2. Construction
This impact wrench is an electric tool of class II in accordance
with the VDE regulations 0740. In addition to the normal insula-
tion the tool is provided with double insulation. The second
insulation separates all accessible parts of the metal casing from
all internal parts liable to become live. The protective insula-
tion is tested with the prescribed test voltage of 4000 V (1500 V
for class I) . The machine is radio suppressed in accordance with
radio interference degree N. It is supplied with a two-core cable
without earth wire and must not be earthed.
Gearing and percussion mechanism are totally enclosed in the
tool-head casing ; their construction is well-planned and clear.
The tool holder complies with international standards and has
a 1" square drive.
The machine is provided with a reversing switch for clockwise
and anticlockwise rotation. It must not be operated when the
machine is running.
To prevent the overbridging of the insulation no additional
marking plates and signs must be riveted or screwed on the
housing. We recommend the use of transfers only.

Type ASb 758 for low tension (42 Volts) is of the same design,
but not radio suppressed.
3. Connection
Main v oltage must correspond to the operating voltage marked
on the rating plate. The tool can be plugged into plain or safety
sockets.
4. Mode of Operation
The motor drives the tool holder with tool attached via gearing
and percussion mechanism. The direct drive is cut out as soon
as the screw or nut has been roughly run down. Once the motor
reaches its rated load, the percussion mechanism comes into
operation and converts the drive force of the motor - which
continues to run at uniform speed - into an intermittent torque
with two strokes for each revolution of the· driv e assembly.
Screws and nuts are slackened in reverse order: first percussion
strokes, followed by direct drive. The tool is easy to handle, as
the operator needs not exert any restraining torque. As the
clutch will always disengage as soon as the rated load is attain-
ed, the motor cannot be overloaded.

The full tightening or slackening action provided depends on the
time during which the percussion mechanism is allowed to run.
Max. tightening torque is the sum of the torque applied by each
stroke.1 According to the type of screwed connection the max.
torque will generally represent approx. 100 single torque strok-
es, which are applied in 5 seconds. Available max. torque in
normal service is 500 lbs. ft (70 mkg) (see diagram).
There is no point in applying the tool for longer than 5 seconds
since the torque will not increase any further, while the tool
head will appreciably heat. Overheating will lead to increased
wear of all percussion components and excessive lubricant
consumption.
6. Maintenance and Lubrication
This will depend on the duty. The following instructions are for
continuous use in 8-hour day with actual tool running time
representing 20°/o of total duty period.
Grease once per week at the lubricating nipple (58). Percussion
mechanism and gearing should be completely cleaned of old
grease at least every 400 duty hours (approx. 8 weeks).
For this purpose unscrew four screws (64). remove outer bear-
ing (57) and lift percussion mechanism out of intermediate bear-
ing without dismantling it. Then apply plenty of grease Sst 1 to
the impact faces of parts (55) and (56), as well as to planetary
gearing (80 g/2 oz). Reference for tube: MZ 60-3/Sst 1 (90 g/3 oz).
After 900 hours rinse ball bearings in clean solvent and pack
with fresh grease (Sst 1). The space between inner and outer
rings is to be one third filled with grease in order to prevent
overheating of the bearings.
To avoid overheating and to ensure adequate lubrication at the
same time, it is important to pack the gearing with the grades
and quantities of grease listed in the table below:
No claims can be entertained for damage due to negligent main-
tenance and inadequate lubrication.
If, after long duty, the impact dogs of percussion piston (55) and
tool holder (50) are worn they must be reground so that the
mechanisms should be dismantled according to the instructions.
We recommend our Fein Service Stations to carry out all
repair work of this kind quickly and expertly.
Please, take care that all electric parts are only cleaned dry.
7. Dismantling
1. Pull cable plug out of socket.
2. Take off motor housing cover (11), draw eut carbon brushes
(10).
3. Take off handle cover (40 and 30). loosen supply cable and
inner connection cables at switch (32). Draw out switch and
clamp off cable (28) with cable protecting sleeve (36) from
clamping bridge (34).
4. Take off lower handle part (37 and 29), pull out insulating
sleeves (66).
5. Unscrew four screws (64). take off outer bearing (57), inter-
mediate bearing (21) with armature (15) from motor housing
(1) and push armature (15) together with fan wheel and
ball bearing (20 and 61) out of intermediate bearing (21).
6. Take off tool holder (56). Push percussion piston (55) on driv-
ing shaft (46) backwards and take off two balls (54). Compres-
sion spring (53) and compression ring (52) are free. Please,
take care that the balls are not lost.
The pin (49) for the planetary gear wheel may be easily
pushed through the drill hole of the driving shaft (46).
Re-assemble in reverse sequence.
8. Repair and Spare Parts
We recommend our Fein Service Stations to carry out all over-
haul and repair work quickly and expertly.
Please, quote Order Reference when ordering spare parts or
send in sample part stating the type of the machine.
We draw your attention to the need to carry out a high voltage
test in accordance with your local regulations (or VDE regu-
lation 0740) before taking a tool into service after any repair
carried out by your own staff.
Prior to work commencing, when working and when servicing
the machine always pay attention to the Regulations custo-
machine reaches its full tightening torque. Damaged percussion
mary in your Country.
