B Connect one end of an Ether- net network cable to one of the numbered ports on the front of the Router (see Figure B). Connect the other end to an Ethernet port on a network device, e.g., a PC, print server, hub, or switch. Repeat this step to connect more PCs or other network devices to the Router. C Connect your cable or DSL modem’s Ethernet cable to the Router’s Internet port. If using the DMZ/Internet port, connect a second cable to it, and the other end to the net- work device , e.g., modem or public server. See Figure C. D Power on the cable or DSL modem and the other network device if using one. 2 Connect the Router In Step 2, you will need the setup instructions provided by your Inter- net Service Provider (ISP). If you do not have this information, then con- tact your ISP before proceeding. The instructions from your ISP tell you how to set up your PC for Internet access. Because you are now using the Router to share Internet access among several computers, you will use the setup information to config- ure the Router instead of your PC. A Open your PC’s web browser. Enter http://192.168.1.1 (the Router’s default local IP address) in the web browser’s Address field. Then press the Enter key. B A screen will appear and ask you for a User Name and Pass- word. Page 1 of 4 Cisco RV082 Dual WAN VPN Router Cisco Small Business Routers Secure Remote Access at the Heart of the Small Business Network Highlights ● Dual WAN connections for load balancing and connection redundancy ● Built-in 8-port 10/100 Ethernet switch ● Full IPsec VPN capabilities for up to 100 remote connections ● Advanced stateful packet inspection SPI firewall to help keep your network safe Figure 1. Cisco RV082 Dual WAN VPN Router Product Overview The Cisco® RV082 Dual WAN VPN Router (Figure 1) is an advanced connection-sharing network solution for your small business needs. Like any router, it lets multiple computers in your office share a connection to a public or private network. However, with dual WAN ports, the Cisco RV082 lets you use a second connection as a backup to help you stay connected, or it can be used to access a second provider to increase available bandwidth and balance traffic. The Cisco RV082 also features a built-in 8-port full-duplex 10/100 Ethernet switch to connect eight PCs directly, or you can connect more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. The VPN capability creates encrypted “tunnels” through the Internet, allowing up to 100 remote offices or traveling users to securely connect into your office network from offsite. Users connecting through a VPN tunnel are attached to your company’s network -- with secure access to files, email, and your intranet -- just as if they were in the building. You can also use the VPN capability to allow users on your small office network to securely connect out to a corporate network. The Cisco RV082 can serve as a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and has a powerful stateful packet inspection (SPI) firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks. It can be configured to filter internal users’ access to the Internet and has IP address filtering so you can specify exactly who can connect to your network. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
