3. System Description

The KP100G converts DC power obtained from solar modules into the AC power that is used in homes and businesses, and enables interconnection with the utility grid. This makes it possible to purchase power from the utility during periods when the load is high, and to sell power to the utility during periods when the load is low. (Please note that a contract must be concluded with the utility for this purchasing and selling transaction.) The system configuration of the KP100G is shown in Fig, 3-1. Fig, 3-1 System configuration of KP100G MPP (Maximum Power Point) Trackers Three pairs of positive and negative DC input channels are connected to three sets of MPP Trackers. DC Bus The three sets of MPP Trackers store DC power via the DC/DC boost converter to the DC bus DC/AC Inverter The DC bus is connected to the DC/AC inverter, which converts DC power to AC power Main and Redundant Relays The two relays, RLY1 and RLY2, control the connection of the inverter to grid via the main and redundant controllers. Output Lines Three output lines (L1, L2, and L3) represent the three-phase AC power transmission to grid. Other Main Components The EMI Filter, GFCI, System Power Supply, Riso, Interface, and Display are included. The output power of the PV array varies depending on the intensity of the incident light and the temperature of the modules. In order to use the unstable

output of solar modules efficiently, the KP100G searches for the operating voltage that will produce the maximum output while it converts the DC input voltage. The KP100G has three MPP trackers. The topology of the MPP Trackers is mainly a boost converter. Each boost converter steps up the DC input voltage to a higher DC BUS voltage. User can connect differently-aligned string as three MPP trackers operate independently as illustrated in Fig, 3-2. This construction achieves high power generation and flexible sizing of PV string. Fig, 3-2 Connection of differently-aligned string Disconnecting from the Grid (ENS) (Einrichtungen zur Netzueberwachung mit jeweils zugeordnetem Schaltorgen) When the utility disconnects part of its grid for maintenance, repairs, etc., it is necessary to ensure that the personnel working there are not in danger of being injured. For this purpose, a new safety concept was added to the VDEW regulations proposed by Berufsgenossenschaft fuer Feinmechanik und Elektrotechnik (German Employee Association of Precision Mechanics and Electronics Engineering). The KP100G-OD-DE is designed exclusively for grid-connected operation. It is equipped with a fully independent disconnection device to ensure safe and complete breaking, and to prevent islanding operation, when the grid is disconnected. This independent disconnection device is comprised of two ENS units connected in series for safety. Each of the ENS units checks the frequency, voltage, in order to provide constant monitoring of the grid. A redundant circuit and auto-diagnosis when each system is started further improves the reliability of the disconnection function. Input specifications: a) DC input voltage range: 200 to 800VDC b) MPPT voltage range: 300 to 800VDC Input limitations: a) Maximum input open-circuit voltage: 800VDC b) Maximum input current per Tracker: 13ADC MPP tracker controls not to exceed 13ADC. c) Maximum input power per Tracker: 5,500W MPP tracker controls not to exceed 5500W. Wiring the KP100G to the Solar Modules

First make sure the maximum open circuit voltage Voc of each PV string is below 800VDC under any condition. Always connect PV-Panel positive (+) terminal to PV-Inverter DC positive (+) terminal, and the PV-Panel negative (-) terminal to PV-Inverter DC negative (-) terminal. KP100G has 3 MPPT trackers. Usually PV-Panels are connected to 3 DC terminals as illustrated in Fig, 5-35(a). Each set of PV-Inverter DC terminals takes a maximum DC input of 13A. As a result, 3 pairs of PV-Inverter DC terminals can take a combined input of up to 39A. Maximum PV input power for each tracker is 5,500W. One PV-panel can be connected to 3 DC input as illustrated in Fig, 5-35(b) . To fully optimize the PV output set-up, use the following configuration guidelines: (a) For PV output less than 13A, use a single pair of PV-Inverter DC terminals. (b) For PV output between 13A and 26A, use two sets of inverter DC terminals. (C) For PV output between 26A and 39A, use three sets of inverter DC terminals. Avoid making physical contact with live parts of the device. --- 2 Connect the PV- panels After the PV-Panels are connected to the PV-Inverter, the output voltage is greater than 200VDC and the AC grid is not connected to the inverter, the Data Logger LCD displays. 35 Step 1: Check the connection between your PV-Inverter and AC Connection System. And then check the connection between the Public Utility and AC Connection unit. Close the AC breaker or fuse in the unit. 28 Step 2 Measure the time until operation resumes. (The power-ON delay time varies depending on the country. Refer to Table 5-5) 30 3 Power-ON delay time for grid-connected operation (See Note 1.) Step 3 Confirm that the Data Logger LCD displays the status “Normal” and that the KP100G performs the grid-connected operation. The PV-Inverter is feeding power to the grid, and the green LED displays. 34 4 Confirm the wattmeter The Wattmeter installed to count the injected electricity should work while the inverter displays that electricity is being injected. - Note 1 : The power -ON delay time is the time that it takes for the KP100G to resume operation after the power supply of the supply side has been restored following an error, such as a power interruption. The remaining seconds are counted down on the display during the power-ON delay time. 6. The setting in the case of particular countries

