APPLICATION APPLICATION NNoottee TTEELLEECCO OM M SSO OLLUUTTIIO ONNSS FFO ORR TTHHEE 2211SSTT CCEENNTTUURRYY EWP EWP Enhanced Weather Protection March 3, 2004 Standard practice for manufacturing emergency phones is to provide them with standard uncoated circuit boards (like the ones in your PC). A few man- ufacturers, including Viking, spray the circuit boards with a water resistant material such as acrylic conformed coating to protect them. Some emergency phone applications demand extra protection. Phones that are mounted outside exposed to the elements in salty air near the ocean, in high humidity, exposed to a corrosive atmosphere or vehicle exhaust all need an extra measure of weather and corrosion resistance. Our EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) phones are designed with total reliability in mind. First, we use weather-sealed push button switches, trim pots and DIP switches so FFeeaattuurreess • Urethane potting for: - Maintaining flexibilty at low temperatures - Excellent electrical insulation - Low stress on sensative componenants - Unaffected by moisture at high temperatures - Thermal cycling ability - Hydrolytic stability - No shrinkage • Sealed switch, LED, trim pots, push button and microphone connections • All wires are hand soldered • Mylar speaker with special weather-proof boot • Field adjustable trim pots and DIP switches • Closed cell foam gasketing to prevent water penetration • Weatherproof connectors filled with anti-corosive sealing gel PPhhoonnee......771155..338866..88886611 Enhanced Weather Protection Now Available on Selected Viking Products you can adjust microphone and speaker volumes and set program- ming features right at the installation site. Then, we hand solder all wires to eliminate the kind of corrosion that can occur in ordinary electrical connectors. We also hand seal the connections at the push button switch, microphone, and "Call Connected" LED using a special non-corrosive silicone sealant. We use a special microphone boot that acts as a shield against water penetration. A mylar speaker is used with rubber mounting gasket. Closed cell foam gasketing is used behind front panels to prevent water penetration. Finally we "Pot" the entire board in a clear flexible urethane encapsulating material leaving the weather sealed field- adjustable trim pots and DIP switches accessible. Our flexible polyurethane sealant allows the circuit board and it’s components to expand and contract, while maintaining weather resistance. To protect tip and ring connections, we include connectors filled with anti-corrosive sealing gel. APPLICATION APPLICATION NNoottee TTEELLEECCO OM M SSO OLLUUTTIIO ONNSS FFO ORR TTHHEE 2211SSTT CCEENNTTUURRYY Note: This document must be used in combina- tion with the 1600A Series Technical Practice (Fax Back Document 215). The 1600A Series emergency telephones have the capability to communicate directly with several central station receiver formats. In this mode, the emergency phone will automatically relay vital information to compatible equipment at central alarm moni- toring stations. PPrrooggrraam mm miinngg 1600A Series 1600A Series Central Station Monitoring August 28, 2001 Using the 1600A Series Phones with Central Station Equipment Once the receiver has issued the proper acknowledgement tone, the “CALL CONNECTED” indicator on the front of the emergency phone will light, and the 1600A phone will then switch to two-way voice or call a voice line. The 1600A Series emergency phone may NOT be compatible with certain Central Station Monitoring equipment. If you experience problems, contact Product Support at 715-386-8666. ! The standard 1600A emergency phone is factory programmed to communicate using the “Ademco Contact I.D.”, “Ademco High Speed”, “DTMF 4+1 Express”, or the “DTMF 4+2 Express” formats. All formats use the programming memory loca- tion #20 to store the account code and alarm details. 1. Accessing the Programming Mode Before programming, you must access the programming mode (see 1600A Technical Practice, section A). 2. Enabling/Disabling Central Station Mode The 1600A Series emergency phone can be placed in the “Central Station Mode” by entering a central station phone number in position #05 while programming. To cancel the “Central Station Mode,” clear position #05 by entering #05 (see 1600A Technical Practice, section F). 3. Ring Delay When the 1600A Series emergency phone is in the “Central Station Mode”, it is best to have the ring delay set to a minimum of three. Some receivers send a long tone after answering the line that sounds like a ring back, and if the 1600A is set to a ring delay of two, the phone will disconnect (see 1600A Technical Practice, section F). 4. Speed Dial Numbers The 1600A Series phone can be programmed to dial a central station receiver only, or dial up to 5 voice numbers first, and if no answer, then dial the central station receiver. When calling the first numbers (memory positions #00- #04, see 1600A Technical Practice, section C), the phone stays in “two-way talk mode” allowing two-way conver- sation. When calling the Central Station number (memory position #05), the phone is in a “listen only mode” in order to interpret the hand shake signal of the receiver. A second central station number position has been provided in location #06 that is used when the central station receiver does not have a talk over mode. If a number is placed in position #05 and position #06 is cleared, the operation is as follows: the E-1600A will call the central station monitor receiver first. After the receiver sends a kiss-off, the E-1600A lights the “Call Connected” LED and goes into two-way talk mode. A.
