12825 E. Mirabeau Parkway • Spokane Valley, WA 99216 • 509.624.6600 • 800.441.1309 Technical Bulletin 97-0131-001 16 May 2007 Best Practices for the GoBook® Series Notebook and Tablet PC’s Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide GoBook® Notebook and Tablet users with some recommended practices. These recom- mendations are intended to help maximize the service life of the equipment as well as provide resolution to common issues that may be encountered. General Daily Operations 1. Missing Case Feet, Port Covers and Doors: Inspect for broken, loose or missing parts and fasteners, take corrective action as required. a) Items such as missing case feet can present alignment and/or fit issues when the GoBook® is used in a vehicle environment (docked). A loose fit condition, when installed/used in a Vehicle Dock, can subject the GoBook® to excessive vibration and/ or shock in daily driving conditions. b) Missing port covers and/or doors create contaminant entry points which may lead to system failure. c) Replacement Port Covers, Doors, and Case Feet are available as Field Kits. Contact your Support Representative for order requests. 2. Screen Cleaning: With proper usage and cleaning, the GoBook® display will last the anticipated life of the product in the field (3 to 5 years) without significant degradations in viewability or function. Key to achieving this performance is proper cleaning and use of the approved stylus (if applicable). a) For mild cleaning tasks always use the provided micro-fiber cleaning cloth; tougher contaminates such as oily fingerprints may require light dampening with clean water. Plain water in combination with the cleaning cloth will be effective for most contaminants, and should always be tried before stronger solutions are considered. b) For tougher cleaning tasks encountered with some contaminants a mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and Water (50/50) used in combination with the cleaning cloth will be effective and will not damage the Touch Screen surface. c) Never use paper products such as paper towels or wipes to clean the display surface. Paper products are abrasive in nature and will act much like fine sandpaper when used on the screen surface. This can cause irreversible damage to the screen surface and anti-glare hard coat. d) Both replacement Display Cleaning Clothes and approved Display Cleaning solution are available as Field Kits. Contact your Support Representative for order requests. 3. Screen Overlay Use: For environments with high contaminant potential, use of a screen overlay is recommended. a) A screen overlay provides protection from damages caused by use of foreign objects and/or surface contaminants and maximizes useful life of the screen surface. b) Worn, scratched, or otherwise damaged screen overlays can be replaced. c) With the overlay applied, contaminants on the screen’s surface should be removed by following the same cleaning methods noted for screen cleaning in this document. Box 179 • Spokane, WA 99210 • 509.624.6600 • 800.441.1309 Technical Bulletin GoBook Series Laptop Vehicle Adapter Overheating When Used Continuously Introduction Ongoing testing and investigation, which result in preliminary field reports, have identified potential issues that may affect the performance of the Vehicle Adapter. This Technical Bulletin is intended to provide guidelines for use of the GoBook Vehicle Adapter, ensuring reliable performance. Fault Condition If the GoBook Vehicle Adapter is connected continuously to vehicle power through the vehicle cigarette lighter (or 12V) receptacle, there is the possibility that excessive heat can be generated. It has been determined that temperatures are high enough to result in deformation of the receptacle plug. CAUTION In the case of a bad connection the metal contacts in the cigarette lighter (or 12V) connector can become very hot. It may be possible to burn yourself! Solution The GoBook vehicle adapter is intended to provide a convenient, temporary power source for powering and charging a GoBook series laptop while in transit in a vehicle. The GoBook Vehicle Adapter is not designed for continuous operation. For additional information with regard to permanent installation of the Vehicle Adapter, contact your Itronix Representative. Below are some recommendations for use of the vehicle charger adapter with your GoBook computer: • Charge the GoBook nightly at room temperature using an approved AC Adapter • Charge the GoBook with the vehicle charger adapter as needed • Allow the GoBook to power on and run from the internal battery periodically during the day • Regularly inspect the vehicle adapter for loose or missing parts. Replace or correct as needed or as necessary • When not using the Vehicle Adapter disconnect it from the cigarette lighter (or 12V) receptacle • Use only the correct replacement fuse and ensure that it is assembled correctly into the cigarette lighter adapter. Refer to the illustration below. 97-0095-001 14 March 2003
