Corolla is designed and built to achieve 5 stars in

the rigorous 2013 Euro NCAP safety tests. With its comprehensive range of Active and Passive Safety features, Corolla is among the safest cars in the segment. (TBC, NMSC to localise). 7 SRS Airbags (NMSC to localise) Driver and front passenger airbags, dual chamber side airbags, a driver’s knee airbag as well as curtain shield airbags protect driver and passengers (on selected grades). – Reduced impact on driver and passengers in the event of an accident. Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) Front seats are designed to help minimise the risk of neck whiplash injuries in low-speed rear end collisions Seatback frames are built to yield in a controlled way in rear-end impact to reduce the forward acceleration of occupants’ torsos. This helps reduce the differential motion of head and torso, which is the cause of whiplash. – Reduces the severity of occupant injury in low speed rear end impact, which in 40% of cases could require more than a year for recovery. Impact Absorbing Body Structure Absorbs, distributes and disperses impact load from frontal collisions and minimises deformation of the passenger area in the event of a side collision. – Driver, passenger and pedestrian protection. Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) Seatbelts Fitted to the front seats with pre-tensioners and force-limiters. – Holds occupants firmly and securely in their seats to optimise airbag performance. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA)

and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) work together for maximum effectiveness. – Added stability in emergency braking situations. Emergency Brake Signal (EBS) The Emergency Brake Signal (EBS) automatically flashes the rear stop lights in an emergency braking situation, alerting following traffic. All of the following conditions need to be present for the system to engage: Vehicle speed above 55km/h Brake pedal depressed Emergency braking detected from the vehicle deceleration. The Emergency Brake Signal (EBS) disengages when: Brake pedal released Emergency braking no longer detected from the vehicle deceleration Hazard warning switch pressed. – Research shows that this warning mechanism helps to reduce rear-end collisions by cutting the following drivers’ reaction times by 50%. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC) Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC) automatically adjusts engine output and brake force of each wheel to correct loss of control through understeer or oversteer caused by skidding or an emergency situation Vehicles fitted with VSC also feature a VSC OFF button. – Helps driver maintain control of the vehicle in adverse conditions. Safety Feature Function Benefit Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Available in countries where TPMS is mandatory; NMSC to localise) This advanced system employs a valve and transmitter installed in each wheel that send signals to a receiver when tyre pressure is low. In turn, the receiver communicates with the vehicle’s ECU and a warning signal appears on the combination meter. – Helps the driver instantly identify low tyre pressure and alerts the driver to take remedial action – Safety and peace of mind.

Transmissions Feature Function Benefit Multidrive S Multidrive S is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) featuring a manual override, sequential 7-step mode Multidrive S replaces the 6MMT on 1.6 Valvematic and the 4-speed A/T on 1.6 VVT-i, offering: – Smooth driving with no compromise on CO2 and fuel consumption – Better acceleration from standstill compared to manual transmission models – Wider range of gear ratios compared to 4A/T . MultiMode Available with 1.4 D-4D models, MultiMode is a manual transmission with a fully automatic shift mode and no clutch pedal. MultiMode is not an automatic transmission, however customers may not fully appreciate this fact at the buying stage. Therefore, a proper explanation and test drive is systematically required to ensure MultiMode meets customer expectations Selecting E, M or R and releasing the brake allows the car to ‘creep’ like a full automatic In E mode, the car makes automatic shifts at engine speeds that will maximise fuel economy Selecting ES will delay changing up to higher rpm, giving a more sporty style of drive With M selected the driver chooses their own up and down shift speeds, though the ECU protects the driveline from possible damage caused by excessive rpm. – Simpler driving; no clutch pedal, no stalling – Manual transmission with the ease of an automatic – Enhanced fuel economy in E mode – The paddle shift delivers fingertip control and a much more sporty feel.

Perfect Driving Position

1. Ask the customer to take the driver’s seat and emphasise easy ingress, and ample knee and head room. 2. Invite the customer to find their perfect driving position; the front seats have an enhanced horizontal and downward sliding range. 3. Lower hip point and steering wheel angle reduced by 2° further support the driver. 4. Demonstrate optimal ergonomics; the driver’s area is clearly defined and all controls are within easy reach. Best in Class Cabin Space 1. Ask the customer to sit in the rear seats so they can experience Corolla’s best in class passenger space. The front to rear couple distance is 959mm – the biggest in the class. 2. Demonstrate ample knee room, shoulder room and headroom thanks to increased couple distance. 3. Large windows and low window line ensure excellent visibility. 4. There’s generous foot room thanks to the virtually flat floor so 3 passengers can sit in comfort. 5. Ample boot capacity of 452l means there’s enough space to fit 2 large suitcases without folding the rear seats. A luggage hook adds convenience, and so does the new handle on the inside of the boot lid. Static Must Do Demos

