1 of 2 AV Automatic Standby Shutdown (Audio Visual for TVs & peripherals) Frequently Asked Questions Q: What appliances can I use this product for? Answer: The device is most suitable for TVs and appliances that have a Standby mode such as hi- fis, power amplifiers, some coffee machines, games consoles, DVD players and some satellite and set top boxes. It may also be used with older desk top computers that DO NOT switch into a low power standby mode. You can plug up to four appliances to be controlled into it. Q. What devices is it not suitable for? Answer: Devices that require continuous power for activities such as timed recording or remote updating eg advanced TVs, DVD recorders, some set top boxes; laptops that require connections to mains power to recharge batteries; computers that go into standby but require power to maintain their data. Q. What does it actually do? Answer: The device will detect when your TV or other appliance with Standby goes into Standby mode, and after a brief period it will remove power from the four controlled sockets, this removing standby power consumption. Q. What is the fifth socket for? Answer: Any appliance can be plugged into this socket as it stays always powered. Most practically an appliance that needs to be continually on would be plugged into this socket such as a DVD recorder or set top box with timed recording. Q. Is there any set up of the device required? Answer: Yes, the simple set-up procedure allows it to do 2 things. i) Learn about the Standby power level of the appliance or appliances that are attached. ii) Learn a particular infrared remote control to restart after it has cut the power. The setup procedure is in the instructions provided. Q. Can I manually re-enable the four sockets it after they have shutdown if I have lost my remote? Answer: Yes you can press the button on the front if you wish to re-enable it manually. Q. Do I need to re-programme the device if I unplug and re-plug in any appliances? Answer: Yes you must re-programme the device every time you plug-in or un-plug anything from the device, even if you un-plug then plug-in the same appliance. Q. Where do I place the sensor? Answer: Place the sensor conveniently near the infrared sensor of the TV or device that you are controlling with the remote control so that the infrared signal can switch both devices at the same time. Use the sticky pad on the sensor to attach to a suitable surface that can’t be damaged by a tacky adhesive.

1 of 2 Radio Controlled Sockets Frequently Asked Questions Q: Does the controller come with a battery included? Answer: Yes an A23 12V battery is preinstalled in the controller but the protective tag will need to be removed before first use. This may involve unscrewing the cover on the back with a small screwdriver. Q: What appliances can I use this socket for? Answer: As it is 13A rated, it can be used with any household device. It is most suitable where access is restricted and for those with restricted movement. Q: Can this be used with a trailing socket (a multi-socket extension lead) to allow many appliances to be turned on or off at the same time? Answer: Yes. Plug the radio socket into the wall socket and then plug the lead of the trailing socket into the radio socket. Ensure the trailing socket is switched on if it has its own power switch. Q: Is the remote controller battery powered? Answer: Yes, it uses battery type A23 12V. The battery is preinstalled but needs the protective tag removed before first use. This may involve unscrewing the cover on the back with a small screwdriver. Q: How do I replace the battery? Answer: Unscrew the cover on the back of the hand controller with a small screwdriver. Replace the battery with an A23 12V battery. Ensure correct polarity for the battery. The protective tag will need to be removed before first use. Q: Does it work in concealed locations and behind walls? Answer: As it uses radio frequency control it will work through walls, though its range will be reduced depending on the material and the thickness of the wall. Q: How is the radio socket powered? Does it have a battery? Answer: The socket uses power directly from the mains and so requires no battery. The controller requires a battery for its power. Q: Can I use more than one of the sockets in the same room, or do they interfere with each other? Answer: There may be some interference between radio-sockets placed into adjacent wall sockets. This may affect the range or operation. Sockets should not be in too close proximity. Try placing the socket in another wall. The same controller may also be used to control the 4-way radio controlled extension lead provided by Energenie. Q: Can a different button be programmed into the socket? Answer: Yes. Press and hold the button on the socket unit for at least 5 seconds unit the light on the unit flashes slowly. A new key can then be programmed in by pressing and holding the required key 1,2,3,4 on the remote control until the light flashes quickly and extinguishes indicating programming complete. Q: Can this product be used with any other remote controls such as my TV remote? Answer: This is not supported. Most TV remotes use infrared control. Q: Is it possible to programme 2 remotes to the one extension lead? Answer: No, the current product has no way of duplicating the hand controller. Each hand controller creates its own unique code in order to prevent interference from further hand controllers. The packaging may indicate that there are twelve keycode memories, however this is not the case currently. Q: Can the socket be used outside? Answer: No, this product is for indoor use only. Q: Do you have any other remote control devices?

1 of 2 4 Gang (socket) Radio Controlled Sockets (Product Code: ENER010) and hand controller (Product Code: ENER002-C) Questions & answers Q. On first use the ENER010 did not automatically go into pairing mode. What do I do? Answer: If the ENER010 has not automatically gone into pairing mode when you first install it please factory reset the unit – see below on page 2 for instructions. Q. How is the best range achieved? Answer: The ENER002-C hand controller transmits control messages in a “donut” pattern out of the reverse, front and sides of the controller, not directly out of the front as would be the case for television IT controllers. To obtain the greatest range hold the hand controller perpendicular to the ENER010 adapters you wish to control (usually holding it vertically, pointing towards your ceiling obtains the best range). Q: How is the ENER010 powered? Answer: The socket uses power directly from the mains and so requires no battery. Q. My hand controller does not seems to be working, the little red lamp/LED on the hand controller does not light up when I press a button. Is the battery dead? Answer: Check whether the battery is making a good contact with the PCB by removing the battery compartment cover and gently pressing down on the top side of the battery housing. If this does not work try to slightly rotate the battery by pushing from the side the part of the battery which is exposed (free of the metal battery holder). Q: How do I replace the battery? Answer: Slide open the battery compartment cover on the back of the hand controller. Remove the battery and replace the battery with a CR2032 3V battery. Ensure correct polarity for the battery, (+ sign facing towards the battery compartment cover). Q: What appliances can I use with the ENER010? Answer: The ENER002 is 13A rated, so it can be used with any household device rated up to 13A 240V. It is most suitable where access to a socket is restricted (by obstructions for example) and for those with restricted movement. Q: Does it work in concealed locations and behind walls? Answer: As it uses radio frequency control it will work through walls, though its range will be reduced depending on the material and the thickness of the wall. Q: Can I use more than one ENER010 in the same room, or do they interfere with each other? Answer: There may be some interference between radio-sockets placed into adjacent wall sockets which may affect the range or operation. Energenie recommends that multiple ENER010 as placed at least 1m apart.
