3 Designated Use
The Micro OhmMeter RMO200D is designed for measuring contact resistances of non-inductive test objects
used in the electric power industry or similar branches. It is employed for resistance measurement during
manufacturing, commissioning and testing of:
power circuit breakers,
interrupters,
bar installation,
cable splices,
welded joints,
grounding.
Any other use of the RMO200D than the ones mentioned above is to be considered improper and will not
only invalidate all customer warranty claims but also exempt the manufacturer from its liability for repair or
exchange.
4 Functionality
4.1 Single Test
The RMO200D generates a filtered (true) DC current and outputs it in an automatically regulated current
ramp. The current increases with a constant slope from zero up to a set maximum value. When the current
has reached its maximum, RMO200D measures the resistance of the test object. After test the output
current ramps back down to zero with a constant slope. By sloping the current up and down, magnetic
transients are virtually eliminated.
4.2 Continuous Test
RMO200D can generate DC current continuously using the Contin menu. In this menu the current can be
chosen the same way like in the Single menu, but the duration of the test can be preset. The test is started
pressing the START button. By pushing Ω button current test result is stored in internal memory. During the
test, a new result is shown on the display and stored into the PC (DV Win) approximately each second.
Using DV Win the result can be printed like an Excel table which later can be shown as a diagram and used
for a report.
Test is completed when the test time previously set in the menu has elapsed, or when the STOP button is
pressed.
By pushing STOP button test could be performed at any time. In case of test interruption by pushing the
STOP button, the last measured result will remain saved in the internal memory.
Upon expiry of the selected test lasting time, the last result remains saved at selected memory location.
Note 1:
Choose test current so that for the expected resistance you have maximum value of it.
Note 2:
Using DV Win enables starting and controlling RMO200D from the PC. The results could be
stored to PC. Using DV Win after testings enables result transfer from the internal RMO200D
memory to PC.
Note 3:
At the start of the test (Single, Continuous and CC), a check of cables connection is done. In
case of disconnection, or erroneous polarity, an alarm is activated, and the error message is
shown on the display.
Voltage sense cables disconnection, occured during the test, will cause an erroreous result.
The display will not show this as an error message.
During tests the high continued DC current will heat up the test set. To prevent RMO200D
from overheating, duty cycles apply. The duty cycles depend on the used test current, please
refer to section "Duty Cycles".

representation of the output current that ramps from 0 A to the defined maximum value (here 200A).
Once the current ramp reaches its maximum value, RMO200D measures the current through the test object
and the voltage at the test object for 1s, calculates the resistance from these values, and saves the data at
the present memory position.
Afterwards, RMO200D ramps down the output current from the max. value to 0 A.
When 0 A is reached, the test is finished and the green LED lights up.
Note: To stop the test prematurely, press the STOP button at any time during the test. The current
will immediately drop to 0 A.
Continuous Test
Before a test could be started, test current, its duration and memory location must be defined using Contin
menu. Press ENTER to change to the Ready state.
The Ready state displays selected test current (here 100A), its duration (here 60 sec) and memory location
of the result (here Memory: 020). If one of these values has to be changed, press STOP button to return to
the Contin menu.

