Repairs - Batteries

4.10 Batteries The following tools are necessary for this task: WARNING! Turn off the main circuit breaker Always turn off the main circuit breaker when you do service on the batteries. WARNING! Use safety gloves and safety goggles Always use safety gloves and safety goggles when working with batteries. Exercise caution when using metallic tools or other objects while working with batteries. Batteries are heavy and charged devices and must be handled with great caution. Failure to follow any of these warnings could cause a short circuit, explosion, property damage and/or bodily harm. WARNING! Handling batteries - avoid short-circuit Exercise caution when using metallic objects during work with batteries. A short-circuit can easily cause an explosion. Always use safety gloves and goggles. Remember that the batteries are heavy and must be handled with great caution. CAUTION! Recycling batteries Used batteries must be disposed of responsibly in accordance with local recycling regulations. 4.10.1 Charging the batteries Figure 100. Position of the charging socket. The Explorer Mini must only be charged with the supplied battery charger in a dry room with good ventilation. There is a green LED on the battery charger that is lit when the battery is fully charged. Read the user manual supplied with the battery charger. While the Explorer Mini charges, it is automatically locked and cannot be driven. The LEDs on the battery indicator show the battery status. For information on the battery status, see 6.2.1 LEDs on the battery indicator. CAUTION! Sharp edges on cable Be careful when connecting the cable to the socket. The edges of the three-pin contact are sharp. 51

Repairs - Circuit breakers

4.11 Circuit breakers The following tools are necessary for this task: 4.11.1 Electrical fault NOTICE Investigate tripped main circuit breaker A tripped main circuit breaker often indicates a major electrical fault. The cause of a tripped main circuit breaker must be carefully investigated and determined before resetting the circuit breaker. The main circuit breaker also functions as a fuse, and the Explorer Mini will automatically be turned off if an electrical fault occurs. If this happens you can try to turn on the Explorer Mini again. If the Explorer Mini is overloaded because of high power consumption, the main circuit breaker may be tripped, and a major electrical fault may be the cause. Carefully investigate the cause before you start the Explorer Mini again. 4.11.2 Removing the main circuit breaker • Torque wrench. • Torx T8 socket. • Pliers. 1. Remove the top cover. Adjustments - Seat

5 Adjustments Make sure that all settings are adapted to the child’s needs. An adult or healthcare provider must decide which settings are applicable for the child, taking into consideration his or her age and capacity. WARNING! Do not adjust while the child is in the wheelchair Do not adjust the settings while the child is in the Explorer Mini. 5.1 Seat 5.1.1 Adjusting the seat height The seat height is dependent on the height of the table and backrest unit. When the height of the table and backrest unit is adjusted, the distance between the seat and the base module is also changed. The center of gravity changes when you change the position of the seat. When you raise the seat, you decrease the wheelchair´s stability. Use the plunger knob located under the seat to adjust the seat height. CAUTION! Pinch risk There is a pinch risk when you adjust the height. Figure 135. Adjusting the seat height. 1. Pull out the plunger knob (A) located under the seat. 2. Troubleshooting - Control panel diagnostics

6.2 Control panel diagnostics Each time you turn on the Explorer Mini a self-diagnostic check of the electronics is done. If a fault has occurred it is indicated by flashing LEDs on the battery indicator and the maximum speed indicator. You need to remove the tray top to access the control panel and the LEDs on the battery indicator and the maximum speed indicator. For information on how to remove the tray top, see 4.2.1 Removing the tray top. Troubleshooting and repairs must always be performed by qualified personnel with good knowledge of the wheelchair‘s electronics. NOTICE Error signals Error messages are not displayed on the indicators while the wheelchair is being driven. They appear when it is next started. 6.2.1 LEDs on the battery indicator Figure 140. Battery indicator. A shows the red LED lit. B shows the yellow LEDs lit. C shows the green LEDs lit. The LEDs on the battery indicator show the battery status and if a problem with the electronics has occurred: • When the batteries are fully charged, the red LED (A), yellow LEDs (B), and green LEDs (C) are lit. • When the battery level is critically low, the red LED (A) flashes and a beep sounds. This means that you have to charge the batteries immediately to prevent that the Explorer Mini stops working. • If all LEDs (A, B, and C) flash, there is a problem with the electronics. 6.2.2 LEDs on the maximum speed indicator Figure 141. Maximum speed indicator. A shows the maximum setting. B shows the medium setting. C shows the minimum setting. The LEDs on the speed indicator show the current maximum speed setting and if a problem with the electronics has occurred: • When the fifth LED (A) is lit, the maximum setting is active. • When the third LED (B) is lit, the medium setting is active. • When the first LED (C) is lit, the minimum setting is active. • If the LEDs flash, there is a problem with the electronics. 6.2.3 Rapidly flashing, one to ten LEDs If the LEDs on the battery indicator and the maximum speed indicator rapidly flash a fault has occurred in the electronics of the Explorer Mini and you may not drive the wheelchair. Follow the instructions below: 1. Turn off the wheelchair. 2. Turn on the wheelchair. If the fault continues, count the flashes and find a possible cause and remedy. See 6.2.4 Example of error messages and remedies. 3. Do not use the Explorer Mini until the problem is solved or you have received other information from your service provider. 75

Troubleshooting - Control panel diagnostics

6.2.4 Example of error messages and remedies If the problem continues after you have done the remedies described in the table below, please contact your service provider or Permobil. For contact information, see 1.2 Technical support. Event Possible cause Remedy One flash The connection to the batteries is poor or the batteries needs to be charged. Make sure that the connections to the batteries are correct. Charge the batteries. Two flashes The connection to the left drive unit is poor. Make sure that the connection to the left drive unit is correct. Three flashes The left drive unit has a short-circuit to the battery connection. Investigate if an electrical fault has occurred. If necessary, you may need to replace the left drive unit. Four flashes The connection to the right drive unit is poor. Make sure that the connection to the right drive unit is correct. Five flashes The right drive unit has a short-circuit to the battery connection. Investigate if an electrical fault has occurred. If necessary, you may need to replace the right drive unit. Seven flashes Joystick error 1. Make sure that the joystick is in the neutral position. 2. Press the on/off button to turn off the control panel. 3. Remove the tray top to make sure that the LEDs on the control panel are off. 4. Press the on/off button to turn on the control panel again. Eight flashes Error in the control system. Make sure that all connections are secured. Nine flashes Poor connection to the parking brake. The parking brake function should not be available. Make sure that the device is correctly programmed. Ten flashes Excessive voltage to the control system, which is probably caused by poor connection to the batteries. Make sure that the connections to the batteries are correct. 6.2.5 Repairing defective units Apart from specific OEM-approved spare parts, there are no replaceable parts in the nVR2 control system. Contact Permobil for further information on OEM-approved spare parts. 76
