The K-2000- DVA has eight dry contact inputs, each of which can dial up to eight 32-digit phone numbers and play a message up to 1 minute in length specific to that input. Messages can be recorded locally or remotely with a total mes- sage time for all 8 inputs of eight minutes. When configured as an alarm dialer, the K-2000-DVA has call progress detection capability with normal and fast busy, call pickup, CPC and ring- no-answer detection. The K-2000-DVA can also be set up as a store caster (no dialing), for on-site promotional or assistance announcements. Programming can be done with a touch tone phone or using a PC with a serial port con- nection and free software available on the Viking website: http://www.vikingelectron- ics.com. Alarm Input: One of eight inputs for alarm sensors which may be connected to the K-2000-DVA. Each input may be configured as nor- mally open, normally closed, or disabled. In addition, each input may be configured to require a momentary or continuous closure. Alarm Message: One of eight user-recorded announcements associated with a corresponding alarm input. Each message may be up to one minute in length. Alarm State: An alarm input reaches this state when there has been a closure across the input (if normally open) or an open (if normal- ly closed) for a minimum amount of time. If the Qualifier Timer is set to zero, this minimum time is about 80ms. Otherwise the time to reach the alarm state is the value the Qualifier Timer has been set to (ranging from 1 second to 18 hours). Call Progress Detection: This feature, used in the Alarm Dialer Mode, enables the K-2000-DVA to determine when the number it is calling has answered so that it can start playing the alarm message. Forced Play Timer: The forced play timer is operational when the Call Progress Detection has been disabled. Instead of starting the alarm message when the call is picked up, the K-2000-DVA waits a set period of time (from 1 -99 seconds) after the number is dialed before it starts playing the message. This feature would ordinarily only be used when for some reason reliable call progress detection is not possible; for example: if one or more of the lines being called are very noisy. Hookswitch Flash Before Dialing: In some alarm dialing applications, it is necessary for the K-2000-DVA to provide a 500 ms hook- switch flash before dialing any programmed phone number. This feature can be enabled or disabled on a global basis (applies to all inputs and all dial numbers). Lap Counter: The Lap Counter is a programmable counter that sets how many times the K-2000-DVA will cycle through its list of up to 8 numbers for a given input before it gives up and stops the alarm dialing procedure. The Lap Counter is set individually for each input and can be from 1 - 99. Volume Control Message Repeat Count: In the Alarm Dialer Mode, this is the number of times the alarm message is repeated per call. In the Storecaster Mode this is the number of times the message is repeated per closure. In the Storecaster Mode, if the closure is still in effect when the Message Repeat Count has been met, the K-2000-DVA will reset the message repeat counter and play the message until the Message Repeat Counter has been met again. The Message Repeat Count is set individually for each input and can be from 1-99. Pager Number: A phone number of up to 32 digits long which can be used to dial numeric pagers (no alarm message is played). Priority: Lower number inputs have higher priority. Qualifier Timer: This is a user-programmable timer that can be set from 1 second to 18 hours and specifies the amount of time that a closure must stay in effect before the K-2000-DVA enters the alarm state. The default value of the Qualifier Timer is 0, which is OFF. Remote Access Code: A six-digit code required for remotely accessing the K-2000-DVA in order to poll the alarm inputs for those that have entered the alarm state and have not been reset. Reset State: An alarm is reset if the called party or the remotely accessing user dials a touch-tone “9” during the alarm message. The alarm input resumes normal operation after the Resume Timer expires. Ring Delay: This is the number of rings the K-2000-DVA waits before answering an inbound call. The Ring Delay must be set from 0-9, with 0 specifying that incoming calls are not to be answered. Ringback Limit: This is the number of times the K-2000-DVA will allow the phone to ring when trying to reach a number on its phone number list before giving up and going on to the next number. Resume Timer: This is a user-programmable timer that can be set from 1 second to 18 hours and specifies the amount of time after an alarm input is reset before it resumes normal operation and begins looking for alarms again. See Operation for a discussion of how the Resume timer determines when an alarm input leaves the reset state. The default value of the Resume Timer is zero, which is OFF. Security Code: A six-digit code required for entering programming remotely. Status LED: The Status LED provides a visual indication of operation. When the K-2000-DVA is inactive the LED is ON. In local, remote, or PC programming the LED is OFF. In the alarm dialer mode, the LED is FLASHING whenever the K-2000-DVA is processing an alarm. In the store caster mode, the LED is FLASHING while the message is being played. Storecaster Mode: In this mode the K-2000-DVA plays messages