The alarm buzzer will sound briefly and the POWER LED will begin glowing green indicating the power supply is supplying the load. TO TURN THE UNIT OFF: 1. Move the Power Switch to the OFF position and wait for the POWER LED to stop glowing. 2. Once all the LEDs are off, it is safe to disconnect the load and power source from the power supply. 3. Move the Power Switch back to the ON position while disconnected from the power source to discharge the internal capacitors. 4. After 30 seconds, move the Power Switch back to the OFF position. The unit can now be safely serviced or put into storage.

Mount the unit in a WELL VENTILATED location. Allow at

least 1 inch (2.54 cm) of clearance surrounding the unit for adequate cooling. The PWS1005W is designed to meet IP66 rating, and is resistant to water spray from any direction. These units can be mounted in wet locations but are not suitable for submersion. WARNING: TO PREVENT THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, NEVER DISCONNECT THE INPUT OR OUTPUT WHILE THE UNIT IS ENERGIZED. Installation DC OUTPUT CONNECTION This unit is equipped with two 8AWG TEW-type stranded leads terminating bare copper. The wiring for this connection can be found on the units front panel label and is as follows: Wire color Polarity Black AC Live/Hot Gray AC Neutral Green/Yellow AC Ground Wire color Polarity Black DC Output Negative Red DC Output Positive This unit’s maximum continuous output current is 40A. When connecting devices to the power supply, ensure total connected load is less than 40A and that the wiring used is rated for this current. *This unit shown with the Portable Option AC INPUT CONNECTION This unit is equipped with a 3.05m/10.00ft 3x14AWG power cord ending in a NEMA 5-15 compatible plug suitable for connection to any typical North American AC Mains outlet. If you need to hard-wire this connection, cut the plug off the cord and strip the wires inside, the wiring for this cord as follows: CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE LOAD IN THE REVERSE POLARITY!! This will activate the reverse connection protection which will blow the output fuses inside the unit in order to protect the device. The unit will be inoperable until these fuses have been replaced.

Output Fuse Replacement

The power supply is protected from damage by reverse polarity connection by output fuses. If the load is connected to the unit in the wrong polarity, the output fuse(s) will blow to protect the power supply. Afterwards, the fuses must be replaced for normal unit operation. See the specifications section for rating and make fuses. All the output fuses must be replaced as they operate in parallel to add up to the full output current capability of the power supply. CAUTION: BEFORE REPLACING THE FUSES, DISCONNECT OR TURN OFF THE AC POWER TO THE POWER SUPPLY AND DISCONNECT IT FROM THE LOAD. When connecting the load to the unit a small arc can form between the connectors. To ensure spark-free connections, make connections only when the power switch is OFF. TO REPLACE THE FUSES 1. Loosen and remove the ten (10) screws holding the front panel to the unit chassis. 2. Gently wiggle the front panel to unplug it from the main circuit board. The output fuses are mounted in fuse holders close to the output cable or connector. 3. Remove and replace them all with the same style and current rating. 4. Gently push the front panel connector back onto the main circuit board, ensuring that any O-Ring or gasket remains properly seated. This is particularly important for W and Y models to ensure a water-tight seal! 5. Carefully re-insert all the front panel screws loosely, making sure non are cross threaded. Once all screws are started, tighten them in sequence. These screws are made from corrosion resistant stainless steel and are softer that regular steel screws, so take care to not over- tighten. 6. Reconnect AC power to the unit and ensure that it turns ON. Carefully recheck the polarity of the output connections and then reconnect the load to the power supply. Normal operation should resume immediately. Pictured: Front panel circuit board. Output fuse location indicated by red circle.