Quality that you can Touch and See

1. As you open the door, draw the customer’s attention to the solid feel of the door handle. 2. Inside the cabin, turn on the ignition and note the pleasant ambience created by the consistent clear blue illumination on meters, switches, audio and air conditioning panel. 3. Touch the soft finish materials across the upper and lower instrument panel and the front centre armrest. All doors feature fabric clad armrests. Exciting Multimedia Touchscreen is the preferred and easiest way of accessing information; it clears the dashboard from too many buttons. 1. Just point and touch. 2. Run through the functions, including the rear view camera (requires ignition ON). 3. Finally, explain to the customer that at Handover you will set up Toyota Touch 2™ with them. Static Must Do Demos

Multidrive S Perfect Balance

A) Automatic mode: Multidrive S works best at low and mid-throttle input. Demonstrate smooth acceleration between 50 and 70km/h. 1. At full throttle it takes 3 seconds but with relatively high engine noise. Explain that this is what a customer may do if coming from another type of transmission. Therefore you should demonstrate: At half throttle: 4 seconds (50-70km/h) with little noise or between 40 and 80km/h: 6 seconds compared to 5 seconds. 2. The sweet spot for performance is between 3000 and 4000 rpm and at moderate throttle operation (30-50%). The benefit of going beyond that is negligible in terms of performance and brings considerably higher NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness). B) Manual mode: In manual mode, change gears by shifting up or down (+ or -). Let the customer experience the smoothness of changing gears, even down from 7th to 4th. Dynamic Must Do Demos D-4D Coasting D-4D engines are designed to coast without throttle input at motorways speeds in 6th gear. 1. From 100-120km/h identify the motorway exit around 500 metres away, and release the throttle while keeping the car in 6th gear; this allows for 0 (zero) fuel consumption – as shown by the instant fuel indicator. 2. On downhill motorway sections this demo can be done over a longer distance, further enhancing its wow-effect. Make sure you identify the best place on your test drive route to maximise this demo. 3. Do not put the car in neutral as this would run the engine at idle and consume fuel - this would be visible in the instant fuel consumption. 4. In-gear, the engine remains in fuel-cut and consumption is 0 (zero). 5. Should engine rpm start to drop below 1200-1100 rpm then shift down one gear to continue coasting without risk to exit the fuel-cut and thus to remain at 0 (zero) fuel consumption.

Be light on the throttle and follow the instructions of

the Gear Shift Indicator (GSI). 1. Show how more or less throttle activates/deactivates the GSI. 2. Demonstrate the 1.4 D-4D 6M/T’s surprising torque at 50km/h in 4th gear. Reach 60km/h and change up to 5th. Feel the ample torque to maintain cruising speed. Don’t use too much throttle as the GSI would tell you to shift down. 3. Demonstrate smooth acceleration between 90 and 120km/h in 5th gear when joining a motorway. At 40-50% throttle, show low instant fuel consumption under acceleration in 6th. Point out low NVH. 4. On faster roads within urban areas but limited to 70km/h, show how usable 6th gear is by changing up at 60km/h. The car will cruise smoothly. Dynamic Must Do Demos Seamless Stop & Start 1. The car needs to be warmed up and preferably with AC off. Demonstrate how smooth the stop is and how quick and seamless the re-start. 2. Quick restart: let the Stop & Start System switch off the engine, wait, get customer’s attention, clutch - immediately in gear and depart. 3. Seamless re-start: Balance a credit-card on the gear lever, press the clutch to re-start, and show how card does not even move. Parking Made Simple To demonstrate Simple Intelligent Parking Assist (SIPA) select a quiet, safe street where parallel parking is allowed. A good time to do this during the test drive is just before you invite your customer to take the driver’s seat. 1. As you drive down the street looking for a parking spot, turn Simple Intelligent Parking Assist on. Its sonar will automatically detect suitable parking spaces. Explain to the customer that this system does not rely on cameras, but uses sonars and sensors instead. 2. When a suitable target parking spot is agreed, the system will inform you when to stop. As you stop Corolla and shift to reverse, highlight the fact that the system assists parking in very tight spots. All you need is the length of New Corolla +90cm, as opposed to the length of the vehicle +2m on other systems. 3. Explain that while New Corolla begins reversing, the system automatically steers, while you operate the brakes and accelerator. Visual and sound warnings assist you in shifting between reverse and drive. 4. The assistance is complete when the vehicle is parked parallel to curb.
