3.1 IP Videoconferencing
3.1.1 Point-to-Point Conferencing
After registering with H.323 gatekeeper (GK) and SIP servers, the TP3106-70 can call remote
sites using their IP addresses, numbers, or uniform resource identifiers (URIs).
3.1.2 Multipoint Conferencing
The TP3106-70 enables H.323- and SIP-compliant videoconferencing devices to join the
same conference.
By working in conjunction with an MCU, the TP3106-70 can initiate a multipoint conference
by calling geographically distributed H.323 and SIP videoconferencing devices. Participants
in the same conference can view and hear each other; they are able to receive mixed
conference audio as well.
3.1.3 Dual-Stream Conferencing
While viewing site videos, a user can connect a computer to either of the multi-functional
sockets to share with remote sites the computer desktop (including slides, Word documents,
flash files, and HD images and movies).
The TP3106-70 supports plug and share. Once a computer is connected through a
multi-functional socket, the computer desktop is automatically shared with remote sites
without any additional operations.
3.1.4 Authentication Conferencing

3.1.5 Conference Joining
Initiating a Conference
Without advanced scheduling or assistance from the administrator, a user can initiate a
conference from the TP3106-70 using any of the following methods:
Contacts list
Keypad
Conference history
The conference initiated by any user can be a point-to-point or multipoint conference.
Joining a Conference
The TP3106-70 can be scheduled to join a conference on the SMC. When the schedule is
made, a user can find the conference entry on the touch panel. If the conference is ongoing,
the user can join it at the touch of a button.
To join an authentication conference, a user asks the administrator for the conference ID and
password and joins the conference from the touch panel home screen.
Answering a Call
The TP3106-70 joins a conference after answering a call from another site. A user can
configure the TP3106-70 to answer incoming calls automatically or to prompt for a manual
response.
If the TP3106-70 is configured to answer incoming calls automatically, it joins a
conference after a call comes in.
If the TP3106-70 is configured to prompt for a manual response, a user can choose to
answer or reject calls.

Requesting the Floor
If a conference has the chair site, non-chair sites can request the floor from the chair site.
Once a site has the floor, other sites in the conference can view and hear that site.
Showing and Hiding Captions
If a conference supports T.140, a user can operate the touch panel to show or hide captions on
the local HD displays.
Enabling and Disabling Voice Activation
The TP3106-70 provides two voice activation modes: switching by speaker and switching by
site. A user can therefore broadcast either of the following based on the user requirements:
The site generating the highest volume, with voice activation switching by site
The screen generating the highest volume, with voice activation switching by speaker
The generated volume must exceed the voice activation threshold for a site or screen to be broadcast.
Requesting and Releasing Chair Control Rights
In a multipoint conference where the TP3106-70 is used, two roles exist: the chair site and the
non-chair site. The conference chair site has more conference controls available than other
sites. If no chair site has been selected to chair the conference, any site can request chair
control rights. Non-chair sites can only view others sites, request the floor, show/hide captions,
and request chair control rights. A conference can have only one chair site at a time. Chair
control rights are automatically released when the chair site exits the conference.

Giving the Floor
During a conference, the chair site can give the floor to a site. Then all sites have muted
microphones except for the chair site and the site having the floor. When a site has the floor,
all sites are forced to view that site.
Broadcasting a Site
The chair site can force all the other sites in the conference to view a single site. While a site
is being broadcast, all sites have unmuted microphones.
Muting and Unmuting Microphones
A user can use the touch panel to mute and unmute all local microphones, or press the
microphone mute buttons at the conference tabletop to mute and unmute individual
microphones. During a multipoint conference, the chair site can mute and unmute the
microphones of any site.
Viewing Sites in Turn
Viewing sites in turn enables all participating sites to be displayed one by one for a
user-defined interval on the HD displays at the chair site.
Disconnecting a Site
The chair site can disconnect any site from the conference. After a site is disconnected, its
icon remains in the site list on the conference control screen. The chair site can recall the site
into the conference.
Calling a Site
The chair site can call an absent site into the conference.
Deleting a Site
The chair site can delete participating sites from the conference. After a site is deleted, its icon
is no longer displayed on the conference control screen. To recall the site into the conference,
the chair site needs to add it once again.
Adding a Site
During a multipoint conference, the chair site can add sites to the conference using the
contacts list or keypad from the touch panel.
Extending a Conference
The duration of a scheduled conference is user-defined, while that of an instant conference is
120 minutes by default. The chair site can extend the conference when required.

