NEC Versa FX Battery Packs 1 NEC Versa FX Battery Packs Congratulations on purchasing a new battery pack for your NEC Versa FX! Before installing the battery be sure to read the important information in this document. NEC provides the following battery choices. ! Standard main battery — OP-570-72501 ! Extended Life main battery — OP-570-72502 ! Maximum Life secondary battery — OP-570-72503. The Standard and Extended Life main battery packs are used as the primary power source while you use your computer away from an AC power source. The Maximum Life secondary battery can be added to the system, for use in addition to a standard or extended life battery. See the appropriate sections for information on handling, installing, removing, and charging your NEC battery. Standard Main Battery Extended Life Main Battery Maximum Life Secondary Battery To prevent accidental battery ignition or explosion, adhere to the following: ! Keep the battery away from extreme heat. ! Keep metal objects away from the battery connectors to prevent a short circuit. ! Make sure the battery is properly installed in the battery bay. ! Do not alter or disassemble the battery. ! Read the precautions printed on the battery. Battery Handling Keep the following in mind when removing or replacing a battery. ! Use only the battery designed for your system in your NEC computer. Mixing other manufacturers’ batteries, or using a combination of very old and new batteries can deteriorate battery and equipment performance. ! Clean the battery connectors with a dry cloth when they get dirty. ! Keep the battery out of the reach of children.

The NEC Versa FX provides a high performance, portable solution for your computing needs. Before using your system, be sure to read the important information in this document. New Operating Systems In addition to the Windows 98SE (Second Edition) operating system, some systems now ship with the Windows 2000 operating system. New Processor Configurations In addition to the Pentium III, 400-MHz processor, some systems now ship with a: „ Celeron, 400-MHz processor, or „ Pentium III, 500-MHz processor. Rebooting Your Versa FX System The power management state referred to as Hibernate or Save-To-File (STF) saves the system’s current working environment to the system’s hard drive, then powers down the system to conserve battery power. The HDPREPEZ function creates a file large enough to accommodate the entire memory contents of your system. The STF file is created the first time that you run your system’s setup program. When you reboot your NEC Versa FX running the Windows 2000 operating system, the following warning message appears: Invalid Hibernation Partition….run HDPREPEZ or AMI Save to File Utility This warning message is inaccurate. It is not necessary to run HDPREPEZ or the AMI Save to File utility in the Windows 2000 environment. To disable this warning message, you must disable the Auto Save-To-File parameter in the system’s BIOS utility. Follow these steps to disable the Auto Save-To-File parameter: 1. Reboot your system and press F2 to enter the BIOS utility. 2. Use the arrow keys to highlight and select the Power Management Setup menu. 3. Highlight Auto Save-To-File and use the Page Down or Fn and arrow keys to change the setting to Disabled. 4. Press Esc to exit the Power Management Setup menu. 5. Press F10 to save your settings and exit the BIOS utility.
