SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION

SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION The Valco LLD alarm system provides solid-state electronic surveillance of a gluing system’s glue supply. There are two types of LLD alarm systems available. The first is the traditional alarm system, the LLD Alarm System, that alerts the operator that the glue level is low. The operator must then refill the glue manually. The traditional LLD alarm system is activated when the glue supply in the tank drops below a pre-established level. It contains no moving parts. The LLD alarm system consists of the following components: • A low-level detection probe, which is inserted into the glue supply tank (reservoir) • An electronics control box, which incorporates both a visual and an audio annunciator. The LLD alarm system offers a dual-level warning capability: • Warning level Warning level Warning level Warning level Warning level—The warning level is indicated by a flashing light that alerts the operator that the glue level is low. • Low level (for non-pressurized drums and vats only) Low level (for non-pressurized drums and vats only) Low level (for non-pressurized drums and vats only) Low level (for non-pressurized drums and vats only) Low level (for non-pressurized drums and vats only)—The low level is indicated by an audio alarm that alerts the operator that the glue level is critically low. When the low- level alarm sounds, the glue tank should be refilled immediately. The activation depth of both alarms can be easily adjusted in the field. The second type of LLD alarm system, the AutoRefill LLD System, does not require manual refilling. Instead of an alarm being sounded, the low level detection triggers the automatic refilling pump to refill the glue pot. This LLD configuration is for non-pressurized drums and vats only. About this Manual Valco Cincinnati has prepared this manual as an aid for installing, operating, and servicing the low level detection (LLD) alarm system. It also contains a list of part numbers for replacement parts. Product Description

SECTION 3 - INSTALLATION

3 - INSTALLATION 3 - INSTALLATION 3 - INSTALLATION 3 - INSTALLATION This section contains two subsections: 1) The LLD Alarm Installation 2) The AutoRefill LLD System. Please be sure to use the correct section for your application. LLD Alarm Installation Before installing the LLD alarm system, carefully inspect the system for damage incurred during shipment. If damage is discovered, contact your shipper. Mounting the Control Box The control box should be mounted: • In a location where the flashing light can be readily observed by the operator • Close to both an electrical power outlet and to the glue tank A 15-foot (5 M) probe cable and 7.5- foot (2.5 M) power cable are supplied with the LLD alarm system. To install the control box, follow these steps: 1. Using the upper and lower mounting flanges of the unit, mount the control box to a stationary (non-vibrating) support. The main power supply must be 115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 2/1 A. The 115/230 power requirement is field-switchable. The power module accepts a standard IEC line cord (supplied). To connect the line cord, follow these steps: 1. Attach the line cord clamp to the bottom surface of the control box, using the two screws on either side of the power module. 2. Insert the line cord into the power module 3. Tighten the line cord clamp to prevent inadvertent loss of power. The line cord supplied can either be directly wired to a branch circuit or (with the proper plug type) plugged into a 115 or 230 VAC outlet socket. The wire colors of the supplied line cord are as follows: Electrical Installation of the Control Box Wire Type International Line Cord Color North American Line Cord Color Line Brown Black Neutral Blue White Ground Green/Yellow Green

For line-to-neutral operation, use the shorting clip (jumper) and one fuse. Shorting clip must be on left side (when rotated to read the correct voltage). For line-to-line operation, use two fuses. 7. Replace the drawer in the fuse holder and close the door of the fuse holder. 8. The operating voltage shows through the window in the fuse holder door. Ensure that voltage is correct. 9. Replace the line cord.

Section 3 - Installation

MC036 - Low Level Detection Alarm/AutoRefill Systems The low level detection probe can be installed only on the following two types of tanks: • Pressurized Pressurized Pressurized Pressurized Pressurized—5-, 7-, and 12-gallon epoxy-coated tanks; 3-, 5- , and 10-gallon stainless-steel tanks • Non-pressurized Non-pressurized Non-pressurized Non-pressurized Non-pressurized—55-gallon drums Pressurized tanks use a single-probe assembly (Figure 3-2). Non-pressurized tanks use a three-probe assembly (Figure 3-4). The LLD alarm system can be mounted in tank systems that incorporate two glue-feed supply pipes only only only only only if one of the supply pipes can be removed. A “tee” is then placed in the remaining supply line to feed the two glue systems (this supply technique will prove adequate in most cases). However, systems that require two feed pipes will not accommodate the LLD alarm system. To install the low level detection probe on epoxy-coated and stainless-steel tanks, follow these steps: 1. Completely release tank pressure by either disconnecting the air hose from the input of the air regulator or adjusting the air regulator knob counterclockwise so gauge reads 0 psi. 2. Ensure that the level probe (Figures 3-2 and 3-3) is the correct length for the tank assembly. The new-style level probes are longer than the old-style level probes. To use a new-style level probe in an old-style tank, cut the rod to the length indicated in Figure 3-2. Otherwise, see the dimensions in Figure 3-3. 3. Remove the pipe plug from the top of the tank assembly. 4. Add pipe sealant to pipe threads of probe. 5. Insert probe into tank. 6. Attach probe interconnect cable. 7. Wire probe interconnect cable to LLD control box (Figures 3-7 and 3-8). Mechanical Installation of the Probe Pressurized Tanks

SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE

SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE Introduction This section contains guidelines and procedures for maintaining the LLD Alarm/AutoRefill System. Your system will run longer and more consistently if a preventative maintenance program is used. General Maintenance Valco recommends the following general maintenance: • Keep the control box door closed except when working on the control circuitry. This will prevent dust and dirt from entering the unit. • Occasionally wipe the surface of the control box, using a clean cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution. • To prevent glue buildup, remove the probe from the glue supply tank whenever the glue supply is replenished, and wash off the probe.
