Empty or replace the filters as necessary. 3. Rinse, air dry, and reinsert the foam/filter diffuser each week. 4. Wipe the inside and outside of the vacuum with a household cleaning agent after each use. PROPER STORAGE Store the vacuum in a dry place when not in use. TROUBLESHOOTING 1. If the vacuum will not operate, check the following: a. The power supply cord at the wall outlet b. The power supply cord at the vacuum c. That the switch is in the “on” position and functioning properly 2. If the pigtail (18” power cord) is getting warm, check to see that the extension cor does not exceed a length of 50 feet at 16 gauge or 100 feet at 14 gauge. Longer cords will overheat and damage the vacuum. 3. If the exhaust that comes out of the bottom of the vacuum is warmer than usual, check and clean all four filters. 4. If the power switch fails, check the circuit breaker. If that is not the problem, call a ProTeam Warranty Station. 5. If loss of suction occurs, check the following: a. QUEST Quality Environmental Services & Technologies, Inc. SUMMARY REPORT November 1, 2006 Vacuum Cleaner Testing for Soil Removal Effectiveness and Airborne Particle Emissions Quality Environmental Services & Technologies, Inc. (QUEST) is pleased to submit this summary report detailing the results of recent vacuum cleaner soil removal effectiveness and filtration efficiency testing. This research was conducted for the purchasing department of a major University. Since the University must avoid the potential appearance of endorsements, the data is provided by generic heading. Vacuum cleaner types tested are listed as “Backpack A, Backpack B,” etc. QUEST specializes in indoor air quality and particulate analysis. Our research and development capabilities include assessing the risks associated with environmental contaminants (biological, chemical, and particulate) as well as investigating and recommending remediation options for these contaminants. For this study, QUEST has tested a total of thirteen vacuum cleaner units. The University and a janitorial supplier provided the vacuum cleaners, filters and tools. Twelve vacuum cleaner units were tested for both soil removal effectiveness and filtration efficiency, plus one for soil removal effectiveness only. QUEST used the floor-tools, adapters and filter-bags provided with each vacuum cleaner. In the designing of testing procedures, the following test methods were reviewed and sections included as appropriate. Standard Laboratory Test Method for Evaluation of Carpet-Embedded Dirt Removal Effectiveness of Household Vacuum Cleaners (ASTM Method F 608-89); Standard Test Method for Measuring Air Performance Characteristics of Vacuum Cleaners (ASTM Method F 558-88); Specification for Air Performance Measurement Plenum Chamber for Vacuum Cleaners (ASTM Method F 431-87); Specification for Test Carpets and Pads for Vacuum Cleaner Testing (ASTM Method F 655-89); and ServiceMaster Vacuum Cleaner Testing Protocol. Vacuum Cleaner Testing for Soil Removal Effectiveness and Airborne Particle Emissions QUEST, Inc. The purpose of the requested testing was to develop and utilize testing protocols that were simple, reproducible, and accurate. Since no ASTM methods specifically address industrial type vacuum cleaners and their particulate emissions, we designed and utilized the following testing procedures: SOIL REMOVAL EFFECTIVENESS PROTOCOL Supplies: Carpet test-section: six foot by six foot, industrial short-nap Test Soil: 80% silica sand, 20% unscented, commercial grade talcum powder Filter Bag Fill: Louisiana-Pacific Nature Guard Cellulose Insulation (100% Recycled) Test Method 1) Pre-weigh filter bag. 2) Deep extract/clean test carpet. 3) Evenly distribute 100 grams of test soil onto the carpet. 4) Work test soil into the carpet with a carpet rake. 5) Vacuum the test carpet for 60 seconds (entire carpet, both directions at an even rate). 6) Remove and weigh filter bag. 7) After three repetitions, fill filter-bags with 50 grams of Filter Bag Fill and conduct a minimum of three additional test runs. FILTRATION EFFICIENCY TESTING PROTOCOL Supplies: Carpet Test-Section: six foot by six foot, industrial short-nap Test Soil: 80% silica sand, 20% unscented, commercial grade talcum powder Test Chamber: Class 10 clean room, eight-foot by eight-foot by eight-foot, positively pressured HEPA filtered air Particle Counter: PMS Lasair Laser Particle Counter set to measure 0.2 to 5.0 micron particles. Test Method 1) Deep extract/clean test carpet. 