Exiting or Ending a Conference
When a participating site exits a conference, the conference ends if it is a point-to-point
conference or proceeds if it is a multipoint conference. Only the chair site is able to end a
conference.
3.1.7 Conference Management
3.1.7.1 Contacts List
From the TP3106-70 Telepresence System Manager, the administrator can import, export, and
clear the contacts list. The contacts list contains information about sites and groups. The touch
panel automatically syncs the contacts list with the telepresence host. A user can select sites
and groups from the touch panel to quickly initiate a conference, eliminating the manual entry
of site numbers.
3.1.7.2 Conference History
From the touch panel, a user can view all conferences that have been initiated or attended
using the TP3106-70. A user can select any conference entry in the history to initiate the
conference again.
3.1.7.3 Network Recording
If network recording is enabled, multipoint conferences the TP3106-70 joins can be
automatically recorded from the beginning. The recordings can be broadcast live or saved for
future viewing. The chair site can stop, pause, or resume the recording at any time.
3.2 Video Features
The TP3106-70 adopts advanced video technology. Used in every processing stage from
video capture through video encoding and decoding to video display, the technology enables
the TP3106-70 to deliver ultra-HD video with nearly zero latency and unprecedented
smoothness.
Smooth and Sharp Video
The TP3106-70 is compliant with H.264 HP, H.264 BP, and H.264 SVC for transmitting and
receiving video and presentations. It selects the optimal video protocol based on the available
bandwidth and executes transcoding to present the best possible videos to users.
HD Dual Stream
The TP3106-70 is the first telepresence solution to introduce end-to-end 1080p60 technology.
With the support for H.239 and the Binary Floor Control Protocol (BFCP), the TP3106-70 can
transmit two independent channels of 1080p video streams.
Continuous Presence
The TP3106-70 supports a group of continuous presence. When initiating a multipoint
conference, a user can set the continuous presence layout. During a multipoint conference, a
user can edit continuous presence, including the layout and video feeds. Continuous presence
comes in multiple display layouts, with a maximum of 16 panes. The video feeds of the

continuous presence panes can be from any site except the audio-only sites. A user can easily
specify the number of panes and video feeds.
3.3 Audio Features
The TP3106-70 provides cinema-level sound localization, and enables users to easily
distinguish the location of a remote site speaker, making conversations go smoother. This
feature is implemented with the combination of the following:
AAC-LD that supports a maximum sampling rate of 48 kHz and CD quality audio
AEC, AGC, and ANS technologies
Built-in multi-channel speakers
Universal Transcoding
The TP3106-70 allows inconsistency between encoding and decoding protocols. If the
encoding and decoding protocols are within the following range, the TP3106-70 is able to
perform universal transcoding to offer maximum interoperability with devices of other models
or by other suppliers:
G.711A
G.711U
G.722
G.728
AAC-LD mono
AAC-LD dual-channel
AAC-LD three-channel
Transcoding for AAC-LD dual-channel and AAC-LD three-channel is available only for
Huawei videoconferencing devices.
Lip Sync
During a video conference, audio and video streams are encoded and transmitted separately.
Therefore, the audio and video received by remote sites may occasionally be out of sync,
resulting in a poor videoconferencing experience. The TP3106-70 can solve the lip sync issue
with appropriate settings.
Sound Localization
The TP3106-70 adopts sound localization technology. It uses six microphones to pick up
audio, and processes three audio channels to deliver precise sound localization. This
technology allows users to easily identify the location of a remote speaker.
Voice Activation
The TP3106-70 provides two voice activation modes: switching by speaker and switching by
site. A user can therefore broadcast either of the following based on the user requirements:
The site generating the highest volume, with voice activation switching by site
The screen generating the highest volume, with voice activation switching by speaker

Voice activation does not affect the performance of sound localization.
3.4 IPv6 Features
The TP3106-70 supports IPv6 as well as IPv4. Therefore, a user can perform the following
operations in IPv6 mode:
Access the Telepresence System Manager.
Register the TP3106-70 with GK and SIP servers.
Initiate conferences, control conferences, and manage services.
Because IPv6 is the latest version of IP and is intended to replace IPv4, support for IPv6 will
surely provide great convenience for users.
3.5 QoS Features
Packet loss may occur during data transmission over an IP network, degrading conference
quality. The TP3106-70 uses SEC 3.0 technology and SVC to automatically adjust the quality
of service (QoS) and select the correct audiovisual processing policy based on transmission
performance. The TP3106-70 greatly outperforms other telepresence solutions that do not
incorporate SEC technology. For example, a TP3106-70 conference can be held smoothly
even with a packet loss rate of up to 15%.
3.6 Bandwidth Features
The TP3106-70 uses H.264 HP. Compared with BP, HP has B slices, weighted prediction,
field encoding, and other technology that significantly improves video compression ratio. By
integrating HP, Huawei's proprietary VME technology, and technology that enhances pre- and
post-processing of video, noise reduction, contrast, and edges, the TP3106-70 can deliver
crisper, smoother, and more vivid video on the same bandwidth.
3.7 Security Features
The TP3106-70 takes the following measures to ensure data security and stable conferencing:
Anti-attack protocols and ports
Web security
Sensitive data protection
System management and maintenance security
Working with Huawei's MCUs and SMC, the TP3106-70 supports end-to-end signaling and

