Casing
Unit casing is constructed of zinc coated, heavy gauge, and galvanized steel. Exterior surfaces
shall be cleaned, G90 galvanized heavy gauge plate conforming to ASTM A653, followed by
baked on electrostatic polyester dry powder coat paint on all external panels, completely
weatherized for outdoor installation and properly reinforced and brazed. Salt spray test for steel
sheet under 1,000 hours, specially treated can be up to 2,000 hours and even more (It should
be customized.). Cabinet construction allows for all maintenance on one side of the unit.
Service panels are removed easily and re-installed by removing screws.
Compressor
All the outdoor units have single totally enclosed hermetically scroll compressor - Copeland.
The compressors have internal overload relay. High pressure switch, low pressure switch and
discharge temperature sensor is standard.
Condenser
Internally finned, copper tubes mechanically bonded to a configured hydrophilic aluminum fin
shall be standard. Coils are leak tested at the factory to ensure the pressure integrity. The
condenser coil is already leak tested to 3,100kPa (450 psig). Anti-corrosion treatment for coils is
optional.
Outdoor fan
The fan is direct driven by weather proof motor (IP44 and insulation class F) to ensure reliable
continuous operation. Statically and dynamically balanced drive motor design with maintenance
– free bearing for outdoor installation. The fan is multi-blade vane-axial type, made of metal
material for quiet operation and durability.
Electrical control box
In the electrical control box with the PCB board, wiring internal to the unit shall be colored and
numbered for simplified identification. The PCB parts can be coated with double-side moisture
proof paint, and the outer side of electric box metal cover is spray-painted (It should be

Notes:
✓ The maximum length of interconnecting line is 54.86m.
✓ Always use the shortest length possible with a minimum number of bends.
✓ Excessively long refrigerant lines cause loss of air conditioner capacity.
✓ Keep the vertical lift to a minimum. Use the following guidelines when installing the unit:
✓ 1. Do not exceed the vertical lift as indicated on the table.
✓ 2. It is recommended to use the smallest liquid line size permitted to minimize system charge
which will maximize compressor reliability.
✓ 3. The above table may be used for sizing horizontal runs.
✓ 4. Do not exceed 45.72m maximum vertical separation.
✓ It is suggested to install oil return bend per ten meters.
Indoor unit pipe connection:
✓ Keep the coil connections sealed until refrigerant connections are made.
✓ Indoor coil is shipped with No charge. Evacuate the system before charging with refrigerant.
✓ Install refrigerant tubing so that it does not block service access to the front of the unit.
✓ Nitrogen should flow through the refrigerant lines while brazing.
✓ Use a brazing shield to protect the cabinet’s paint and a wet rag to protect the rubber grommet
from being damaged by torch flames.
SHINKO- 4/5 ton High Efficiency A5 Duct Technical Manual
38
✓ After the refrigerant connections are made, seal the gap around the connections with pressure
sensitive gasket.
✓ Be sure to cover all the exposed parts of the flare pipe joints and refrigerant pipe on the liquid-side
and the gas-side with insulating materials. Ensure that there is no gap between them. Incomplete
insulation may cause water condensation.
Outdoor unit pipe connection:
✓ Notes: Never attempt to repair any brazed connections while the system is under pressure.
Personal injury could result.
✓ Remove the cap and Schrader core from both the liquid and suction service valve service ports at
the outdoor unit. Connect low pressure nitrogen to the liquid line service port.
✓ Braze the liquid line to the liquid valve at the outdoor unit. Be sure to wrap the valve body with a
wet rag. Allow the nitrogen to continue flowing. Refer to the refrigerant pipe size list for proper
liquid line sizing.
✓ Carefully remove the rubber plugs from the evaporator liquid and suction connections at the
indoor coil.
✓ Braze the liquid line to the evaporator liquid connection. Nitrogen should be flowing through the
evaporator coil.
✓ Slide the plastic cap away from the suction connection at the indoor coil. Braze the suction line to
the evaporator suction connection.
✓ Protect the suction valve with a wet rag and braze the suction line connection to the outdoor unit.
The nitrogen flow should be exiting the system from the suction service port connection. After this
connection has cooled, remove the nitrogen source from the liquid fitting service port.