only (no dialing). IInnssttaallllaattiioonn A. Alarm Dialer * IMPORTANT: The computer must have K-2000-DVA(SM) PC programming software installed. Visit www.vikingelectronics.com to download free K- 2000-DVA(SM) programming software. The software is compatible with any Windows based PC, using Windows 98 or higher. The software allows pro- gramming of all K-2000-DVA parameters using the computer (except the recorded messages for inputs). Viking Electronics will NOT support computer software or hardware problems. If you experience these problems, research your hardware/software instruction manuals or contact the manufacturer’s technical support department. ** Note: To increase surge protection, fasten a wire from the screw terminal to Earth Ground (grounding rod, water pipe, etc.) IMPORTANT: Electronic devices are susceptible to lightning and power station electrical surges from both the AC outlet and the telephone line. It is rec- ommended that a surge protector be installed to protect against such surges. Contact Panamax at (800) 472-5555 or Electronic Specialists Inc. at (800) 225-4876. ! 3

Configuring the RC-2A/RC-3 for use with the K-2000-DVA 1. The RC-2A or RC-3 security or access code must be enabled. 2. Security and/or access code(s) for RC-2A or RC-3 must differ from those of the K-2000-DVA. 3. The RC-2A or RC-3 should be set for maximum ring delay (15 rings for RC-2A, 31 rings for RC-3). C. Configuring the K-2000-DVA for use with the RC-2A or RC-3 1. The security and access codes for the K-2000-DVA must differ from those of the RC-2A or RC-3. 2. The K-2000-DVA must be set to answer in fewer rings than the RC-2A/RC-3. D. Accessing the K-2000-DVA and RC-2A/RC-3 a. While the K-2000-DVA is in “Reporting Mode” 1. Call into the K-2000-DVA and RC-2A/RC-3 combination. 2. When the K-2000-DVA answers, enter Q + the 6 digit access code for the K-2000-DVA. Two beeps will be heard from the K-2000-DVA and the RC-2A/RC-3 will return either silence or an error tone respectively. These error tones can be ignored. The K-2000-DVA may now be operated normally. b. While the K-2000-DVA is in “Polling Mode” If the K-2000-DVA is in “Polling Mode”, the K-2000-DVA may be operated normally. 2. Accessing the RC-2A or RC-3 While online with the K-2000-DVA, enter Q + the 3 or 6 digit access code for the RC-2A or RC-3 respectively. The RC-2A/RC-3 may now be operated normally. Note: The “force hang-up” command will not automatically release the line, the user must hang-up. Reporting Mode - The mode of operation in which the K-2000-DVA has been triggered to dial out, for purposes of making contact with a party. Polling Mode - The mode of operation in which a calling party has called into the K-2000-DVA for purposes of retrieving or clearing stored messages. Important Potential Conflicts - The RC-3 may be programmed while on-line with the K-2000-DVA. However, due to potential Touch Tone conflicts, programming of the K-2000-DVA should NOT be attempted while on-line with RC-2A or RC-3. Programming of the K-2000-DVA via the RS-232 port is unaffected by this conflict and is the preferred method of programming. Programming/Operation Fax Back Doc # 830 A. The requirement of “Q” plus the access code is disabled by setting dip switch 2 to OFF. ACCESS TIMER: The function of the Access Timer is to set the RC-3 back to the Secure State if Relay Commands are no longer being entered. The access timer always applies when using the RC-3 in the Ring Trip Connection (access code enabled or disabled) and the Parallel Connection but only when Access Code is enabled (dip switch 2 ON). The timer has a default value of 20 seconds and counts down in the background when the RC-3 is in the Relay Control State. Every time a touch tone is entered, the Access Timer is reloaded, so it is possible to stay in the Relay Control State as long as touch tones are being entered. If the Access Timer elapses, it gives three beeps and sets the unit back to the Secure State. To return to the Relay Control State, it is necessary to reenter “Q” plus the Access Code. The minimum programmable time for the Access Timer is 3 seconds. E-30 MODE: The E-30 Mode is enabled by setting dip switch 4 to ON. This mode is used when using one or more Viking E-30 or E-30-EWP’s (handsfree speakerphone with dialer) on the same line with the RC-3. This mode changes the default relay commands in the RC-3 to commands that do not conflict with the features or programming of the E-30 speakerphones. When set to the E-30 mode, custom relay commands can not be programmed (error beeps are provided). The E-30 mode is compatible with the relay bank number programming, so it is possible to have three RC-3’s and nine E-30’s on the same line for nine entry phones and nine door or gate control relays. INTERDIGIT TIMER: This timer operates in the Relay Control or Unsecure State and can be thought of as a “start over” timer. Its purpose is to allow the user to go back and start a Relay Command over if an error was made. In the normal entry of Relay Commands, as long as the time between touch tones does not reach three seconds, the Interdigit Timer does nothing. However, if a mistake is made, the user can just wait three seconds, hear a single beep and start the Relay Command entry over. The Interdigit Timer only applies when the RC-3 is programmed with relay commands that are two or three digits in length. When programmed for