During login authentication, uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to
transmit the user name and password to the system server.
Allows users with the highest level privileges to manage user accounts. These users have
the ability to enable or disable other accounts. All account passwords can be changed.
Sensitive Data Protection
Touch panel and web account passwords are stored in ciphertext and transmitted only
after they are encrypted using AES-128.
The wireless router is configured to use the Wi-Fi protected access II pre-shared key
(WPA2-PSK) as the authentication mode during the system deployment.
When the TP3106-70 registers with a GK or SIP server or a conference control password
is saved, data can be transmitted in HTTPS mode.
No proprietary encryption algorithms are used.
During fault location, the TP3106-70 filters or renders personal data exported from the
system anonymous. The logs and configuration files exported from the system do not
contain any sensitive data.
Listening ports are used to protect the system from unauthorized listening and will not be
used to collect voice information for debugging or fault location.
System Management and Maintenance Security
Management security: Except for devices whose IP addresses are independently set,
users cannot directly log in to any management ports on TP3106-70 devices.
Software packages (including patches) can be released only after they are scanned by at
least one type of mainstream antivirus software and no alarm is generated. For any
exception, an explanation is provided.
All user activities and operations on the Telepresence System Manager are recorded in
logs.

Telepresence series products are deployed at all sites. MCUs are deployed based on
actual networks and capacity requirements at different levels.
Depending on the physical size of each site and its environment, telepresence units with
two rows of conference tables (such as the TP3218) are deployed at large sites,
three-screen telepresence units (such as the TP3106-70 and TP3106-70) are deployed at
small to medium sites, and RP series telepresence units are deployed at small sites and
executive offices.
Based on customers' needs, recording devices can be deployed at important sites.
This solution has the following features, advantages, and benefits:
Ultra-HD video in nearly true-to-life dimensions, sound localization, and face-to-face
communication are available at all conference sites.
IP data connections can be used to access networks with ensured high line reliability.
The ViewPoint 8660 and ViewPoint 8650 MCUs, which feature the highest security and
reliability in the industry, or the VP9000 series MCUs, which support universal
transcoding, are used to host conferences. Hierarchical and role-based management of
MCUs is supported in a distributed manner.
The MCUs can be used in large-scale networks. One ViewPoint 8660 MCU supports 170
three-screen or 512 single-screen telepresence sites. Multiple MCUs can be cascaded in
multi-channel mode to support larger-scale networks.
Single-screen systems can access the network, bringing the telepresence experience to
small conference rooms and executive offices.
Recording and on-demand playback functions are available.

Figure 5-2 Videoconferencing solution with converged telepresence, HD, and SD sites
Over this network:
A hierarchical structure is adopted. At upper-level sites, telepresence products are deployed
depending on the site size to ensure quality. To cut investment costs at lower-level sites, a
hybrid of HD and SD videoconferencing products can be deployed based on actual
conditions.
This solution has the following features, advantages, and benefits:
Ultra-HD video in nearly true-to-life dimensions, sound localization, and face-to-face
communication are available at telepresence sites.
The telepresence sites can communicate with H.320 and H.323 sites. The terminals over
the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), next generation network (NGN), public switched
telephone network (PSTN), and 3G mobile phones can also access a telepresence
conference.
MCUs at different levels can be cascaded to create a larger network. IP and 4E1 data
connections can be used to access the larger network. Hierarchical and role-based
management is also supported.
Various applications, including video wall, continuous presence, and conference
recording are supported.

The network is built based on existing networks: Only upper-level sites are reconstructed.
Most existing devices can be retained at lower-level sites to protect investment costs.
Due to the large number of lower-level sites that support 1080p, 720p, and 4CIF,
investment in HD displays, cameras, and other devices can be reduced. This design
reduces the total upfront investment while ensuring a high-level telepresence experience.
