Welcome to Quintum’s Tenor®Notes for August, 2004 Quintum Now Supports SIP and H.323 on all Tenors! The newest generation of Tenors is now able to support both H.323 and SIP protocols. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) has been added to the latest software code for the Tenor MultiPath Switch products, thus allowing the Tenor products to recognize inbound H.323 and SIP calls, and process them on a call by call basis. Users will also able to configure the call signaling preferences for outbound calls which will be handled based on the preferred signaling. Quintum has tested and confirmed that Tenors are interoperable with SIP phones, VoIP gateways, terminal adaptors and SIP softphone products, as well as SIP proxies from many well known manufacturers. First generation models of Tenors will be software upgradeable to SIP, but users will need to select either H.323 or SIP. Please check our Technical Note for any additional limitations that may affect the earlier models of Tenors. For complete information on the SIP release, please download our Technical Note, which can be found at: http://partners.quintum.com/files/prod_lit/SIP_Introduction_Aug04_Final1.pdf Quintum’s Next Generation of Tenors. You’ve heard several announcements from Quintum on our newest generation of Tenors and their capabilities. The Next Generation of Tenors includes the new Tenor AS, which offers a two or four port model, with new station side (all FXS ports) VoIP gateway configurations to support CPE to VoIP gatewaying applications such as remote extension. The new Tenor AX offers a choice of 8, 16 or 24 ports of simultaneous VoIP calls, and an enterprise configuration for PSTN back up and 911 support. The Tenor DX provides up to 4 T1/E1/PRI spans. Here are the common features for the new generation: Tenors now support both H.323 and SIP protocols; Tenors can be configured for either Gateway or MultiPath functionality, allowing for all FXS, all FXO or a combination of port configurations; Support for the new Tenor Monitor VoIP network monitoring tool; Configuration Manager software to easily set up your Tenor network; Codec Auto-Negotiation; Universal Dial Plan; IVR/RADIUS AAA Compliance. Of course, Tenors still have our patented SelectNet™ Technology, as well as PacketSaver™ and NATAccess™ Technologies. Now the New Gen of Tenors are even more adaptable and functional than ever! Check them all out on our website at: http://www.quintum.com/main/tenor_series.html New Case Study on Quintum's Website: Techland Group, Quintum’s distributor in the UK, implemented a VoIP network for Christie & Co., the leading business agent in the UK, operating both nationally and internationally, specializing in the hotel, licensed, leisure, care and retail commercial property markets. The challenge was to tie together its varied telephony infrastructure, maximize the excess bandwidth it had, and free it from its dependence on PBX switch vendors and service providers. Two key requirements that Quintum was able to uniquely support were; 1) minimize the impact on the existing telephony infrastructure and users and 2) assure high voice quality all the time – independent of what might occur on the IP network. Christies successfully deployed Quintum Tenors with its unique MultiPath configuration that allowed that VoIP solution to be deployed transparently to the existing voice network and its users. The Tenor deployment also utilized Quintum’s SelectNet™ feature which assures the QoS of their voice calls, including the calls in progress, by dropping back to the PSTN in real time if there is any problem on the IP network. ROI was achieved in only a few months. In fact, the deployment was so transparent that neither the Board members nor the employees were aware that they were using VoIP! Welcome to Quintum’s Tenor®Notes for July, 2004 • Quintum Announces the New Tenor AX! Quintum is officially announcing the arrival of our newest analog Tenor series of products. The new Tenor AX Series provides 8, 16, up to 24 simultaneous VoIP calls to allow enterprises with an analog infrastructure an effective way to capitalize on the power of VoIP. This new, more scalable Tenor is designed to support increased call volumes. Included with the new AX are Quintum’s new Configuration Manager and Tenor Monitor software to ease network management both at the headquarters and at remote locations. As with the other Tenors, the AX offers the complete set of unique features including SelectNet QoS switching, integrated call routing between circuit and VoIP ports, PacketSaver VoIP multiplexing for up to an additional 57% reduction in bandwidth usage and an integrated IVR. The AX offers the