www.cobrausa-hd.com 04/17 ® 1 * Cobra® recommends you always wear a helmet while riding. Please never operate your motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Enjoy the new look of your motorcycle and please ride safely. Items Supplied > 1 - DETACHABLE BACKREST 2 - COIL-OVER SPACERS Application(s) > HARLEY: DRESSER 09-18 Instruction Manual > Read all instructions carefully and completely before installing your new Backrest! NOTE: You must install either a COBRA Mounting Kit (602-2100/602-2101) or a Harley Davidson 2- point or 4 point Mounting kit before installing this backrest. 1. Remove the saddle bags carefully. 2. Install the mounting kit per the instructions that came with that kit. 3. If you are installing this backrest on a 2015-16 Street Glide Special or a 2015-16 Road Glide Special with coil- over rear shocks you must first install the spacers supplied with the backrest between the right rear coil-over shock and the frame and swing arm. See FIGURE 1. This will space the coil-over out far enough for the backrest to fit properly. If your motorcycle is equipped with air shocks you do not need to install the spacers and can skip to step 8. SPECIAL NOTE: Some 2015 Street Glide Specials and Road Glide Specials came with the right rear coil-over shock mounted upside down with the shock shaft pointed up. Make sure to flip the shock over if this is the case. The shock shaft needs to be facing down as in FIGURE 1. 4. First, remove the top bolt of the right rear coil-over shock. See FIGURE 1. 5. Insert the supplied spacer between the frame and the coil-over shock and then re-install the bolt and tighten to factory specs. 6. Then remove the bottom bolt from the right rear coil-over shock and insert the supplied spacer between the coil- over and the swing arm. Re-install the bottom bolt and tighten to factory specifications. See FIGURE 1. 602-2000 Page 1 of 2 DOCUMENT NO. 0017 REV. Once the spacers have been installed on the right side coil-over (if applicable) and the mounting kit has been installed you can install the backrest by inserting the front portions of the backrest brackets over the mounting bosses of the rear shocks. See FIGURE 2. Make sure to insert the backrest all the way onto the bosses. 9. Then slowly rotate the backrest downward so the rear portion of the backrest brackets slips over the mounting kit bushings. See FIGURE 2. 10. If you are using a Harley Mounting Kit you may need to adjust the width of the mounting kit bushings to align them with the width of the backrest brackets. The Harley Mounting Kits come with spacers that may need to be added or removed to align the width of the mounting kit bushings with the width of the backrest. Please see the instructions that come with the mounting kit for more details. 11. Also, some Harley Mounting Kits come with oval shaped mounting bushings. These mounting bushings may need to be rotated around the center axis of the bushing to allow for a secure fit of the detachable latch pin. Please see the instructions of the mounting kit for more details. 12. Pull backward on both detachable latch knobs and then push downward on the backrest to allow the backrest to sit completely on the mounting kit bushings. Then release the detachable latch knob to fully engage the latch pin underneath the mounting kit bushing. See FIGURE 3. 13. Always check to make sure both detachable latch pins are fully engaged on the bottom of the mounting kit bushing. Failure to fully engage the detachable latch pin could cause the backrest to come loose while riding. 14. Make any adjustments to the mounting kit bushings until the detachable backrest goes on and off easily. 15. Once all the adjustments have been made reinstall the saddle bags. 16. Before each ride, check to make sure the detachable latches are fully engaged underneath the mounting bushings. 17. Check the tightness of all the screws after the first ride and after the first 500 miles. DOCUMENT NO. 0018 REV.