6.4 Connecting of current clamp meter and measuring with both sides grounded unit
Measurement procedure
Turn on RMO200D with the power switch on the test set. The display shows the Single menu. Go to CC
menu by pushing SET button twice or using RIGHT button four times, DOWN button, RIGHT button three
times and then DOWN button.
Define a test current through the circuit breaker (here 200A) and memory position (here Memory: 012). Once
these parameters are defined, press ENTER to change to the Ready state.
Using RMO200D with current clamp meter it is
possible to make safer measurement of breakers
with both sides of the breaker grounded.
Measuring the current through the ground
connection and reducing this value from the total
current is an additional safety feature.
When connecting current clamp meter pay
attention that current circuit of the current clamp
meter is enough far away form the rest of current
circuits. In that way electromagnetic interference is
prevented. Distance between current cables must
be more than 10 cm.
Figure 6-8:
The CC menu
Figure 6-9:
The Ready state
RMO200D Getting Started
Press the START button to run a test. Upon completed test at selected memory location the measured result
will remain registered. It is the current through circuit breaker (difference between total test current and
current through current clamp meter), contact resistance of circuit breaker and the time when test is
performed. When defined test current could not be reached, RMO200D displays maximum possible reached
current.
The accuracy of measured resistance in this menu is lower then accuracy in Single or Contin menu due to
accuracy of current clamp meter.
Connecting of current clamp meter
Connect cables of the current clamp meter to the appropriate input terminals of device. By pressing the side
button open the current clamp meters jaws and clamp one conductor only. The jaw must be firmly closed
around the conductor. Make sure that conductor is passed through middle of the hole of current clamp
meter. Make sure that the angle is 90 degrees between central axis of conductor and plane of hole of
current clamp meter. The red LED light continuously indicates that current clamp meter works correctly. In
case that red LED is blinking it is necessary to change the battery. Select current range of 1000A. The

The look of the DV-Win main menu is shown in the following illustration.
Now the RMO device can be controlled from the PC. The test mode is started by pressing icon “Start
new test”.
RMO200D DV-Win Software
DVWin-RMO interface consist of main menu, three tabs (Test info, Test settings, Download), status bar,
toolbar and a table used for displaying results.
7.4 Test info
Test info tab contains fields with information about circuit breaker under test, operator, and environment
conditions. I you are using the instrument for the first time, all fields will be blank and you will need to enter
these information. Once you save the measurement results these information are also saved. Test info tab
will be automatically populated when measurement results from .dwo (internal DV-Win file format) file are
loaded. Clear All button on this form will instantly clear all data written in test info fields.
Note: Test info fields don't need to be filled in order to do the testing with RMO devices.
7.5 Test settings
The test settings tab contains test parameters and it is used to start new test or to stop test in progress. This
section briefly describes test parameters functions.
Operation mode:
Single - selects Single operation mode. Test is performed for fixed period of time. User can only
select desired test current and memory position for test.
Continuous - selects Contin operation mode. Test is performed for up to 300 seconds. User can
select actual test duration, test current, memory position and interval for this test. Omega button is
available and visible only in this mode after the test is started.
CC - selects CC (Current Clamp) operation mode. This test allows using Current Clamps for testing.
Test Settings:
Test curent - this field is used to set the test current. Test current is limited by RMO technical
capabilities. Check your RMO manual for further information.
Test duration - this field sets the duration of test in seconds. Test duration can be set in Continuous
operation mode only. Single and CC operation modes are performed for fixed amount of time.
Memory position - determines the memory location where the results of performed test are saved.
Memory position counter is increased automatically after each test. Memory position can also be set
manually by user
RMO200D DV-Win Software
Interval - Interval field allows user to record test results in specific time intervals set in seconds. This
field is unlocked only for Continuous mode of operation. Default interval setting denotes that
measurement will be recorded only once when the test is completed.
OMEGA - This button performs function of the omega button on RMO instruments, ie. it records last
measurement on click. Omega button is available and visible only in Continuous mode of operation.
Use standard parameters - If checked, this checkbox allows user to use standard fixed discrete test
parameters previously used in older DV-Win software for RMO devices. If unchecked, user can
manually enter desired test values for Test current and Test duration fields. DV-Win RMO is
designed to automatically set safe test parameters, if user unintentionally inputs non-allowed test
parameter values, so no harm can be done to the RMO device.
7.6 Download
The download tab allows user to transfer recorded measurements from RMO Device to personal computer.
Download is initiated by pressing Start button and it can be stopped at any time by pressing Stop button.
During data transfer progress bar will indicate transfer progress. Measurements can be selectively
downloaded by specifying date, date range, memory positions, current range or by specifying test mode.
7.7 Rmax Settings
Rmax settings are available via Tools - Rmax Settings menu. Rmax function of RMO devices is used to
detect when specific circuit breaker resistance value is reached during measurement. If Rmax value is
detected, RMO device will automatically stop performed test. This function is unchecked by default settings.
RMO200D DV-Win Software
Rmax function is activated by checking Rmax function checkbox. Rmax value can be set in the range of 0 -
9999 microOhms. If Rmax value is detected, DV-Win RMO software will display notification in status bar and
RMO device will emit specific sound signal.
7.8 Measurement Units
Measurement units in DV-Win RMO software are available via Tools - Measurement units menu.
Resistance measurement values can be shown in: microOhms, miliOhms and Ohms.
Current measurement values can be shown in: miliAmpers and Ampers.
Voltage measurement values can be shown in: miliVolts and Volts.
Measurement results are automatically updated as selected in measurement units window.
7.9 Status Bar
Status bar is located above the measurement results and it is always visible to user. Status bar displays
current state of the RMO device. Depending of the current state status bar will signal one of the following:
Ready state:
Rmax detection:
Setting test parameters:

