RATE SELECTABLE G.SHDSL ETSI TERMINATION UNITS WORLDDSL G.S QUICK INSTALLATION

ETU-911A, ETU-912A, AND ETU-914A

The ADC® WorldDSL™ G.S ETU-911A, ETU-912A, and ETU-914A ETSI Termination Units (ETUs) are rate selectable Single-pair High-speed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL) cards housed in enclosures with rear-panel interface and power connectors for use as standalone desktop units. The SHDSL cards conform to ITU-T recommendation G.991.2 for SHDSL (referred to as G.SHDSL). Rate selectable G.SHDSL offers an extended transmission range and spectral compatibility with leading DSL technologies. Transmission ranges vary according to the data rate selected, wire size, and noise environment. At a data rate of 2.048 Mbps with noise, the reach is 2.4 km (1.4 mile) on 0.4 mm wire and 6.8 km (4.2 miles) on 8 mm wire. Reach is significantly greater at lower data rates in reduced noise environments. For details, see the UTU/ETU User Manual, LTPE-UM-3010-xx (which can be downloaded from the ADC website at www.adc.com). The ETUs can be configured as Line Termination Units (LTUs) or Network Termination Units (NTUs). The default configuration is NTU. The NTU-configured ETUs are installed at the customer site. LTU-configured Universal Terminations Units, UTU-911, UTU-912, and UTU-914, are installed in exchange office shelves. To complete the G.SHDSL transmission system, the UTUs and ETUs are interconnected over one pair of twisted-copper wire. The UTUs accept the exchange office payload at their G.703 or Nx64k port and transport the payload to the ETUs at the selected DSL data rate. The DSL data rate is determined by the number of 64 kbps time slots selected by the user. The UTUs and ETUs have a DSL data rate ranging either from 192 kbps to 2.048 Mbps (G.703) or from 192 kbps to 2.304 Mbps (Nx64k). The ETUs require a 50 or 60 Hz power source with a voltage range of 100 to 240 Vac. The ETUs include a power-fail circuit that triggers a user-configured alarm and reports same to the exchange office when an AC power failure occurs. APPLICATION INTERFACE The ETU-911A has an E1 G.703 interface that can be configured for an impedance of 75Ω unbalanced or 120Ω balanced. Data is structured or unstructured according to the G.704 framing standard and, optionally, CRC-4 multiframed according to the G.706 standard. The ETU-912A has an Nx64k serial dataport interface with user-selectable protocols that conform to the V.35, V.36, X.21, or RS-530 (RS-449) standards. The ETU-914A has both an E1 G.703 interface and an Nx64k interface, sharing the SHDSL bandwidth. Use of this product in a manner other than defined in this installation guide may cause damage to equipment or injury to personnel. Falls der Gebrauch von diesem Produkt nicht gemaess der Definition im Installations Handbuch eingehalten wird, besteht die Gefahr, dass Schaden am Geraet oder sogar Koerperverletzungen entstehen koennten.

G.703 SWITCH SETTINGS The rear-panel 120/75Ω Selector Switch must be set for 120Ω if using a 120Ω G.703 interface. The default setting is 75Ω. The settings for 75Ω and 120Ω operation are shown in Figure 1. Figure 1. ETU-911A and ETU-914A 120/75Ω G.703 Switch Settings ETU EARTH GROUND CONNECTION To connect the ETU chassis to earth ground: 1 On the ETU rear panel, remove the two hex nuts from the chassis ground lug. 2 Place the ground wire ring-terminal on the chassis ground lug. 3 Secure the ground wire to the ground lug with the two hex nuts removed in step 1. 4 Attach the other end of the ground wire to earth ground. CONTINUED The ETU chassis must be connected to earth ground for protection of the equipment and for personnel safety. Die Geraete Erdung des ETU muss via die Haupt-Erdung (Erdpotential) guarantiert werden, um das Geraet zu schuetzen und die Sicherheits des Personals zu gewaehrleisten. REAR-PANEL CABLE CONNECTIONS

Make the following rear-panel cable connections: 1 Connect the cable containing the SHDSL pair to the SHDSL line connector. 2 If the customer equipment uses 75Ω coaxial cable, connect the equipment's output cable to the 75Ω IN connector. Connect the equipment's input cable to the 75Ω OUT connector. 3 If the customer equipment uses 120Ω twisted-pair cable, connect the cable to the 120Ω\ALARM connector. 4 If the customer equipment uses an Nx64k serial interface (V.35, V.36, RS-449, RS-530, or X.21), connect its cable to the DATA PORT connector. 5 If using an external power-fail alarm, fabricate a cable that connects alarm-relay pins 5 (NC), 7 (NO), and 14 (C) of the ALARM connector to the external alarm (the ALARM connector is designated 120Ω\ALARM on ETU-911A and ETU-914A). DSL SELF TEST AND LINK UP The LTU-configured unit holds the configuration settings for both itself and the remote NTU-configured unit. As the two units synchronize, the LTU will configure the NTU. 1 Power up the SHDSL unit. 2 Confirm the following: • The red ALM LED is on and the green SYNC LED flashes once per second as the units self-configure and establish synchronization. • After approximately 60 seconds, the red ALM LED is off, and the SYNC LED is a steady green. The unit is now ready for configuration using the console screen menus displayed on a maintenance terminal at the exchange office. Other LED functions are described in Table 1. Primary protection for the SHDSL line must be provided by the user. Both primary and secondary protection must be provided by the user if the E1 line runs outside of the building.
