4.1 Microphone Inputs

On the rear there are six microphone inputs (20) with removable terminals. The connection is balanced. For each input the gain can be adjusted on the rear (1 - 100 mV). The input volume is adjusted with the volume control (1) on the front. Microphone 1 or all microphone inputs can be selected for the ducking function (refer to chapter “4.1.1 Priority switching”). Caution: A phantom power of +27 V is switched on for all microphone inputs (place J9 = on; place J8 = off). If you connect devices with unbalanced outputs, switch off the phantom power or add a coupling capacitor. If condenser microphones and devices with unbalanced outputs are used simultaneously, we recommend switching off the phantom power according to the used input. 4.1.1 Priority Control (Ducking Function) The priority of the privileged microphone inputs is voice-controlled (ducking). The priority control is available for microphone input 1 or all microphone inputs. The faded out signals are reduced by 40 dB. The fade-out depth and the speed of the fade-out and fade-in are selected with the software. When the ducking function is chosen for microphone input 1, microphone inputs 2 to 6 and the selected line input are faded out. When the ducking function is chosen for all microphone inputs, only the selected line input is faded out. The fade-out is effected by talking into a microphone which is connected to one of the privileged microphone inputs. A handheld or desktop microphone unit can be used. The MIX 10 NG is delivered with the ducking function being deactivated. If you want to use the ducking function, activate it via the software as described in the chapter “8.4.2. Ducking”. 4.2 Line Inputs Four separate line inputs (RCA phono) are on the rear of the unit. One of these four line inputs can be selected with the input selection control (3). The inputs are unbalanced and suitable for the connection of stereo devices. The input gain can be adjusted for each input on the rear (Level). The input volume is adjusted with the volume control (2) on the front. When the MIX 10 NG is switched on, the line input 1 “Tuner” is always selected. You can select more functions by using the software and the RS 232 connection. 4.3 Mix Input The mix input (RCA phono) (19) is on the rear of the unit. The connection is unbalanced and suitable for stereo sound sources. This input is suitable for the connection of more MIX 10s or mixing consoles. The input gain (Level) for the mix input can be adjusted on the rear of the unit. Depending on the configuration and on how the MIX 10 NG is used, this input is used as “Return” for the insert (refer to chapters “4.5 Effect Loop” and “6. Jumper Configuration”) and/or can be routed to the Master or Sub. 4.4 Record Output for the Microphone Master The record output (14) is unbalanced (0 dB). It is used for the connection of recording devices. The signal to be recorded is the master of the microphone inputs before the sound and master volume control. Depending on the configuration and on how the MIX 10 NG is used, this output is used as “Send” (R) and Out-Return (L) for the insert (refer to chapters “4.5 Effect Loop” and “6. Jumper Configuration”). 4.5 Record Out-Return - Effect Loop The Rec Out-Return (14) can be used for the connection of external devices such as equalisers, compressor/limiters etc. The microphone master is available for the effect loop. If the insert function is to be used, then the printed circuit board has to be configured according to the use of the mixer. Various connections are used as Send or Return connection (refer to chapter “6. Jumper Configuration”). 4.6 Master Output The master output (8), +6 dBu, is a balanced output for the connection to an external output amplifier. All microphone and line signals are sent to the master outputs. The balanced output is monitored and one or more Protect LED’s (6) on the front are illuminated should errors occur. The master output (8) is suitable when using long cables. The master output (13), 0 dBu, is an unbalanced output serving as an additional auxiliary output. It is parallel to the master output (8). The master output (13) is suitable when using short cables.