2) Evenly distribute 100 grams of test soil onto the carpet. QUEST, Inc. Vacuum Cleaner Testing for Soil Removal Effectiveness and Airborne Particle Emissions • • • • • • • 3) Work test soil into the carpet with a carpet rake. 4) With particle counter collecting data in one minute increments, vacuum carpet for five (5) minutes at a rate of two (2) seconds per stroke (stroke = six feet end to end) then back on the same path. Vacuum entire carpet, both directions at an even rate. 5) Discontinue vacuuming, exit test chamber and continue to collect particle counts for an additional three minutes. These procedures were followed for each vacuum cleaner tested, as well as one run before and one run after the use of the test soils. The remainder of this report summarizes the results of this testing. P.O.Box 7385 Boise, ID 83707, USA Phone: 800.541.1456 | Fax: 208.377.3014 | www.pro-team.com K-12 EDUCATION AN INTRODUCTION TO GREEN CLEANING Every year over 6 BILLION pounds of chemicals, most made from non-renewable petroleum-based resources, are consumed by the cleaning industry. Over 500 MILLION pounds of janitorial equipment are discarded - enough to fill 10,000 garbage trucks. We use 4.5 BILLION pounds of janitorial paper, the majority made from virgin tree pulp. Clearly cleaning’s impact on the environment is tremendous. Asthma rates in school age children are skyrocketing. More than 14 million school days are lost to illnesses including allergies and other respiratory problems. Mold, indoor air quality and other cleaning issues have been scientifically linked to student health and falling test scores. The need for a Green Cleaning program is real and is a challenge facing school administrators and maintenance professionals across the country. Green Cleaning can be simply defined as cleaning to protect health without harming the environment. ProTeam vacuums can help you address these issues. Combining the power to pick up more soil than typical vacuums with our unique Four Level® Filtration System, our vacuums can significantly improve the indoor air quality in your school. The ergonomic design and ease of use will help you clean more effectively and efficiently, making better use of your scarce labor resources, and allowing you to allocate more time to other projects. Your ProTeam distributor has the facts about the impact of cleaning on student health and performance as well as information and support you need to evaluate a Cleaning For Health® program in your school. CLEANING FOR HEALTH™ SINCE 1987 K-12 EDUCATION ProTeam Solutions Green Advantages Performance – ProTeam vacuums are exclusively designed to remove and hold more soil from carpets while containing 99.9% of harmful airborne particulates 1 micron and larger. Versatility – Whether you are cleaning hard surfaces, carpets, above ground or on stairs, ProTeam vacuums save time and money. Use one machine with our versatile tool kits to accomplish more in less time, while conserving energy and improving indoor air quality. Ergonomics – Studies by Ohio State University and Battelle Memorial Institute determined that backpack vacuum cleaners allow workers to clean more than twice the area in half the time versus traditional vacuums. ProTeam’s lightweight vacuums distribute 90% of the weight on the hips, reducing stress and fatigue. Improved Air Quality – Using ProTeam products and training programs gives cleaning professionals the ability to positively impact the health and safety of all building occupants. K-12 EDUCATION “It’s an incredible piece of equipment. It’s 50% faster than an upright. Before it took us 16 minutes to clean a classroom. Now it takes us eight.” Eddie Giron - Training Manager Clark County School District Las Vegas, NV “When you’re talking about going under desks and pushing an upright versus using a Super CoachVac, there’s no comparison...” Forrest Mulkey Lukfata Elementary School Broken Bow, OK Printed on recycled paper TailVac® Our lightest vacuum, yet it is powerful enough for tough jobs, and perfect for quick cleaning or detail work. Over 500 MILLION pounds of janitorial equipment are discarded - enough to fill 10,000 garbage trucks. We use 4.5 BILLION pounds of janitorial paper, the majority made from virgin tree pulp. Cleaning’s impact on the environment is tremendous. Adult onset asthma rates are increasing. Mold, indoor air quality, and other cleaning issues have been scientifically linked to the health and performance of both students and staff. The need for a Green Cleaning program is real and is a challenge facing campus administrators and maintenance professionals across the country. Green Cleaning can be simply defined as cleaning to protect health without harming the environment. Prospective students and major contributors are aware of these issues. In fact many colleges and universities have found that environmental stewardship and green programs can be powerful marketing and recruiting advantages. ProTeam vacuums can help you address these issues. Combining the power to pick up more soil than typical vacuums with our unique Four Level® Filtration System, our vacuums can significantly improve the indoor air quality throughout your campus. Your ProTeam distributor has the facts about the impact of cleaning on student health and performance. They also have the information and support you need to evaluate a Cleaning For Health® program on your campus.
