® Handheld Computer Supplementary Instructions This Supplementary Instructions manual explains how to get started with a wireless LAN and point out cases where the operation of the computer will differ from that in the Operating Instructions. Wireless LAN Antenna Wireless LAN communications are done via an antenna. Do not shield this antenna with the hand, etc. This will negatively effect the performance of your wireless LAN commu- nications. If the antenna is positioned less than 2 inches (5cm) from the user, it is recommended that user exposure time be limited. 3 First-time Operation After finishing the first-time operation, install the driver for Wireless LAN using the following procedure. Install the driver for Wireless LAN (1)When the computer recognizes the internal Wireless LAN card, a screen will be displayed designating the driver name. Tap to close this screen. (2)Tap [Start]-[Run] in order, then input “ffrestore.exe r”, and then tap [OK]. The driver for Wireless LAN will be copied from the Flash memory to the [Options] folder in [My Computer]. (3)When [Complete] is displayed, press . (4)Install the driver for Wireless LAN. 1) Double-tap [My Computer], and then double-tap the [Options] folder. 2) Double-tap [Wireless LAN]. 3) A screen will be displayed specifying the install destination folder. Tap [OK]. 4) When [Setup Complete] is displayed, tap [OK]. 5) Push the reset switch using the stylus. When the computer is started up and the internal Wireless LAN card is correctly recognized, the [Symbol Status] screen will be displayed. When installation is complete, [Wireless LAN] will be automatically deleted from [My Com- puter]. (5)Setting for Wireless LAN. Input the necessary information on the [Symbol Status] screen. (ESSID and Operating Mode for the [Mode] tab, IP address for the [IP Config] tab, etc.) (6)Tap [OK]. (7)Press the reset switch using the stylus. NOTE The size of the [Symbol Status] screen cannot be changed. If part of this screen extends off of the screen, drag the title bar to reposi- tion the window. Dealing with Problems When reinstalling the driver for Wireless LAN, “File Write Error” is displayed. Check if the computer memory is full. If it is full, delete unnecessary files. Check if the [Options] folder in [My Computer] has been deleted. If it has been deleted, recreate the [Options] folder in [My Computer] as follows: (1)Double tap [My Computer], tap [File], and then tap [New Folder]. This Supplementary Instructions explains how to get started with a barcode scanner and point out cases where the operation of the computer will differ from that in the Operating Instruc- tions. Scanning Window Do not look directly into the scanning window. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LASER LIGHT. Do not scan barcodes with parameter settings. Erroneous settings may be set in the scan- ner, necessitating repair work. Be sure to read “Precautions” in the Handheld Computer Operating Instructions. Precautions First-time Operation Names and Functions of Parts ® Handheld Computer Supplementary Instructions CF-P1 with Barcode Scanner Supplementary Instructions 2 Setting for Barcode Scanner (1)Start the Barcode scanner settings. Tap -[Settings]-[System] tab - [Barcode Scanner] (2)If necessary, tap the tab and adjust the settings. To display a hidden tab, tap the on the right edge of the tab. [Code Type] [Code Type Options] [Buttons] [Laser] [Decode Format] [BEEP] [Keyboard Emulation] [Version] Select valid code type(s). Items showing check marks are valid items. To add CheckDigit codes, tap [Properties...]. To scan barcodes by pressing the trigger on either side of the computer, set [Trigger] to [Enable]. When triggers are not used for scanning, select one of the following: F1 button, F2 button, F3 button, or F4 button. The default setting is [No Entry]. In [The irradiation time of the laser], set the length of time before laser irradiation stops in the event that the barcode scan is unsuccessful. [Prefix/Suffix Data format] and [Code ID Data format] settings Set whether to emit a “beep” sound when the barcode scan is successful. Determines whether or not scanned barcode data is targeted for key emulation. View the Barcode Scanner information To return settings for all items to their default settings, tap [Default]. (3)Tap [ok]. Close the [Barcode Scanner] settings screen when scanning a barcode. When performing a full reset, CF-P1 restarts automatically to enable the driver for the Barcode Scanner after completing the setup procedure ( “First-time Operation” in the Handheld Computer Operating Instructions). NOTE It’s impossible to read a barcode during voice calls or data communications via a GSM/GPRS modem. In these cases, scan a barcode after voice calls or data com- munications are completed (GSM/GPRS model only). CAUTION 3 ENGLISH Scanning Barcodes 1 Aim the scanner at the barcode. 2 Press one of the trigger buttons on either side of the computer. If the barcode scan application software has been set for use with F1, F2, F3, or F4 buttons (using - [Settings] - [Sys- tem] tab - [Barcode Scanner] - [Buttons]), press the button assigned for this function ( “Program Buttons” in the Handheld Computer Operating Instructions). The red scan beam for reading is emitted from the scanning window. Make sure the red scan beam covers the entire barcode. To Correctly Read a Barcode with This Computer, Observe the Following. The scanning angle is a very important factor. The scanner may be unable to correctly read a barcode if it is directly perpendicular to the barcode and the red scan beam is reflected back into the scanner. Perform reading at the angle indicated in the figure. Set at a 15° angle from the perpendicular position. Perform scanning so that the red scan beam for reading intersects the barcode itself (in- cluding at least 12.7 mm {1/2"} beyond each edge of the barcode). Hold the scanner farther away when reading a larger barcode, and closer in when reading a smaller barcode or a thinner barcode. Right Wrong Right Wrong It is impossible to scan a barcode for 5 or 6 seconds after turning on the computer because the barcode scanner is being initialized. NOTE Press trigger button.
