District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 1. Description B F The district heating tanks are storage tanks that are heated via the district heating grid. The flow tem- peratures required for this should be at least 60 °C. For district heating grids that do not operate all year round there is the option of electric heating with the FSN-E type series. The device is distinguished by the following characteristics: • Double enamelled steel plate internal boiler with protective anode. • High quality heat insulation made of polyurethane foam (CFC-free); boiler foam-fitted directly into the outer casing. Benefit: low standby energy consumption. • Stove enamelled, powder coated outer casing of steel plate, white. • Precisely displaying capillary tube thermometer. • Domestic water heated via a coil heat exchanger. Benefit: good heat layering within the boiler, good thermal transfer. • Zero-loss heat circuit regulation via an electrically actuated zone valve (1N ~ 230 V; 3 Watt) with short heating up times (patent pending). This is why an electrical power supply at 1N ~ 230 V is necessary for the connection of a storage tank from the FSN or FSN-E type series. • Elegant base to cover the connections, which is fitted with a service flap for better accessibility.

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 2. Hot Water B F Hot water consumption in the household is dependent upon the number of people, the sanitary fittings in the flat or house, the insulation, the plumbing and the individual habits of the user. The following table provides a few standard values for consumption. The temperature of the cold water required for mixing for the stated hot water temperature was as- sumed to be 12 °C. 3. Save Energy B F Our district heating storage tanks are real energy savers due to the high quality, ecologically friendly polyurethane foam insulation and the built-in temperature regulation system. Low storage water temperatures turn out to be particularly economical. That is why the level of the continuously variable temperature adjustment should only be set in accordance with the actual hot water requirements. That helps save energy and reduces lime-scale build up within the container. 4. Standby Energy Consumption B F If a water heater is heated up and no water is released for a long time after the heating process an, albeit gradual but continuous, cooling of the stored water via the surface of the device will be the result. Depending upon the construction type of the device, the size of the device, strength and quality of the container insulation, the intensity and speed of this cooling off will vary. This behaviour is measured at a stored water temperature of 65 °C over a period of 24 hours and the amount of energy required to keep the water at a constant temperature throughout this period is measured in kWh. Standby energy consumption measured in accordance with EN 12897: max. 0,9 kW/24h Hot water requirements in litres Required stored water capacity in litres at 37 °C at 55 °C at 80 °C at 60 °C Bath 150 - 180 55 - 66 78 - 94 Shower 30 - 50 11 - 18 16 - 26 Hand-wash 3 - 6 1 - 2 1.6 - 3.1 Hair-wash (short hair) 6 - 12 3 - 4.4 4.2 - 6.3 Hair-wash (long hair) 10 - 18 3.7 - 6.6 5.2 - 9.4 Bidet utilisation 12 - 15 4.4 - 5.5 6.3 - 7.8 Washing dishes for 2 people per day 16 10 14 for 3 people per day 20 12.5 18 for 4 people per day 24 15.2 21.5 Housework per bucket of cleaning water 10 6.3 9

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 5. Operating B F All operating equipment required for the operation of the FSN and FSN-E district heating storage tanks (temperature adjustment knob) and monitoring elements (operating light and thermometer) is gathered together on an control panel at the front of the device. In the case of the FSN, the temperature regulator and operating light are omitted. This device is not designed to be operated by people (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental capacities or who lack the requisite experience and/or knowledge, unless they are super- vised by a person responsible for their safety or have been instructed in the operation of the device by the same. Children should be supervised in order to ensure that they do not play with the device. 6. Temperature Setting FSN-E B F As an aid to setting the temperature, the temperature regulator knob has 4 main positions, being: Position: ➊ Frost protection for the storage tank (up to 30 °C) ➋ c. 40 °C, lukewarm storage water ➌ c. 65 °C, moderately hot storage water To avoid accidental scaling with water that is too hot, this posi- tion is recommended. The device works in a particularly eco- nomical manner at this setting. The thermal losses are low and the formation of boiler scale is largely avoided. Low standby energy consumption ➍ c. 85 °C, hot storage water Caution: Turning the adjuster knob as far as possible to the left does not set the device heating at zero, nor does it switch it off. When operating with daytime electricity the temperature regulator should not be set any higher than "Pos ➌" (c. 65 °C). Due to the temperature regulator hysteresis (±7°K) and potential radiation losses (cooling of the plumb- ing) the temperatures quoted are subject to a tolerance of ± 10°K. FSN 110 E

