Bauanleitung Bell UH-1D

You can assemble the Piccolo chassis as described in the Piccolo guide. Skip the skid assembly, main engine, tail rotor and boom. Lengthen the two CF back legs at 27mm and glue as described. ut the tail motors wires going through. Mechanical preparation One should go through these instructions to get a good view on the complete construction. Pls. take your time to read the instructions for the glue used for the construction of your new flight object: This glue needs to be kept away from children. No contact should be allowed for children. It works in seconds and glues skin and eyes. After eye-contact please rinse carefully and see a doctor immediately. Do not use with Styrofoam parts. This is a contact type glue. Cover both surfaces meant to be glued together as thinly as possible with the glue and leave to try 10-60 minutes before carefully joining Attention: Cyanoacrylate glue: UHU-Por: Cut a 35mm long piece from the tail boom and glue as described without the tail motors wires going through. : De-solder the wires from the tail motor, pull them out off the tail boom, and then shorten the tail boom to leave 10 to 15 mm out of the chassis. Cut away the front legs, and shorten the back legs at 27mm. Cut loose the tail rotor assembly from the tail boom. Since the complete assembly will hang on the canopy holder part nr 67380, this CF rod should be well glued and made more solid with the CF wire and CA glue. The tail motors wires must be made longer with the supplied cable extensions to support the longer body. Isolate the soldering with the supplied shrink tube. Now you can mount the Tuning engine G-310 with the 9-tooth pinion. For all the window and other cuts in the foam, a very sharp knife is supplied in the kit. Please use this with care. Proof hold the two body halves together and verify their fit. If necessary, you can use fine sandpaper to make small corrections. Warning! In order to become a perfect vertical aligned model, the chassis will be mounted at a 3.5° angle to the right. This way, the tail rotors torque, will be compensated and the model will float vertical aligned. The frames are for this reason NOT symmetrical and cannot be exchanged from right to left in Building phases 1 and 7 In the case you use a used an existing chassis The assembly Warning:

The left side frame is also marked with a printed “L”. Glue the main frame with UHU-Por in the left body site, perfectly aligned with the cut and the left side frame. If needed, use sandpaper to adjust the body main frame. Pay attention to the perfect 90° alignment on the long axis of the complete body. Now you can glue the main frame and directly remove the side frame. Tip: Do not let the glue dry for too long, this way, the parts position can be changed before the glue sets. Cut the plastic triangle. Adjust the half-round hole to fit around the tail boom. Do this carefully, a perfect fit will avoid a loose body put the triangle on the tail boom and the triangle should sit on the landings gear back legs. Then put the mechanics and triangle on the main frame. Align the mechanics this way that the rotor mast at the body- top hole, crosses on the centre line. This will give the angle (see photo). Mark the position of the triangle with a soft pencil. Take out the mechanics and glue the triangle with UHU-Por on the main frame. Now its time to install the cable for the tail motor. Use the sharp knife to make an shallow cut in the left body tail side, and push the cable in it. Make sure not to cut through the foam. Guide it in the middle at the far end of the tail. Put it through the small left hole in the main frame. The tail skid must be glued now with UHU-Por. Re-check the fit for the two body halves, especially at the main frame. Glue with UHU-Por together. Cut with the sharp knife along the line to separate the canopy and the body. Make sure to make a straight, clean cut, to avoid corrections afterwards. A small deviation is of no importance, since the two same halves mate together on assembly.

Arrange the tail box on the horizontal and longitudinal axis and glue with very little epoxy. Remount all tail box parts as described in the manual page 18 & 19 . Solder the wires to the tail motor . Warning : The blue wire must be fixed at the + marked pole. Now It's time to mount the landing gear. Cut the 4 skid connection dowels, 4 x 10 mm and glue them to the end of the cross bar. There should be a 3mm protrusion Now insert the cross bar onto the skids . Put the complete undercarriage on a perfect flat surface, and align the cross bars with the slots in the bottom of the fuselage. Glue the skid parts together with CA. Cut the 4 skid-end parts from the clear plastic and glue them on both ends of the skids. Glue the undercarriage at the underside of the fuselage as shown on the picture. Insert a CF rod at the fin position mark and a second one 25mm further to the back . Fix both stabilisers with clear tape to the CF rods. They are removed for flight. Cut the Plastic windows and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Cut with the very sharp knife , the window holes in the fuselage , 1 or 2 mm smaller then the windows. Don't glue the windows yet if you want to paint the fuselage. Glue the six 15 X 15 x 3 mm squares in the fuselage as indicated on the picture above, to locate the front (canopy) half when joined together. Cut the hood interlock and glue both sides at the hood and the trunk that they smoothly snap together.

The horizontal tail wing will give negative influence on the

forward flight . The piccolo will become unstable on the pitch axis. Therefore we advise to remove the horizontal tail wing by pulling them gently apart and remove them from the tail. The included decoration stickers give two possible versions: You can colour the white fuselage with Red/Blue stripes and signs or paint it in dark army green to become the SAR ( search and rescue ) version . All water based paints which don't attack the used foam , can be used . Use scrap parts to do some tests. Ideal are the paintbrush colours, which are very fluid and can be applied very thin with small weight surplus. In general, the total weight should be surveyed during the paint job to get the AUW as low as possible. Be careful to use light sticking masking tape to avoid damage to the fuselage's body skin. Post-it are ideal for this job. To finish the model, you'll have to cut the engine exhaust nozzle from the clear plastic, colour it black ( you can use a Dry marker ) and glue it in. Also the windows can be glued now. Put some UHU-Por glue on the 1 or 2 mm window frame of the fuselage (not on the windows themselves) and put the windows in the frames from the outside. Put the mechanics in the fuselage and secure them with the grommets on the CF rod . Use a sharp needle to make a small hole to guide the antenna through the fuselage to the outside. Lay the battery in the fuselage, put the front canopy part on, and balance the model (as described in the piccolo manual on page 24) by shifting the battery. Mark the position of the battery and fix it with the velcro tape. With the supplied rotor blade holder, the rotor blades can be secured for transport .The holder is fixed to the fuselage with a rubber band
