Instrucciones de Operación Detector de Voltaje AC de Doble Rango Sin Contacto 40120N Operating Instructions 40120N Dual Range Non-Contact AC Voltage Detector Introduction The Southwire 40120N detects AC voltage from 24V to 1000V in two ranges. A LED flashlight is built-in for added convenience. With proper use, it will provide many years of reliable service. International Safety Symbols Potential danger. Indicates the user must refer to the manual for important safety information Indicates hazardous voltages may be present Equipment is protected by double or reinforced insulation WARNINGS General Specifications Detection voltage range Frequency range Batteries Operating temperature Storage temperature Humidity Altitude Pollution Degree Safety Compliance 100V AC to 1000V AC, 24V AC to 1000V AC 50/60Hz Two AAA 1.5V batteries 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C) 14°F to 140°F (–10°C to 60°C) 80% max. 7000ft (2000m) 2 CAT IV-1000V Maintenance 1. KEEP THE TESTER DRY. If it gets wet, wipe it off. 2. USE AND STORE THE TESTER IN NORMAL TEMPERATURES. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of the electronic parts and distort or melt plastic parts. 3. HANDLE THE TESTER GENTLY AND CAREFULLY. Dropping it can damage the electronic parts or the case. 4. KEEP THE TESTER CLEAN. Wipe the case occasionally with a damp cloth. DO NOT use chemicals, cleaning solvents, or detergents. 5. USE ONLY FRESH BATTERIES OF THE RECOMMENDED SIZE AND TYPE. Remove old or weak batteries so they do not leak and damage the unit. Brief Description Typical Applications Category Rating Three phase circuits and single phase lighting circuits in commercial buildings - Equipment in fixed installations such as 3-phase motors, switchgear and distribution panels - Lighting circuits in commercial buildings - Feeder lines in industrial plants - Any device or branch circuit that is close to a CAT III source - Primary distribution panels - Overhead or underground lines to detached buildings - Incoming service entrance from utility - Outdoor pumps CAT III CAT IV Safety Category Ratings Connection point to utility power and outdoor conductors Detector Description 1. Flashlight 2. Flashlight power button 3. Battery cover & compartment 4. 24V button 5. Detector tip Operation Checking for live AC voltage (100V to 1000V/24V to 1000V) 1. Prior to use, test on a known live circuit to verify tester is functioning. Place the tip of the sensor near an AC voltage source. If the tester detects voltage within the defined detection range, the red light will turn on with a steady glow and the beeper will produce a continuous tone. 4. Carefully slide the battery cover onto the tester making sure the cover is aligned with the slots on the tester body. Make sure the battery cover is completely closed. 3. Replace the batteries (observe polarity). Use two AAA 1.5V batteries. 5. Verify operation by using the tester on a known live AC voltage. Use other methods to verify live voltage, if there is any uncertainty. • Do not use if the tester appears damaged or if it is not operating properly. If in doubt, replace the tester. • Do not use on voltages that are higher than as marked on the tester. • Use caution with voltages above 30 volts AC as a shock hazard may exist. • Comply with local and national safety requirements - particularly with regard to arc-flash potential. • Use approved personal protective equipment when working on live circuits. 2. To detect AC voltage below 100V, press and hold the button. The tester will detect AC voltage from 24V to 1000V when the button is pressed. When the button released, the detection range will return to 100V to 1000V. 3. Flashlight - Press and hold the button with the symbol to turn on the flashlight. Release the button to turn off the flashlight. NOTES: • The tester is always active and ready to use, providing the batteries are installed and in good condition. • The detector is designed for high sensitivity.