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 7. Summer- Winter Switch B F Once the service flap has been opened the switch is freely accessible. Here is where one can choose, whether the the storage tank should be powered by electricity (sum- mertime operation) or by the district heating grid (wintertime operation). 8. Thermometer B F There is a remote thermometer built into the front panel of the device for monitoring the stored water temperature. The display value depends upon the temperature regulator setting. "Pos. ➍" and after completion of the warm up process is the maximum display value reached (only in the case of electrical heating). For other regulator positions the pointer deflection is reduced accordingly. Remote thermometer

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 9. Adjustment Range Limitation FSN-E F To avoid accidental scalding by water that is too hot, the adjustment range of the temperature regulator can be limited to a max. of 65 °C. The device must be electrically isolated from the grid at all poles. Set to "Pos ➊". After open- ing the connection space, remove the stop pin in that is located in a drilling in the back of the control panel and reinsert it into the hole with the long shaft in front. 10. Operating Requirements B F The storage tanks must be used exclusively in accordance with the conditions set out on the rating panel. The maximum input pressure should correspond to the nominal pressure stated on the rating panel. In addition to the legally recognised national guidelines and standards, the connection condi- tions of the local electricity and water works as well as those set out in the installation and operating instructions must be complied with. The room in which the device is operated must be frost-free. The installation of the device must be carried out in a place where one might reasonably expect it to be, i.e. the device must be easily accessible in case of servicing, repairs or in case it needs to be replaced. The hot water storage tank must only be connected to rigid/fixed plumbing. In the case of hard water, we recommend the installation of a commercial de-calci- fication device or alternatively we recommend the use of an lime-scale protection storage tank from Austria Email AG and/or that you run the system at a maximum operating temperature of c.65 °C (set at "Pos ➌"). In order to prevent the ingress of foreign bodies, the entire device must be professionally flushed out in accordance with ÖNORM H5195-1 prior to carrying out the initial installation of the district heating stor- age tank. In order to prevent the possibility of interference of the district heating storage tank. the electrical devices used within the household must be ÖVE tested and must comply with EMV guideline 89/336/EWG. To avoid damage, it is necessary to construct the connection of the storage tank with a detachable con- nection (union). Leaks from the storage tank as a result of an improper connection and damage and consequential dam- age caused by this are excluded from the guarantee and product liability.

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 11. Installation and Safety Information F a) Important Installation Information! Do not bend the safety component sus- pension hooks due to the possibility of breakage. A failure to take notice of this warning could result in personal injury due to a falling device! b) Every device is delivered with a wall rail for the insertion of the upper securing hook, which is attached to the wall with two screws and supports the weight of the device. Two additional screw fittings (as per the dimensions sketch with the device dimensions) must be provided for affixing the lower tab of the device to the wall; this only serves to secure the device against the wall and to prevent lateral movement. Water heaters of a suspended construction type must not be installed horizontally. c) The securing hooks and therefore the suspension dimension A can be reposi- tioned by moving the storage tank rear wall screws into other holes of the hook in 50 mm spac- ings. Caution: Only fixing hooks supplied by AE AG may be used! d) During the installation due attention must be paid to device dimension sketches and any informa- tion signs that may have been supplied together with the device. e) Caution: The weight of the water heater including the weight of the water content (the nominal capacity) must be taken into consideration for the selection of an installation point and/or the preparation a device mounting surface sufficient to meet the technical loading and installation strength requirements. Special Suspension: see narrow wall and/or ceiling mounting. f) If a water heater is fitted with covers (cladding) in narrow small spaces or in suspended ceilings and the like, it is crucial to ensure that the connection side of the device (water connections, electrical connection room and/or boiler room) remains freely accessible and that heat accumulation is not generated. There must be a free space of 500 mm for the dismantling of the heating flange. A space of at least 50 mm must be left above the device so that it can be hooked into the wall rails. g) In terms of the choice and/or sequence of the installation material used on the system side (be careful in the case of mixed installation) due consideration must be given to potential electro- chemical processes (contact corrosion e.g. copper-steel) in accordance with good engineering practice. We recommend the installation of insulating screw fixings. h) If there is particularly aggressive water, which demands a special solution on the installation side, the potential necessity for special constructed versions of the storage tank should be investigated (please direct any related questions to our agents or directly to our company). i) The device is equipped with a safety temperature limiting device, which prevents any further heat- ing of the devices beyond a water temperature of 110 °C. (EN 60335 -2-21; ÖVE-EW41 , Part 2 (500) /1971). Therefore the choice of connection com- ponents (connection pipes, circulation, safety valve combinations etc.) should be made in such a way that the connection components could withstand temperatures of 110 °C in case of any potential malfunction of the temperature regulator and that possible consequential damages are avoided. j) The assembly and installation may only be carried out by authorised tradesmen. k) There is a risk of scalding under certain operating conditions.

