������������������ NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card WG511T These setup instructions assume that you will connect to an access point or wireless router. Estimated Completion: 10 minutes. Installation 1. First, install the WG511T software. Insert the NETGEAR CD. If the CD main page does not appear, double click Autorun.exe on the CD. a. Click Install the Software. The Check for Updates window opens. b. If you are connected to the Internet, click Check for Updates. If not, you can choose to install from the CD. c. When the Installation Complete message appears, click Next. 2. Now, insert the wireless PC card. You will be prompted to choose the country you are located in. Select your location from the list. 3. Use the Smart Wizard to set up your wireless PC card. a. Windows 2000 users go to Step b. Windows XP or Vista users can set up the wireless adapter either with the NETGEAR Smart Wizard (recommended) or the Windows configuration utility. • NETGEAR Smart Wizard: Reveals more information about each network and makes it easier to troubleshoot network connection problems. • Windows Configuration Utility: See the Windows documentation or “Using Windows XP and Vista Wireless Configuration Utilities” at: http://documentation.netgear.com/reference/enu/winzerocfg/index.htm b. Click Next to accept the NETGEAR Smart Wizard. You will be prompted to let the Connection Wizard guide you (recommended). c. Click Finish to accept. 4. Connect to a wireless network. a. Select the wireless network from the drop-down list, and the wizard records your choice. b. Hidden networks do not broadcast the Network Name (SSID). These networks are in the drop-down list, but the Network Name (SSID) is blank. c. If the network uses security, then the Smart Wizard detects it. d. Follow the Wizard steps for Security (if used) and for saving a Profile. e. After you have reviewed the settings, click Finish. The Connection Wizard initiates your wireless connection. It could take up to a minute for your wireless connection to be established. Verifying Wireless Connectivity with the Status Bar • The connection status indicator and the WG511T icon show the status of the connection. • For details about the icons in the status bar, the WG511T LEDs, and troubleshooting tips, see the NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card WG511T User Manual on the NETGEAR CD. • The Internet/Router connection indicator shows the progress of your connection. Connection Indicator Description Connected to Internet Wireless Internet connection OK. Connected to Router Wireless connection to router OK but no Internet connection at router. ___.___.___.___ or 169.254..x.x Wireless connection to a router OK but problem with the router. These basic setup instructions assume that you will connect to an access point, and you are not using WEP security. Please refer to the online help and the Reference Manual on your CD for instructions on configuring WEP, Ad-hoc mode, or advanced options. Estimated Completion Time: 5-15 minutes for each notebook PC. WINDOWS XP BASIC INSTALLATION 1. First, install the WG511T software. a. Power on your notebook, let the operating system boot up completely, and log in as needed. b. Insert the Resource CD for the WG511T into your CD- ROM drive. The CD main page shown below will load. c. Click the Install Driver & Utility link. d. Follow the InstallShield Wizard steps, and click Finish when done to restart your computer. 2. NEXT, INSTALL THE WG511T WIRELESS PC CARD. a. Hold the PC Card with the Netgear logo facing up and insert it into a CardBus slot. After a short delay, the Found New Hardware Wizard displays. b. Next you will be prompted to enable the NETGEAR Smart Wireless Settings Utility configuration utility. Click Yes to accept this option. If you choose No, you must read the Windows XP documentation for an explanation of how to use the Windows XP wireless network configuration utility You will also be prompted to choose the country you are located in. Select your location from the list. c. Click Finish to complete the installation. You will see the WG511T system tray icon on the lower right portion of the Windows task bar. 3. NOW, CONFIGURE YOUR WG511T AND SAVE THE PROFILE. a. Click the icon in the Windows system tray to open th WG511T Smart Wireless Settings Utility. The utility opens to the Settings tab page. b. Change the Network Name SSID to match your network. Tip: To view the available wireless networks, use the drop down list or the Networks tab and choose the one you wan c. Click Apply to activate the connection. Tip: Create work and home profiles. Then, activate whichever one you need for your current location. Note: The status bar at the bottom of the utility reports the spee of your connection. 108 Mbps speed is only possible when you wireless network has a 108 Mbps access point such as in the Netgear WGT624 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router. 4. FINALLY, VERIFY WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTIVITY. a. Verify that the status monitor information at the bottom of the utility matches your wireless network b. Check the WG511T LEDs: both blinking alternately mean attempting to connect; both blinking together indicates a good connection (fast blinking means data transmission); off means the card is not plugged in. c. Verify connectivity to the Internet or network resources.