4.7 Sub group Output

The sub group output (9), +6 dBu, is a balanced output for the connection to an external output amplifier. All microphone and line signals of the sub group are sent to the master outputs. The balanced output is controlled and one or more Protect LEDs (6) on the front are illuminated should errors occur. The adjusted stereo volume of the MIX 10 NG is displayed both graphically next to the slide control and numerically in the field “current”. The volume adjustment corresponds to the master level (5) adjusted on the MIX 10 NG. The values to be adjusted and displayed are as follows: 0 to -16 dB in 0.5 dB steps -16 to -48 dB in 1.0 dB steps -48 to -76 dB in 2.0 dB steps -104 dB mute Absolute In the “absolute” field a volume reduction to a preset value in dB can be done. Using the pull down menu the value is adjusted to a certain value to which the volume is reduced. There are two possibilities: 1. “set” - By selecting the “set” button the value is adjusted immediately. 2. “fade” - By selecting the “fade” button the value is adjusted slowly according to the adjusted speed (refer to chapter “8.4.3 Fading”). Relative In the “relative” field the volume can be increased or reduced in defined steps. Using the pull down menu you can select the value and select the “higher” or “lower” option. There are two possibilities: 1. “set” - By selecting the “set” button the value is adjusted immediately. 2. “fade” - By selecting the “fade” button the value is ajusted slowly according to the adjusted speed (refer to chapter “8.4.3 Fading”). Ducking You can effect the ducking function manually by selecting the “manu” button. The stereo signal is faded out according to the configuration (refer to chapter “8.4.2 Ducking”). Using the “manu” button once again, the stereo signal is faded in again. The “manu” indication shows this function. The “auto” indication shows that the ducking function is effected by a microphone signal. During an activated ducking function the volume can be changed. The ducking reduction remains the same. For configurations of the switch-on status refer to chapter “8.4.1 Start”. 8.3.4 Mic Using the slide control in the “Mic” field you can adjust the microphone volume. Depending on the use and configuration it is possible to control microphone 1 or the signal of the Mic 1 - 6 microphone master. The fade-in and fade-out speed of the stereo signal depends on the adjusted speed (refer to chapter “8.4.3 Fading”). The adjusted microphone volume of the MIX 10 NG is displayed both graphically next to the slide control and numerically in the “current” field. The volume adjustment corresponds to the master level (5) adjusted at the MIX 10 NG. The values to be adjusted and displayed are as follows: 0 to -16 dB in 0.5 dB steps -16 to -48 dB in 1.0 dB steps -48 to -76 dB in 2.0 dB steps -104 dB mute Absolute In the “absolute” field a volume reduction to a preset value in dB can be entered. Using the pull down menu the value is selected to which the volume is reduced. Using the pull down menu in the “steps” field you can select the value and the “higher” or “lower” options. There are two possibilities: 1. “set” - By selecting the “set” button the value is adjusted immediately. 2. “fade” - By selecting the “fade” button the value is adjusted slowly according to the adjusted speed (refer to chapter “8.4.3 Fading”). For configurations of the switch-on status refer to chapter “8.4.1 Start”.

You enter the configuration menu by selecting the “F5” key on your keyboard or the “Configuration” command in the “MIX 10 NG”

menu. You can select the following settings. 8.4.1 Start In the “Start” tab you can select the switch-on state for “stereo gain”, “mic gain” and “line source”. The stereo gain and mic gain are set with the appropriate controls. There are two possibilities: 1. “as switched off” - the settings are stored when the device is switched off and the system is started with these settings when it is switched on again. 2. “always as below” - the system starts with the selected settings when it is switched on. OK - With “OK” you confirm the settings, store them and close the window. Cancel - With “Cancel” you close the window without storing possible changes. Apply - With “Apply” you confirm the settings and store them. The window remains open. 8.4.2 Ducking In the “Ducking” tab you can adjust the ducking function. In the “mic trigger” field you can adjust the following parameters: 1. “enabled” - Activating or deactivating the “enabled” check box the automatic ducking function effected by the mic signal can be activated or deactivated. Depending on the use and configuration the mic signal is the signal of microphone 1 or the microphone master. 2. “threshold” - Using the control you can adjust the threshold of the microphone signal i.e. you adjust the threshold at which level someone has to speak into the microphone so that ducking is activated. 3. “hold time” - With the “hold time” control you can adjust the time until the previously reduced signal is faded in again. This time period should not be selected too short. In the “stereo ducking” field you can adjust the following parameters: 1. “attenuation” - Using the attenuation control you can adjust how deep the stereo signal is to be reduced when it is faded out. 2. “fade in” - “fade out” - You can adjust how fast or slow the stereo signal for the ducking function is faded out or in. In this illustration the stereo signal is faded out rapidly and faded in more slowly. Caution: For the fade-out and fade-in speed of the “fade” command for the stereo or microphone signal refer to chapter “8.4.3 Fading”. OK - With “OK” you confirm the settings, store them and close the window. Cancel - With “Cancel” you close the window without storing possible changes. Apply - With “Apply” you confirm the settings and store them. The window remains open.

In the “Fading” tab you can adjust how fast or slow the stereo or mic signal is

faded out or in, if the “fade” command has been entered in the “Remote Control” user interface. Caution: For the fade-out and fade-in speed of the ducking function refer to chapter “8.4.2 Ducking”. OK - With “OK” you confirm the settings, store them and close the window. Cancel - With “Cancel” you close the window without storing possible changes.