District Heating System Connection F The regulation of the heating-up temperature via the remote heating circuit is done electrically and the setting is fixed in the factory. An additionally installed temperature limiting device prevents overly high back-flow temperatures. Changes to the settings may only be carried out following consultation with the manufacturer. Due to the high permissible pressure differential in the primary heating circuit it is not necessary to regulate this pressure for the district heat storage tanks, however it must not exceed 1.2 bar. In order to avoid malfunctions and the ingress of foreign bodies a dirt trap should be installed in the direction of flow in the district heating supply pipe. In all cases the connection of the district heat stor- age tank should be before the first radiator. RADIATOR FSN 110 Stair well Flat

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 17. Domestic Hot Water Side Connection (pressure resistant) F In cases in which unsuitable or non-functional storage tank connection fittings are used as well as in cases in which the stated operating pressure is exceeded, we shall refuse to guarantee the water heater in any way whatsoever. All water heaters that display a nominal pressure of 6 bar (ATO or kp/cm2) on their rating plates are pressure resistant storage tanks and can be connected pressure-tight at a mains pressure of up to 5.5 bar (ATO). If the system pressure is higher then a pressure reduction valve must be installed in the cold water input pipe. The water connection must only take place via a certified membrane safety valve or a membrane safety valve combination - connection fitting for pressure resistant storage tanks. A safety valve combination consists of shut-off, back-flow, drainage and safety valves with expand- able water outlet and is installed between the storage tank's cold water inlet pipe (blue) and cold water inlet in an appropriate sequence. As a general rule the following is to be noted: In order to ensure the faultless functioning of the connection fittings these may only be installed in frost-protected spaces. The outlet of the safety valve must be open and observable and/or the outlet pipe from the drip tray (water overflow funnel) must not terminate outside so that neither frost nor blockages due to dirt and the like can result in a malfunction. Care must be taken to ensure that the drip container is not blocked. Furthermore, care must be taken to ensure that the outlet pipe of the safety valve is installed with a constant incline. No shut-off valve or any other restriction may be installed between the safety valve and the storage tank cold water inlet. The safety valve must be configured for a trigger pressure that is lower than the nominal pressure (6 bar) of the storage tank. Before the final connection of the storage tank the cold water inflow pipe must be flushed through. Once the water has been connected and the storage tank has been filled without air bubbles, the function of the connection fittings must be checked. a) In order to avoid a blockage of the safety valve's venting mechanism as a result of lime-scale depositing, the safety valve's venting mechanism should be operated from time to time dur- ing the operation of the system. It should be observed whether or not the valve re-closes after releasing the venting mechanism and whether or not the queued water is drained off completely Drainage Valve Safety Valve Back-flow Valve (Return-flow Inhibitor) Test Valve poss. District heating tank FSN and FSN-E via the funnel or outlet pipe. b) In the case where safety valves are installed before water heaters, a check should be made as to whether the safety valve reacts when the water heater is heated up. This can be verified by way of water egress out of the outlet pipe. Implementation: Operator, Installation Company Interval: every 6 months Servicing and repair: If no water escapes when the water heater is heated up or if the safety valve is permanently leaky, then an attempt should be made to unblock the valve or remove any foreign bodies (e.g. lime-scale particles) on the seal component by operating the venting mechanism several times. If this fails then an overhaul by an installation company should be arranged. In case of damage to the valve seat or seal then the safety valve will have to be completely replaced. Implementation: Installation Company Interval: annually To check the back-flow valve the shut-off valve is closed and no water should escape via the open test valve. The operation of the storage tank takes place via the hot water valve of the control device (mixing unit). Therefore the storage tank is permanently under pressure. In order to protect the inner boiler from overpressure during heating-up. the excess water that arises is drained off via the safety valve. To avoid overpressure damage to the water heater it is crucial to replace calcified safety valves. In the event of a drop in pipeline pressure, the back-flow valve prevents the back-flow of the hot water into the cold water pipe system thereby protecting the boiler from being heated up in the absence of water. The storage tank can be separated from the cold water supply grid by the shut-off valve on the water side and therefore also in terms of pressure and can be drained off via the drainage valve if necessary.