single digit commands, there are no “incomplete” commands, so the sin- gle beep is not provided. LOOP DETECTION: The RC-3 includes hardware to provide loop detection. When a phone is connected to the OUT terminals of the RC-3, this tells the unit when a phone is in use, making it possible to both start and terminate the Relay Control State (if programmed). In the Normal Mode, default relay commands exist but custom relay and global commands of one, two or three digits in length can be programmed. When dip switch 2 is set to on, “Q” plus a one to six digit access code must be dialed before relay commands can be entered. PARALLEL CONNECTION: The Parallel Connection allows the RC-3 to be “parallel” connected to a phone line (or talk path) and detect touch tones to control relays, when the device using the line is not connected to the “Output” side of the RC-3. Ideally, the phone line or talk path is passed through the RC-3 from “In” to “Out”, so the RC-3 can use it’s Loop Detection to determine when the line is in use or goes back to idle. The Parallel Connection allows the RC-3 to function properly in the cases when it is not possible to wire all devices that share the line through the “In” and “Out” of the RC-3. To use the Parallel Connection, tap off the phone line or talk path and connect it to the “In” side of the RC-3 and set the Talk Battery switch to OFF. PROGRAMMING TIMER: The Programming Timer is a 20-second timer that runs when remote programming is entered by calling in to the RC- 3. Every time a touch tone is entered, the timer is reloaded, so it is possible to stay in programming as long as at least one touch tone is entered every twenty seconds. If the timer elapses, the RC-3 gives three beeps and hangs up. RELAY COMMANDS: These are user-programmable touch tone commands that tell the RC-3 to turn the relays on or off, start a timed closure, or indicate status. The default values for the Relay Commands are listed in the Programming section. RELAY CONTROL STATE: The RC-3 is in the Relay Control State when access code is enabled (dip switch 2 ON) and “Q” plus the correct Access Code has been entered. Once in this mode it will respond to Relay Commands. The RC-3 leaves the Relay Control State when the Access Timer elapses (Ring Trip Connection or Parallel Connection with Access Code enabled) or when the user hangs up in Trunk Connection or Series Connection. Similar to the Unsecure State but in the Unsecure State the Access Timer does not apply. RING TRIP CONNECTION: In the Ring Trip Connection, the RC-3 is connected to a CO line or analog PABX/KSU station. Talk battery is pro- vided by the CO or PABX, so the RC-3 talk battery switch should be turned OFF. The CO or PABX rings the RC-3, which answers after the pro- grammed ring count and can then provide relay closures. SECURE STATE: When access code is enabled (dip switch 2 ON) and “Q” plus the correct access code has not yet been entered, the RC-3 is in the Secure State. In this Secure State, the RC-3 ignores all other touch tone dialing except “Q” plus a match to the Access Code to access the Relay Control State or “Q” plus a match to the Security Code to access the programming mode. SECURITY CODE: The Security Code is a six-digit touch tone code used to enter programming. Once the code has been successfully entered, any of the programmable features can be changed. It is recommended that the default Security Code of 845464 be changed to a unique code by the user in programming. See Programming. SERIES CONNECTION: The Series Connection is when the phone line or talk path is passed through the RC-3 from “In” to “Out”. The RC-3 then uses it’s Loop Detection to determine when the line is in use or goes back to idle. Once the Relay Control State has been accessed, the user remains in the Relay Control State as long as the loop is still detected. The Access Timer and Programming Timer are not running in the Series Connection. TRUNK CONNECTION: In the Trunk Connection, the RC-3 is connected to a trunk input of a phone system or phones dedicated for relay con- trol. The RC-3 provides 32V of talk battery, and the unit is accessed by just going offhook on a connected phone or accessing the trunk input. The Access Timer and Programming Timer are not running in the Trunk Connection. UNSECURE STATE: When the access code is disabled (dip switch 2 off), the RC-3 is in the Unsecure State. In this mode, the RC-3 continu- ously monitors touch tones and acts on any match to a relay command it detects, even if they are preceded by or followed by other touch tones. The Access Timer is not running in the Unsecure State. N/O COM N/C N/O COM N/C N/O COM N/C Viking Doorbox (W-2000A shown) or Call VIKING© C.O. Expanding To Control From 4 to 9 Relays Two or three RC-3’s can be daisy chained to the same line to control 1 to 9 relays. One “master” RC-3 can power up to two “slave” RC-3’s by daisy chaining power from terminals 9 and 10. The master/slave shunt should be removed from each slave unit. This will disable each slave’s ring detection and will also reduce the total REN loading on the line. Note: Each unit must be programmed separately before connecting to the same line (see Programming), and must be programmed with the same access code. Battery Feed switches on the slave units must be in the “OFF” position. A. Entering the Programming Mode a. Connect a Touch Tone phone to the RJ-OUT jack. b.