The setting in Italy (KP100G-OD-IT) Auto Test The inverter is supplied with an auto-test function which enables the user to verify the correct operation of the protection interface. In order to select this function press the “ / ” button until the message "AUTO TEST" appears on the display panel. Press and hold the “OK” button for at least 5 second, to initiate the auto-test procedure. The first check to be made is the upper voltage threshold. The display panel will show “V↑ 276V ≤ 0.1S”, which is the value set for the upper voltage threshold and the maximum delay admitted before the protection intervenes. The display will show the variation of the upper voltage threshold and the voltage value of the mains supply as measured by the micro-controller. If the value of the threshold and the mains supply voltage are equal the inverter will switch to the “fault” status, by doing so the inverter will disconnect from the grid and the display panel will show for example a message similar to “T OK 233V -78ms”. This means that the threshold voltage and the measured mains supply voltage have become equal at 233V and the switching time is 78 milliseconds. By pressing the “OK” button again the display panel will show the lower voltage threshold check. The display will show a message similar to “V↓ 185V ≤ 0.2S”, which is the value set for the lower voltage threshold and the maximum delay admitted before the protection intervenes. By pressing the button once again, the display will show the variation of the lower voltage threshold and the voltage value of the mains supply as measured by the micro-controller. If the value of the threshold and the mains supply voltage are equal the inverter will switch to the “fault” status, by doing so the inverter will disconnect from the grid and the display panel will show for example a message similar to “T OK 233V -53ms”. This means that the threshold voltage and the measured mains supply voltage have become equal at 232V and the switching time is 53 milliseconds. By pressing the “OK” button again the display panel will show the upper frequency threshold check. The display will show a message similar to “f↑ 50.2Hz ≤ 0.06s”, which is the value set for the upper frequency threshold and the maximum delay admitted before the protection intervenes (in reality the display would not show this value, as the 0.06s step (3 cycles) has only been shown as the protection is not sensitive to the frequency variations less than 40ms (two cycles)). By pressing the button once again, the display will show the variation of the upper frequency threshold and the frequency value of the mains supply as measured by the micro-controller. If the value of the threshold and the mains supply frequency are equal the inverter will switch to the “fault” status, by doing so the inverter will disconnect from the grid and the display panel will show for example a message similar to “T OK 49.95Hz -48ms”. This means that the threshold and the measured mains supply frequency have become equal at 49.95Hz and the switching time is 48 milliseconds.

By pressing the “OK” button again the display panel will show the lower frequency threshold check. The display will show a message similar to “f↓

49.7Hz ≤ 0.06s”, which is the value set for the lower frequency threshold and the maximum delay admitted before the protection intervenes (in reality the display would not show this value, as the 0.06s step (3 cycles) has only been shown as the protection is not sensitive to the frequency variations less than 40ms (two cycles)). By pressing the button once again, the display will show the variation of the lower frequency threshold and the frequency value of the mains supply as measured by the micro-controller. If the value of the threshold and the mains supply frequency are equal the inverter will switch to the “fault” status, by doing so the inverter will disconnect from the grid and the display panel will show for example a message similar to “T OK 50Hz -60ms”. This means that the threshold and the measured mains supply frequency have become equal at 50Hz and the switching time is 60 milliseconds. The “AUTO TEST” function is considered successful once all the previous 4 tests have been performed: in this case the message "TEST PASSED" will appear on the display panel. By pressing the “OK” button, the inverter will switch to the normal operation mode (only if the mains supply is with the specified tolerances). If one of the previous 4 tests fail, the display shows the message "AUTO TEST FAILED" and the inverter will permanently switch to the “fault condition”. In this case contact the customer service center in order to return the inverter normal operation.