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 18. Electrical Connection FSN-E F 18.1 General Instructions a) As a matter of principle, the electrical connectivity is to be carried out as per the circuit diagram pasted in to the connection space of the storage tank. b) Ensure the correct connection voltage! c) An all-pole isolation switch with a contact opening width of 3 mm is to be provided in the electri- cal supply line. Automatic circuit breakers are also permissible as isolators. d) The connection cable must be inserted into the connection space of the storage tank and be prevented from being pulled out and twisted by a strain relief mechanism. For register storage heaters a second cable insert is provided for the charging pump control cable. e) For the installation and intrusive interventions into the device the hot water storage tank must first be isolated completely (all poles) and on every side from the power supply in compliance with EN 50110 (ÖVE, TAEV). Before carrying out any further works the system must be secured against the accidental recon- nection of the power supply (remove the fuses, trigger the mains circuit breaker). 18.2 Connection Diagram FSN-E L,N .....Power supply grid Connection voltage ~230V

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 19. Initial Commissioning B F Before switching on the electrical power the storage tank must be filled with water. During the heating up process the expansion water generated in the inner boiler must drip out of the safety valve in the case of a pressure resistant connection and out of the mixer unit in the case of a non-pressure connection. Caution: The initial heating up process must be carried out and monitored by a licensed pro- fessional and The hot water drainage pipe as well as parts of the safety fittings can get hot. After heating up the configured temperature and the actual temperature of the extracted water should by about the same. 20. Decommissioning, Draining B F If a water heater is put out of action or not used for a lengthy period then it must be drained and completely isolated (all-poles) from the power supply. Switch off the supply line switches or automatic circuit breakers. In rooms permanently subject to frost damage the water heater must be drained before the start of the cold weather season if the device will be out of action for several days and is not being operating in frost protection mode (see Point 6). The draining of the domestic water is carried out once the shut-off valve has been closed in the cold water feed via the drainage valve of the safety valve combination whilst all hot water valves of the connected operating mechanisms are simultaneously open. It is also possible to drain the system via the safety valve in the excess water funnel (drip tray). In order to do so the safety valve knob is turned to the "Test" position. Careful: hot water can escape when draining. Furthermore when there is a risk of frost, attention must also be paid to the fact that not only the water in the water heater and in the hot water plumbing can freeze but also in the all cold water pipe- work to the operating mechanisms and to the device itself. It is therefore useful to drain off all water carrying fittings and plumbing (including the heating circuit = smooth pipe heat exchanger) right back to the frost protected part of the household water system (household water connection). If the storage system is brought back into service then it is crucial to ensure that it is filled with water and that bubble free water emerges at the hot water valves.