following configurations. • New Call Center Case Study on Quintum's Website: Chance Telecom implemented a VoIP network in South America for two of the largest telemarketing companies in the region. Both organizations needed to reduce costs from calls between North and South America. Chance utilized a Tenor CMS in their POP, which provided scalability, and a series of digital Tenors at the call center locations. PacketSaver™ was also implemented to substantially improve the bandwidth utilization for VoIP calls between South America and the US. The Tenor CMS solution can support up to 32 T1/E1/PRI trunks and allows the customers to expand their operations as needed, with very short notice to the service provider, Chance Telecom. The solution also allowed them to create individual account codes to simplify billing across multiple customers and to target specific campaigns for short durations. This allowed them to decrease their work force at non- peak times, improve operator efficiency and provide more flexible service offerings. Read the case study at: http://partners.quintum.com/files/prod_lit/Chance-CallCenter_casestudy.pdf • Check out the newest OffNet Offers on our website: We continue to add more service providers who have signed up with OffNet Offers for our enterprise customers. Check them out to see how you can save money on your long distance and international phone calls. Because it delivers a complete solution in a single device - and because it offers such easy, scalable implementation and management - the TenorS line significantly reduces the total lifecycle cost of VoIP deployment, while optimizing service reliability. Tenor S also offers PSTN connectivity and legacy equipment integration for both analog and modem based devices. The Tenor VoIP MultiPath Switch Offers a Robust VoIP Switching Solution For a Variety of Applications Quintum's Tenor switching/gateway solutions are deployed worldwide to provide highly reliable, easy-to-implement VoIP connectivity in a full range of enterprise and service provider environments. These highly adaptable solutions work with traditional PBXs, legacy analog equipment, IP PBXs and IP phones, IVR and ACD systems, RADIUS servers, and other critical components of end-to-end H.323- and SIP-based communications environments. They are thus ideal for a wide variety of applications including interoffice trunking, integration of IP PBXs with legacy infrastructure, service provider VoIP trunking, call centers, calling card services, call shops and VoIP termination. The Quintum® Tenor® AX Series gives small to medium sized businesses, SOHOs and branch offices with analog voice infrastructures an easy, cost-effective way to capitalize on the power of Voice over IP (VoIP). Tenor offers a complete survivable branch office solution providing support for integrating analog endpoints and the PSTN, while offering back- up call processing support for all SIP and analog calls. Both versions of Tenor include the features that made Quintum the VoIP market value leader • MultiPath architecture for easy integration with existing voice and data infrastructure, meaning little or no re-programming of the PBX, or upgrades are required and no need for special dialing plans. • Transparent MultiPath Call Routing to intelligently route calls between the PBX, the PSTN, and the IP network to achieve the best combination of cost and quality. The Tenor can also route calls over IP to reduce costs, and then transparently "hop off" to the PSTN, to reach off-net locations. • Auto Provisioning interface allows the Tenor solution to be deployed worldwide, and configured automatically by acquiring the configuration information from a central server, upon installation. The same auto-provisioning capability allows the Tenor to be configured from a VoIP application, thus supporting a single user interface between the VoIP application and the Tenor configuration. • Unified Communications Proxy (UCP) provides 'Any to Any' connectivity: SIP - SIP, TDM - TDM and SIP - TDM, for easy integration with any network. • Universal Dial Plan that provides a programmable dial plan so Tenor can be integrated into any network environment. • PacketSaver™ Technology multiplexing to reduce bandwidth consumption by up to 57% by combining voice packets from multiple calls into a single packet. • NATAccess™to allow Tenor to operate behind NAT firewalls to translate internal IP addresses into public addresses when a VoIP call is established with an outside party. • Remote Management for anywhere, anytime remote management even behind NAT firewalls with Quintum's Remote Management Session Server. and branch offices * Available for an additional cost