8 Remote Control
The RMO Remote Control Unit is an optional control unit that is used to start and stop the tests from a
remote location, away from the actual RMO.
Very often the same test current is fed through the test object for a series of tests. To simplify this and
speed up the process, multiple measurements can be carried out with the RMO Remote Control Unit.
Otherwise, the test current setting needs to be changed on the RMO for each new test.
8.1 Connecting the Remote Control Unit to RMO and Test Object
Turn off RMO and plug in the Remote
Control Unit to connector on the RMO‟s
front panel.
Connect the Remote Control Unit to the
test object (RX) in such a way that the
measuring cables from the "Voltage
Sense" sockets are situated as close as
possible to RX, and in between the current
feeding cables from RMO. That way, both
the cable‟s and the clamps‟ typical contact
resistance is largely excluded from the
resistance measurement.
Note:
Never connect the Remote Control Unit to any other device but RMO.

8.3 Measuring with the Remote Control Unit
Testing with the Remote Control Unit is much like the testing procedure with RMO itself, and is therefore
only outlined here:
– Connect the Remote Control Unit to RMO,
– Connect the Remote Control Unit to a test object,
– In the RMO Single menu, define a test parameters for the test, and press ENTER to change to
the Ready state,
– The flashing green LED indicate that RMO is now ready to start the test.
– Press the Ω/STOP button once more to start the test. While the test is running,
the green and red LED flash alternately. To stop the test prematurely, press
the Ω/STOP button once more.
Once the test is finished, RMO automatically changes to the Result menu to
display the test results. The green LED lights up continuously.
If an error occurred during the test, the red LED lights up continuously, and the display presents the
according error message.
Provided that, for a series of tests, the same test current is fed through the test
object, multiple tests can be carried out with the Remote Control Unit.
Simply press the Ω/STOP button again to repeat the procedure.
If different test parameters are required, set them on RMO directly, and start the
new test by pressing the Ω/STOP button again.
Sockets to connect the Remote Control Unit directly to a test
object "Voltage Sense +" and "Voltage Sense -"
Depending on the situation,
the Ω/STOP button has
varying functions:
• When the green LED
flashes a new test can
be started by pressing
this button
• When the green LED
lights continuously,
pressing this button will
prepare RMO for a new
test, using the test
parameters set on RMO.
• While a test is running
(the green and the red
LEDs flash alternately),
pressing this button
stops the test immediately.
The LEDs of the Remote
Control Unit function
synchronized with the ones
of RMO.
Green LED
• Flashes when a test can
be started.
• Flashes alternately with
the red LED during a test.
• Lights continuously when
a test is done.
Red LED
• Flashes alternately with
the green LED during a
test.
• Lights continuously in
case of operational error.