20 • Id.Nr.: 229224-9

District heating tank FSN and FSN-E 21. Inspection, Servicing, Maintenance B F a) During heating-up the excess water must be seen to drip out of the safety valve out- let (in the case of non-pressure connections the excess water will drip out of the mixer unit valve). When fully heated-up (c.85 °C) the excess water volume is c. 3.5% of the storage tank volume. The function of the safety valve should be checked regularly. When lifting or turning the safety valve testing knob to the "Test" position the water must flow unhindered out of the body of the safety valve and into the drainage funnel. Caution: The cold water inlet plumbing and parts of the storage tank connection fittings can become hot as a result. If the water heater is not heated up or if no hot water is extracted then there should be no water dripping out of the safety valve. If this is the case then either the water feed pressure is too high (install via 5.5 bar pressure reduction valve) or the safety valve is defective. Please called the installation expert immediately! b) In the case of extremely hard water then the removal of the boiler scale accumulating in the stor- age tank's inner boiler as well as the freely deposited lime-scale must be removed by a profes- sional after one or two years of operation. The cleaning process is carried out by removing the flange opening of the heating flange and cleaning the storage tank. When re-installing the heating flange it is crucial to use a new seal. The specially enamelled inner container of the water heater must not come into contact with boiler scale solvent - do not use the de-calcifying pump. Remove lime-scale with wood and either remove it with a vacuum cleaner or wipe out with a cloth. Afterwards the device must be thoroughly rinsed (in accordance with ÖNORM H5195-1) and the heating up process is to be observed as per initial commissioning. c) In order to make substantiated claims under the guarantee provided by AE AG the in-built pro- tective anode requires an inspection by the expert at maximum intervals of 2 years of operation. The protective current resister below the heating unit fixing screw must not be damaged or removed during servicing. d) Do not use any scouring agents to clean the device and do not use any paint thinners (such as Nitro, trichloride etc.) It is best to clean it using a damp cloth with a few drops of a liquid household cleaning agent. 22. Malfunctions B F If the storage tank water does not heat up please check whether the circuit breaker (automatic circuit breaker) in the distribution cabinet or else the melting fuses have been tripped and check the setting of the temperature regulator. In any other case do not attempt to rectify the fault yourself. Either turn to a licensed installer or to our Customer Service Department for assistance. Professionals often only need to make a few quick adjustments to return the storage tank to full working order. Please provide the type designation and serial number of your storage tank when reporting the issue, which you will find on the rating plate.

and consequential damages, shall be excluded. Prorated labour time for repairs as well as the costs of restoring the original condition of the unit must be paid in full by the buyer. In accordance with this warranty declaration, the warranty shall apply only to repair or replacement of the unit. The provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Sale and Delivery of AE AG shall, unless amended by these Terms and Conditions of Warranty, remain fully in place. 11. Services that are not performed within the scope of these Terms and Conditions of Warranty shall be charged. 12. No claims under warranty shall be considered by AE AG unless full payment for the device has been made to AE AG and unless the claimant has fully satisfied all obligations arising to him vis-à-vis the seller. 13. The enamelled internal boiler for water heaters is warranted for the specified period from the delivery date provided all warranty terms described under Points 1 to 12 are observed with in full. If the warranty terms have not been met, the legal warranty requirements of the respective country from which the appliance was shipped shall prevail. 14. With regard to the assertion of claims pursuant to the Austrian Product Liability Act it must be noted: Potential claims under the title of product liability relating to the regulation of damages due to a defective product (e.g. a human’s body is injured, his health is damaged or any corporeal property differing from the product is damaged) shall only be justified if all the prescribed measures and requirements for flawless and normal operation of the unit have been fulfilled. These include e.g. the mandatory and documented anode replacement, the connection to the correct operating voltage, any damage due to improper use must be avoided, etc. These standards are based on the assumption that if all the regulations (standards, assembly and operating instructions, general guidelines, etc.) are observed, the defect in the unit or product causal for occurrence of the secondary damage would not have occurred. It is further imperative that all the documentation necessary for handling of a claim, such as e.g. the type and fabrication number of the unit, the vendor’s invoice and the invoice of the licensed electrician or installation firm, as well as a description of the malfunction be provided, as well as the defective unit itself for examination in the lab (absolutely necessary, as the unit will be investigated by an expert and the cause of the defect analysed). In order to exclude any possibility of mistaken identity of the unit during transportation, the unit must be labelled with a clearly legible label (ideally with the end customer’s address and signature). Appropriate photographic documentation of the extent of damage, the installation (cold water inflow, hot water outflow, heating inflow and outflow, safety fittings, expansion vessel if applicable), as well as the defective part of the tank is required. AE AG further expressly reserves the right to demand the submission of documentation and units or unit components by the buyer for the purpose of clarification. The damaged party’s full burden of proof that the damage was caused by the product of AE AG is prerequisite for the payment of any benefits under the title of product liability. Claims for damages pursuant to the Austrian Product Liability Act are moreo- ver justified only for any amount exceeding the amount of 500 euros (deductible amount). Until all the facts and circumstances as well as the problem causally underlying the defect have been ascertained, any possible fault on the part of AE AG shall be ruled out explicitly. Any non-observance of the operating and assembly instructions as well as the relevant standards shall be deemed negligence and shall result in an exclusion of any liability for damages. The figures and data are not binding and may be amended without notice in the interest of technical improvement. Misprints and technical changes reserved.
