When this happens, disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the mains socket and check the dust compartment and filters as it may be full or clogged with fine dust. Check for any other obstructions. After emptying the dust compartment or removing the obstruction, leave the vacuum cleaner to cool down until the thermal cut- out resets after approximately 40 minutes. IMPORTANT: The thermal cut-out will not reset if the vacuum cleaner is not disconnected from the mains socket. MAINS LEAD IMPORTANT: If the mains lead becomes damaged, it must be repaired by Panasonic, authorised service centre or a qualified person in order to avoid any hazard. NOTE: After using the accessories, re-insert the hose into the suction pipe inlet by aligning tabs on the handle assembly with slots on the body as shown. Reattach hose ring. Tabs Slot 13 CAUTION: To prevent damaging carpeted floors, tiled floors, linoleum, etc. when using tools the Carpet/Bare Floor selector should be placed in the BARE FLOOR (TOOLS) position. This vacuum cleaner has a thermal cut-out which

automatically trips to protect the vacuum cleaner from overheating. If a clog prevents the normal flow of air to the motor, the thermal cut-out turns the motor off automatically to allow the motor to cool in order to prevent possible damage to the vacuum cleaner. To correct problem: If this occurs, turn the vacuum cleaner off and unplug the vacuum cleaner from the mains outlet to allow the vacuum cleaner to cool and the thermal cut-out to reset. Check for and remove clogs, if necessary. Also check and clean/replace any clogged filters. Wait approximately forty (40) minutes before switching on the vacuum cleaner. The motor protector will not reset if the vacuum cleaner is not turned off even if the vacuum cleaner has cooled down. H) MOTOR PROTECTOR Motor Protector This vacuum cleaner has a motor protector by-pass valve which automatically opens to provide cooling air to the motor when a clog prevents the normal flow of air to the motor. If the by-pass valve opens to prevent motor overheating and possible damage to the vacuum cleaner, you will notice a change of sound as air rushes through the valve opening. To correct problem: See the TROUBLE-SHOOTING guide (page 13). NOTE: The motor protector may open when using attachments or when cleaning new carpet, due to reduced airflow by the attachments themselves or by new carpet fluff filling the dust bin quickly. See the TROUBLE- SHOOTING guide (page 13). I) THERMAL CUT-OUT CAUTION: Do not block motor protector. - 7 - - 12 - 14 Secondary Filter Screen 15 If the vacuum cleaner does not seem to have adequate suction, first check if the dust bin is full or if a filter is clogged. Check the hose area. Remove extension hose by grasping the hose collar, twisting, and pulling straight off. Visually inspect the hose and the base area into which the hose is connected. Remove any visible clog. Re-connect the extension hose to the dust bin port assembly. Plug in the vacuum cleaner and turn it on. Stretch the hose to maximum length and then allow the hose to return to its storage length. Turn the vacuum cleaner off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Remove dust bin and check secondary filter screen for clogs. If the dust bin and filter areas and the hose areas are free of clogs, check the nozzle area. Return the vacuum cleaner to the upright position before plugging into an electrical outlet. G) BLOCKAGES

Before replacing the primary filter it is a good idea to clean the inside of the dust bin. CAUTION: When cleaning filter, do not use brush or other simular tools that would damage the filter itself. Simply tap the filter on the edge of cap for normal dry cleaning. For more thorough cleaning, rinse outside of filter with water and allow to dry thoroughly before reuse in vacuum cleaner.