✓ Replace the Schrader core in the liquid and suction valves.
✓ Leak test all refrigerant piping connections including the service port flare caps to be sure they are
leak tight.
SHINKO-4/5 ton High Efficiency A5 Duct Technical Manual
39
✓ Do not over tighten; it should be between 40 and 60 inch – lbs. maximum.
✓ Evacuate the suction line, evaporator, and the liquid line, to 350 microns or less.
✓ Replace cap on service ports. Do not remove the flare caps from the service ports except when
necessary for servicing the system.
✓ Release the refrigerant charge into the system. Open both the liquid and suction valves by
removing the plunger cap and with an hex wrench back out counter-clockwise until valve stem just
touches the chamfered retaining wall.
✓ Replace plunger cap finger tight, then tighten an additional 1/12 turn (1/2 hex flat).
✓ Cap must be replaced to prevent leaks.
✓ Install the lines with as few bends as possible. Care must be taken not to damage the coupling or
kink the tubing. Use clean hard drawn copper tubing where no appreciable amount bending
around obstruction is necessary, if soft copper must be used, care must be taken to avoid sharp
bends which may cause a restriction.
✓ The refrigerant pipe cannot obstruct service access to the condenser, air handling system or filter.
✓ Care must also be taken to isolate the refrigerant pipes to minimize noise transmission from the
unit the structure.
✓ The suction line must be insulated. Tape and suspend the refrigerant lines as shown in following
figure. Do not allow tube metal-to-metal contact.
SHINKO- 4/5 ton High Efficiency A5 Duct Technical Manual
40
✓ Use PVC piping as a conduit for all underground installations. Buried lines should be kept as short
as possible to minimize the buildup of liquid refrigerant in the suction line during long periods of
shutdown.
✓ Pack a sealing material such as perma gum around refrigerant lines where they penetrate a wall
to reduce vibration and to retain some flexibility.
Vacuum
✓ It will be necessary to evacuate the system to 350 microns or less.
✓ If a leak is suspected, leak test with dry nitrogen to locate the leak.
✓ Repair the leak and test again.
✓ To verify that the system has no leaks, simply close the valve to the vacuum pump suction to
isolate the pump and hold the system under vacuum. Watch the micron gauge for a few minutes.
If the micron gauge indicates a steady and continuous rise, it is an indication of a leak. If the
gauge shows a rise, then levels off after a few minutes and remains fairly constant, its an
indication that the system is leak free but still contains moisture and may require further
evacuation if the reading is above 350 microns.
After vacuum, according to the diameter and length of the connective pipe of liquid side between the
indoor unit and outdoor unit, calculate the refrigerant replenishment quantity. The refrigerant for
replenishment is R410A.
Diameter of liquid-side pipe
Quantity of refrigerant replenished for 1m pipe length
Φ9.52mm
0.0555kg
Notes:
Please check and record the replenished quantity of the air conditioner.
5. Heat Insulation of Refrigerant Pipe
In order to prevent faults caused by condensate of the refrigerant pipe and drain pipe, perform
SHINKO-4/5 ton High Efficiency A5 Duct Technical Manual
41
condensate prevention and heat insulation properly. If it is forecast that high humidity and
temperature environment (Condensate temperature is over 23°C) may exist in the ceiling, e.g., inside
the ceiling with slab, ceiling which is in the same environment as the outdoor air. It is necessary to
apply 10mm or thicker adiabatic wool (16~20kg/m2) to the refrigerant pipe and the drain pipe in
addition to applying the general heat insulation materials. Enough heat insulation materials should
also be applied to the refrigerant joint and the pipe joint.
Notes: The heat insulation of drain pipe refers to the installation of indoor unit.
Please use heat-resistant materials as heat insulation material of the air-side pipe. (e.g., EPT)
Cover heat insulation materials separately at the liquid side and the air side. Moreover, perform heat
insulation thoroughly for the air-side pipes of the indoor unit, and prevent water from dripping outside
the unit.
After applying the auxiliary heat insulation materials, use vinyl resin tape to seal refrigerant pipe and
drainage pipe to prevent water leak.
