- 9 - This device comprises sensitive components and must be treated with caution. Observe the storage and operating conditions described in the ’Technical Specifications’ section. DO NOT perform service or maintenance while the Thermometer is in use. While in use DO NOT touch the battery and the person at the same time. DO NOT use the Thermometer if it is damaged, degraded or loosened in any way. Continuous use of a damaged Thermometer may cause injury, improper results, or serious danger. Based on the current science and technology, other potential allergic reactions are unknown. This devise needs to be used and serviced in accordance with the information provided in this INSTRUCTION MANUAL. WARNINGS INTENDED USE The Infrared Body Thermometer, Model: HTD8216C, is an electronic clinical thermometer using an infrared sensor to detect body temperature from the forehead or auditory canal in people of all ages for home setting use. The Sunbeam Thermometer is a hand-held, reusable, battery operated device, which can measure human body temperature on the forehead and in the ear. It can also measure the surface temperature of objects. The operation principle is based on Infrared Sensor technology. The IR sensor can output different signals when measuring different object temperatures or in different ambient temperatures, and the ASIC can turn the signal from IR Sensor to a digital value and display it on the LCD. CONTRAINDICATIONS: 1. DO NOT measure areas on the forehead with scar tissue or tissue compromised by skin disorders as this can affect the measurement accuracy. 2. DO NOT measure temperature of persons in trauma. 3. DO NOT use if being treated with drug therapies that can increase the body temperature. 4. DO NOT measure temperature on sites of the skin exposed to external sources of heat or cold such as direct sunlight, fireplace heat, cold compress, air conditioner flow, etc.

- 29 - Guidance and manufacture’s declaration - Electromagnetic immunity The Infrared Body Thermometer is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment specified below. The customer or the user of Infrared Body Thermometer should assure that it is used in such an environment. Immunity test IEC 60601 test level Compliance level Electromagnetic environment – guidance NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people. a Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/ cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the Infrared Body Thermometer is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the Infrared Body Thermometer should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or relocating the Infrared Body Thermometer. b Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m. Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the Infrared Body Thermometer. The Infrared Body Thermometer is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the Infrared Body Thermometer can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the Infrared Body Thermometer as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment. Rated maximum output power of transmitter (W) Separation distance according to frequency of transmitter (m) 150 KHz to 80 MHz d= 1.2 80 MHz to 800 MHz d= 1.2 800 MHz to 2.5 GHz d= 2.3 0.01 0.12 0.12 0.23 0.1 0.38 0.38 0.73 1 1.2 1.2 2.3 10 3.8 3.8 7.3 100 12 12 23 For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distanced in metres (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer. - 31 - BODY TEMPERATURE For consumer use only, not for professional use. • Body temperature varies from person to person and fluctuates during the course of the day. For this reason, it is suggested to know one's normal, healthy forehead temperature to correctly determine the temperature. • Body temperature runs approximately from 95.9°F - 100°F • (35.5°C - 37.8°C). To determine if one has a fever, compare the temperature detected with the person's normal temperature. A rise over the reference body temperature of 1°F (1°C) or more is generally indication of fever. • Different measurement sites (rectal, axillary, oral, frontal, auricular) will give different readings. Therefore it is wrong to compare the measurement taken from different sites. • Here below are typical temperatures for adults, based on different measurement sites: Rectal: 97.9°F - 100.4°F / 36.6°C - 38°C - Axillary: 94.5°F - 99.1°F / 34.7°C - 37.3°C BODY TEMPERATURE ASTM laboratory accuracy requirements in the display range of 96.8°F - 102.2°F (36°C - 39°C) for IR thermometers is ±0.4°F (±0.2°C), whereas for mercury in-glass and electronic thermometers, the requirement per ASTM Standards E667-86 and E1112-86 is ±0.2°F (±0.1°C). Caution: This infrared thermometer meets requirements established in ASTM Standard (E1965-98) Except of clause 5.2.2. It displays subject’s temperature over a range of 93.2°F - 109.2°F (34.0°C - 42.9°C).