This unit is fitted with 5 LED indicators and an alarm buzzer to display and diagnose any

malfunctions. In the event of a malfunction, the unit will sound the buzzer to alert you before shutting itself down. You should then immediately check which LEDs are glowing to determine the cause of the alarm. LED Indicator Meaning OVERTEMP The power supply’s internal temperature is too high for safe operation. Fix: The power supply will shut down until it cools sufficiently. If this happens repeatedly, you may need to remount the power supply for better ventilation and cooling. Disconnecting some connected devices to reduce the load on the power supply may also help. OVERLOAD The load is drawing too much current from the power supply. Fix: The unit is operating above its peak output current for too long of a time. Disconnect some of the connected devices to reduce the load on the power supply. Check that the combined load of each device connected to the power supply does not exceed the unit’s continuous output current. See Specifications for more details. UNDER V. INPUT The AC input voltage is too low for proper operation. Fix: Check that the AC power source is a proper voltage rating for the power supply. Check that the input wiring and connectors are free of damage and corrosion. If all the above is in proper working order, the cause is likely an internal component failure and the unit must be returned to an authorized service center for repair. UNDER V. OUTPUT The power supply’s output voltage is too low for proper operation. Fix: The output current may be exceeding the unit’s maximum rating causing the output voltage to drop to maintain the current at that level. Check that the current is not excessive and the OVERLOAD LED isn’t glowing. If it is, reduce the load on the power supply. Check that the output wiring and connectors are free of damage and corrosion. If all the above is in proper working order, the cause is likely an internal component failure and the unit must be returned to an authorized service center for repair. Troubleshooting

In normal operation, the DC

output supplies the load and an internal 1 amp trickle charger. The trickle charger maintains the connected battery at full charge until needed. The current flow in this operating condition indicated in RED. In the event of power failure, the load instantly begins drawing from the battery as power source, running until either the battery is fully discharged or the unit goes into low voltage shutdown. The configuration of the schottky diodes on the battery output line prevents current from backfeeding into the unit. The current flow in this operating condition is indicated in BLUE. Battery Backup Option NOTE: The diagrams below show the voltages for a 24V system, but this option is available for every standard output voltage model. 27.2V 1A Charger In Out Main PCB DC Output 28V Batt - Batt + OP - OP + 24V Battery To Load The Battery Backup Option allows you to connect a battery to the output of your unit to serve as a backup power source in the event of power failure. The Battery Backup circuit is designed so the diodes are reversed biased in normal operation and forward biased in event of power failure. Basically, whichever source (the battery or the DC Output) has the higher voltage will take precedence in supplying power to the load. To set up the Battery Backup: 1. Connect the Load to the output terminals labelled OP+ and OP- 2. Connect the Battery to the output terminals labelled Batt+ and Batt- Normal Operation WARNING: Do not connect a battery to the unit’s output unless it has the Battery Backup Option. This will cause serious damage to the unit and is not covered by the Warranty. 27.2V 1A Charger In Out Main PCB DC Output 0V Batt - Batt + OP - OP + To Load 24V Battery Output Failure

Load Sharing Option

The Load Sharing Option allows you to connect two or more units in parallel, allowing them to share in supplying current to the load(s). Connecting units together this way has many advantages, it reduces stress on each individual power supply and in addition, the load can draw greater current than from a single unit. Units built with this option are equipped with special output isolation diodes on the output terminals. You can check if your unit has these diodes by using an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the two positive output terminals. • If the diodes are present, the terminals will measure as not connected. • If the diodes are NOT present, the terminals will measure as a short circuit. To set up load sharing: 1. Connect a length of #12 AWG RED wire to each positive output terminal of each unit. 2. Connect all the positive wires to a distribution bus or join them together at a common point. 3. Connect the distribution bus or common point to the load using an appropriate gauge of wire for the total output current capability of all the supplies running in parallel. 4. Repeat Steps 1-3 for the negative output terminals using the same gauges of BLACK wire. 5. The units should now load share. 6. You can confirm this by checking the output terminals using an ammeter or or by checking the integrated voltmeter/ammeter if the unit is built with that option. Unit #1 Unit #2 TIP: The Output Voltage Adjust can also be used to adjust the output current. A slight difference in the output current between the units is negligible. However, if this isn’t the case, the current can be adjusted using the Output Voltage Adjust potentiometer. Increasing the output voltage decreases the output current and vice versa.
