Warning! If the printer has recently been powered on, some fuser components will be very hot. Handle the fuser with extreme care, holding it only by its handle, which will only be mildly warm to the touch. A warning label clearly indicates the area. If in doubt, switch the printer off and wait at least 10 minutes for the fuser to cool before opening the printer cover. 1. Press the cover release and open the printer's top cover fully. 2. Pull the two blue fuser lock levers (1) towards the front of the printer. 3. Holding the fuser by its handle, lift the fuser out of the printer. If the fuser is still warm, place it on a flat surface which will not be damaged by heat. After letting the fuser cool down, discard it. 5. Push the orange transport lock (1) to the left to release it (SNAP!), then remove the transport lock. 6. Holding the new fuser by the handle, with the fuser pressure release lever (1) on the right, lower the fuser into the priner. 7. Push the two blue retaining levers (1) toward the rear of the printer to lock the fuser in place. 8.Close and latch the top cover. x x x x x 58368302 x 4. Note the positions of the four image drums: Cyan (1), Magenta (2), Yellow (3), Black (4). It is essential that they go back in the correct order! 3. Lift each of the image drum units out of the printer and place them in a safe place 4. Locate the two blue locks (1) and the handle (2). 5. Turn the two locks about 45 degrees counterclockwise to release the belt. 6. Pull up the handle and lift the belt unit out of the printer. 7. Unpack the new belt unit and hold it with the blue handle toward the front of the printer. 8. Place the drive gear at the back of the belt unit in the gear at the left rear corner of the printer, and lower the belt unit into the printer. Insert the duplexer through the hinged door in the back of the printer. 4. Push firmly on the duplexer to be sure it is firmly seated in the printer. 5. Turn on the printer. Verify the Installation Print the Menu Map 1. Press + one or more times until INFORMATION MENU appears on the display. 2. Press ENTER twice. The MenuMap prints. 3. Look at the top of the first page. “DUPLEX installed” should appear. If it doesn’t Repeat the “Installation” steps until it does. Make Default (Printer Menu) To always use duplex printing, go into the printer menu. Change the default setting for DUPLEX to ON. 1. Press + until you see PRINT MENU on the display. 2. Press ENTER. 3. Press + until you see DUPLEX on the display. 4. Press ENTER. 5. Press + to change the setting from OFF to ON. 6. Press ENTER to engage the setting. 7. Press ON-LINE to save the setting and exit the menu. Activate in the Driver Windows® PCL Driver C5400, C5400n 1. Click Start → Settings → Printers [Printers and Faxes for XP]. The Printers (Printers and Faxes) dialog box opens. 2. Right click the PCL printer icon. Click Properties. 3. Click the Device Option(s) tab. 4. Click Duplex Option Unit. 5. Click OK. Close the Printers (Printers and Faxes) dialog box. Windows Postscript Emulation Driver C5400n 1. Click Start → Settings → Printers [Printers and Faxes for XP]. Macintosh® OS 8.x and 9.x C5400n 1. Activate Chooser from the Apple menu. 2. Select LaserWriter 8. 3. Click Printer → Setup. 4. Click Configure. 5. Change the Duplex Unit setting to Installed. 6. Click OK twice. 7. Close Chooser. Macintosh OS X to X.1 C5400n No activation is required. Macintosh OS X.2 C5400n 1. Activate Print Center from Local Hard Drive → Applications → Utilities → Print Center. 2. Highlight the printer name. Select from the menu Printers → Show Info. 3. Click the box next to Duplex. 4. Click Apply Changes. Exit to the desktop. Make Default (Macintosh) OS Classic To always use duplex printing: 1. Access the printer driver via an application (File → Print). 2. Select Layout in the drop down menu at the left. 3. Click the box to enable Print on Both Sides. 4. Select the desired binding position. Make any other desired adjustments. 5. Click Save Settings. Remove the black image drum (with the toner cartridge installed). 2. Place the assembly into a light-safe bag. The light shield bags are in the bag with the documents. 3. Fold the light shield bag over once. 4. Reinstall into the printer. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for each image drum and toner assembly. Note: Be sure all image drums and toner cartridges are enclosed in the bags before you close the printer. Packing Materials Repack the printer as shown. Important: Proper repacking is critical to the safe return of this product. Please follow indications on foam for proper placement! Note: Illustrations and components are representative only. Note the location of the pins (1), connector (2) and tray opening (3). 5. Lower the printer onto the auxiliary tray, aligning the printer with the tray and lowering the holes/plug in the bottom of the printer onto the pins/connector on the tray. 6. Reattach the interface cable. 7. Plug in the power cord and turn on the printer. 8. Print out the Menu Map. a. Press + one or more times until INFORMATION MENU appears on the display. b. Press ENTER twice. The MenuMap prints. 9. Look for TRAY2 in the information at the top of the first page of the MenuMap and under the MEDIA MENU listing. If it isn’t there, check to be sure that the connection between the printer and Tray 2 is secure, then reprint and recheck the MenuMap. 10. Check the MEDIA MENU settings shown on the MenuMap and make any needed changes for • TRAY2 PAPERSIZE • TRAY2 MEDIATYPE • TRAY2 MEDIAWEIGHT to match the print media you will normally use in Tray 2. (If you need help with this, see “How to Make Changes in the Menus” in your on-line User’s Guide, or refer to “Changing Default Media Weight Settings” in your Handy Reference Guide.) Load Paper 1. Pull out the tray. 2. Fan the paper 3. Position the paper guides in the tray. 4. Load paper (up to 530 sheets, 20-lb. US Bond), keeping the stack below the full line (1). 5.
