Connection
*1 : Do not connect any output video signal supplied form VIDEO OUT of other VTRs, to REF IN of the VSR-2000A. Such connection
causes phase shift depending on the operating mode of VTR which can result in incorrect operation of the VSR-2000A.
2.
Operating Environment
The BZSR-2000 requires the IBM PC/AT compatible personal computer having the following functions.
OS:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
CPU:
Pentium 600 MHz or more (Or compatible microprocessor)
Memory:
RAM of 256 MB or more
HDD capacity:
Blank space of 5 MB or more
(Required HDD capacity changes depending on the number of lists.)
Display:
1024 x 768, high color (16 bits) or more is recommended.
(Screen with 800 x 680, 256 colors has partly difficulty to display the contents.)
Regarding the font size, be sure to select the smaller font.
Drive:
CD-ROM drive
(CD-ROM drive is required to read Operating Instructions during installation.)
Network:
Network card (If you use the networking function)
Operation with 100BASE-TX only is guaranteed.
Connection method: Connecting using LAN TCP/IP (Windows Socket 2.0)
Others:
RS-232C port
n
Energy-saving mode
Do not operate the system in the energy-saving mode. It may cause troubles such as stopping of on-air
transmission.

Connection
*1 : Set the reference of the VTR to external SD. Connect the NTSC signal that is the same signal as what is connected to REF IN of the
VSR-2000A, to EXT REF IN SD.
. Regarding the HD system, this system supports only the 1080/59.94i format. In this case, use the VSR-
2000A in the NTSC mode. (The VSR-2000A does not support the HD signal in the PAL mode.)
n
To transfer materials between the VSR-2000 and the VSR-2000A, both of the VSR-2000 and the VSR-
2000A must be upgraded to the same version of firmware.
If materials are transferred without upgrading, the materials may not be played back correctly.
For details of firmware upgrade, refer to Service Manual of the VSR-2000/2000A.

1-13. HDD Physical Format and Logical Format
For details of formatting, refer to the Operation Manual recorded in the CD-ROM of the BZSR-2000
Sample version.
1.
Perform the physical formatting from the BZSR-2000.
m
. It takes approximately 30 minutes (when 73 GB HDD is installed) to complete the physical format-
ting. Do not reset during the physical formatting. Also, do not turn off the main power during the
physical formatting.
. When physical formatting is completed, confirm that the HDD state is normal. When an error
occurs, format again. If an error occurs again, replace the HDD or contact your local Sony Sales
Office/Service Center.
2.
Upon completion of physical formatting, execute the logical formatting.
m
. Be careful not to make mistake in selecting either NTSC or PAL mode that must suit to your
operating environment when starting the logical formatting.
. If you have changed the mode from NTSC to PAL mode or vice versa, be sure to execute the
logical formatting.
n
Executing the physical/logical formatting clears all of the previously recorded data.

A filter is attached on the rear of the front panel assembly
of the VSR-2000A.
Accumulation of dirt on the filter blocks ventilation will be
cause of the heat to build up inside the unit. This may
cause trouble to assure full performance of the VSR-
2000A.
Therefore periodic cleaning of the filter is recommended.
n
For details of filter replacement, refer to VSR-2000/2000A
Service Manual.
Cleaning
1.
Remove the front panel assembly.
(Refer to Section 1-7.)
2.
Remove the filter from the front panel assembly.
3.
Vacuum the dust accumulated on the filter with a
vacuum cleaner.
4.
Install the filter and front panel assembly by reversing
the disassembling procedure. (Refer to Section 1-7.)

Circuit Protection Device
The circuit protection device (positive thermistor) is
mounted on the MB-755A board.
If overcurrent flows through the circuit when the power is
provided from the switching regulator to each HDD unit,
or the ambient temperature of the device rises, the internal
resistance of the device will increase suddenly. This limits
the current flowing through the circuit.
When the circuit protection device operates, turn off the
power and check the circuit to eliminate the cause of the
overcurrent. After waiting for the device to cool off, turn
on the power again. The circuit protection device will be
reset automatically.

Fan Motor Replacement
If the fan motor is found to have any abnormality from the
SYSTEM LED indicator (red) that turns on in red or from
an error message of the BZSR-2000, replace the fan motor
unit or replace the defective fan motor.
This section describes how to replace the fan motor unit.
For details on how to replace the fan motor, refer to the
VSR-2000/2000A Service Manual.
Replacing the fan motor unit
The periodic replacement of the fan motor unit is recom-
mended.
The fan motor unit can be replaced while the main power
is being supplied to the unit.
m
When the fan motor unit is replaced while the main power
is turned on, be careful of the following items.
. Be sure to put on the earth-band to ground the unit
against electrostatic shock.
Replacing the fan motor unit without earth-band could
cause wrong operation.
. Be careful not to subject the fan motor unit to shock.
. Replace the fan motor unit in about one minute or
shorter as much as possible to ensure air cooling effects.

This section describes the procedure of upgrading the
VSR-2000 to the VSR-2000A using the upgrade kit
BKSR-U2000.
Upgrade kit (BKSR-U2000)
It consists of the following components:
1.
SY-302 board
1 pc
2.
PU-122 board
1 pc
3.
IF-833 board
5 pcs
4.
Front panel assembly

m
. Upgrading the VSR-2000 to the VSR-2000A finally
requires logical formatting of HDD because the file
format needs to be changed.
Because executing the logical formatting clears all of the
previously recorded data, save the material data that you
want to use in future, in any other VSR-2000/2000A or
in a storage media of your personal computer tentatively
before starting upgrading.
Returning the material data that you have saved in other
VSR-2000/2000A or a storage media of your personal
computer, back to the VSR-2000A upon completion of
upgrade, enables you to use the material data again.
. To use the clip transfer function and the archive function
of the BZSR-2000, refer to Operating Instructions
available in the Trial version CD-ROM supplied with the
system.
. When the VSR-2000 is kept installed in a rack, the
upgrade work is difficult. Uninstall the VSR-2000 from
a rack once and perform the upgrade work in a stable
location with sufficient space.
. Be sure to take an appropriate preventive measure fro
static electricity such as putting on the earth wristband
that is connected to ground before starting removal and
installation of a hard disk and/or circuit board.
. This section describes the upgrade work on the premise
that the upgrade work is done by system engineer or
service engineer.
