The Amico medical gas alarm system (ALERT-1) incorporates the latest digital technology in alarm

arid surveillance systems. The system has been designed primarily for user flexibility and reliability. • Digital read-out for every gas service measured. • Bar-graph display for trend indication. • HI/LOW alarm indication with adjustable repeat times. • Interface to building management computer. • Easily expandable for additional gas services. • NO moving parts v e r y reliable. • Modular construction e a s e of maintenance. • Plexiglass front covere a s y to clean. • Adjustable repeat alarm Optional computer interface. • Meets requirements of CSA 2305.1. ALERT-1 is divided into four main modules which plug into the alarm box. 1. POWER SUPPLY MODULE This 'module converts the 115 VAC supply voltage into 24 VDC required for the alarm system and contains the audible alarm and lamp test circuitry. 2. PRESSURE/VACUUM DISPLAY MODULE This module provides a digital display of the actual pressure or vacuum of a gas being monitored. In addition a gas movement trend and HI/LOW alarm section is provided for quick identifica- tion. 3. SENSOR MODULE This module contains the transducer which converts the pressure (vacuum) source into an electric signal that is displayed b y the pressure display module. = I -.I-GAS Features include: MEDICAL CAS ALARM SYSTEM (((co)) P0v,'ER LIGHT AUDIBLE ALARM ...4.1,!2 TEST & I = " I --I-AL;-Rm SILENCE ANDO I N S T R U + 0 0 5 14101070. In this mode the alarm system will signal both alarm conditions and system malfunctions. PIGTAIL T E R M I N A L BLOCK 5. ALARM BOX These modules are pluged into the motherboard of the alarm box once it has been installed in the wall. FUSE TRANSFORMER MOTHERBOARD The box itself (Fig. 1), houses the pigtails that deliver the gases (vacuum) into the alarm and in addition contains: • transformer • main fuse • overload protection unit • terminal block (115VAC) • motherboard 2

A. BOX IN THE WALL

(MASTER STATUS & AREA ALARMS) 1. Remove the alarm box from the shipping carton and install the box securely in the roughed-in wall at the appropriate place. The mounting brack- ets are adjustable to suit the thickness of the wall. Do not remove the Window Frame or any Modules from the ship- ping carton until the box is mounted in the wall and all the plastering, external wiring, and brazing of the copper pig- tails is complete. (AREA ALARMS ONLY) 2. Once the box is installed in the wall remove the dust cover from the front. Using silver-brazing techniques, con- nect each pigtail to its appropriate gas (Vacuum) while ensuring that the bot- tom of the pigtail is wrapped with a damp cloth so as not to damage the check-valve inside the box. (Fig. 2) The system can now be pressure tested. B. MODULES CAUTION Fig. 2 The circuitry on ALERT-1 contains sophisticated integrated circuits and as such can be damaged by static. When installing the modules, hold the boards by the edges and do not touch any of the components or circuitry on the board. Static discharge to a component can cause the module to malfunction. During the installation of the modules, the supply (115 VAC) should not be connected. 3

1. POWER MODULE

(a) Remove the power module from its box by holding the metallic plate that covers the circuit board. (b) Plug the connector which is located at the end of the tail of the power module into the first (leftmost) receptacle on the motherboard. Since the connector is keyed it should slide into the receptacle easily. If resistance is encountered, it indicates the connector is not being inserted the right way. Ensure that there are no pins visible on either end of the motherboard connector. (c) Flip the power module so that it hangs by its cable just below the box. The circuit with all the components should now be visible. (d) Bring the power lines which protrude through the transformer cover up to the female socket on the power module and insert the male plug into the female socket as shown in Figure 3. The con- nector is keyed and hence should slide into the socket easily. Fig. 3 (e) The audible alarm is equipped with a repeater function preset at a 30 minute interval, but shipped disabled. If the repeater function is desired, move black "jumper" from "DIS" (disable) position to "ENABLE" position, then adjust screw dial at the top of module to any desired alarm repeat time between 30 and 2 minutes.

PRESSURE AND SENSOR MODULES

2. PRESSURE DISPLAY AND SENSOR MODULES These two modules are installed concurrently. The sensor module contains the transducer which is connected to the brass quick-disconnect. SENSOR M O D U L E NOTE: A LW AY S HOLD THIS MODULE BY T H E BRASS QUICK-DICONNECT FITTING. (Fig. 4) (a) Plug the brass male connector protruding from the top of the sensor module into the female receptacle in the box in the wall. The connector should click into place. (Fig. 4) (b) Remove the display module from its box and plug the connector atthe end of the tail into the appropriate connector on the motherboard just below the sensor module. (Fig. 5) (c) Flip the display module so that it hangs by its cable just below the box. The circuit with all the components should now be visible. (d) Plug the small cable leading from the end of the sensor module into terminal J2 on the pressure display module. (Fig. 4) (e) The unit has been factory calibrated and requires no adjustments. Calibration Procedure for the Pressure Display Module

Setup: Connect the display PCB to a well calibrated Sensor module in a working frame and power supply. The calibration of the pressure module requires the following equipment: - Source of known pressure with a reliable gauge or pressure measuring instrument. Procedure: 1 Set the jumper selections SW1, SW2, SW3 and SW5 according to the pressure range to be calibrated. 2 Set the calibrate/operate switch (SW4) to the calibrate position. 3 Apply power to the module. 4 Disconnect the pressure sensor module and short terminals #1 and #4 of connector J2 on the display module. Adjust R22 for zero numerical indication. 5 Reconnect the pressure sensor module and apply a known, measured pressure (preferable at least 90% full scale) to the pressure transducer. 6 Adjust R25 for the appropriate numerical indication for the range and units of display settings of SW1, SW2, SW3 and SW5. Repeat steps 4,5 and 6 until satisfactory. 7 Apply an input for 50% of scale. Adjust R42 to place the bargraph display at center. 8 Confirm that the decimal select jumper SW3 will turn on either the middle or right hand decimal points. 9 Confirm that alarms are generated and that the "HI ALARM" and "LOW ALARM" LED's flash and the "NORMAL" LED extinguishes, by changing the pressure out of the safe area (+/- 20%), or by readjusting R42 to artificially move the LED bar display. 10 Put the calibrate/operate switch (SW4) to the operate position. The Pressure Display Module is factory calibrated for set points at 40 PSI (LOW)/60 PSI (HIGH). If you wish to change the settings, you would adjust "R42" to move the whole range up or down. DO NOT adjust "R22" and "R25", they are factory set at "0" and full scale. Do not adjust the potentiometers on the sensor modules, they are also factory set at "0" and full scale. To obtain a larger or smaller range you must change "SW2" and then adjust "R6" to obtain the proper range. You would then adjust "R42" to obtain the desired values.
