Text of the manual
This slot reader supports PC/AT, XT, notebooks and Macintosh computers.
It can read most popular bar codes like Code 39, UPC/EAN, Interleaved 2 of
5, Standard 2 of 5, Code 128, Codabar, MSI, Code 11, Code 93, etc.
Setup of the reader can be done in two ways:
•
Through keyboard of a desktop PC/AT machine.
•
Or use custom labels (batch setup).
Installation:
The picture below shows how to connect the reader to a computer. Follow the
procedures for installation:
1. Turn off computer power.
2. Unplug keyboard from computer. Plug the reader to computer’s
keyboard port and keyboard to the reader.
3. Turn on power. One long beep from the reader indicates successful
power-up.
MS140
The default device ID of the reader is set to PC/AT. If your computer is not a
PC/AT, please do the setup on a PC/AT machine first to select a correct device
ID. The device ID “06” (Keyboardless) is for notebook computers.
Setup
The reader’s behavior can be changed through a setup routine in the reader.
Setup can only be performed on a PC/AT computer under DOS
environment. After typing “COPY CON NUL” command under DOS
prompt, there are two ways to enter setup:
•
Swipe “Enter Setup” bar code label located on the cover page of this
manual.
•
Or press left SHIFT and right SHIFT keys at the same time within about
20 keystrokes after computer power up.
The second method applies when the reader has device ID set to PC/AT
interface already. If you have this manual handy, the first method is preferred.
When the reader enters the setup mode, a selection menu will be displayed on
the screen like,
Use numerical keys on the top of alphabetic keys for digit input.

Follow the prompting and make your selections accordingly. The setup
procedure is just that easy.
Batch Setup
Having configured a reader, you may duplicate the settings of the reader
(master) to the others. You can do this by producing a set of custom setup
labels derived from the master reader and scanning these labels by other
readers. When selecting Dump command in setup mode, the settings of the
reader will dump to the screen as one or several ASCII string(s). Printing the
string(s) into bar code labels in Code 39, you get the batch setup labels to
duplicate other readers.
