Welcome to energy made easy! Smart meters take the pressure off you by submitting your readings

automatically, so you don’t have to worry about receiving estimated bills. What’s more, your new In-Home Display (IHD) allows you to track your usage in real time, allowing you to pinpoint where you can save. This empowers you to start saving on your bills, as you can see which appliances are using the most energy and make small changes to cut costs. 2 Your In-Home Display This is your guide to your new smart setup. Your In-Home Display will be an easy way to track your usage. This guide will tell you how to power up your IHD and show you the different screens you have available. Figure 1. Your IHD

Your IHD is powered through the mains, but you can also use batteries for short periods of time in case

the power has gone off. To get started with your IHD, press the power button on the front of the device just below the screen. You may see this screen momentarily, but once your IHD is powered up you’ll see your home screen. To power your smart meter through the mains, plug the power cable into any 230 V wall socket. Then, plug the power cable into the rear of your IHD as shown in Figure 2. To power your smart meter with batteries, slide off the rear of the IHD case. Insert 3x AAA batteries and your smart meter will power up. Slide the rear of the case back on when you’re done. Figure 2. Mains powered IHD Figure 3. Battery powered IHD

Main controls and Home screen

Your home screen will show you your energy consumption for the day. You have 3 main control buttons on your IHD, as shown in Figure 5: Home, which will bring you back to the home screen; Settings, which will take you to the settings menu; and Back, which will take you back to the previous page you were on. Getting a deeper view of your energy

To take a more detailed look at your consumption, touch the electricity area on the home screen (if you’re dual fuel you can do this with your gas too). This will allow you to see your real time usage, as well as your total usage for the last day, week and month. 2.4 Changing the settings on your IHD You can navigate to the settings menu by pressing the central button (three bars) on your home screen. From here you can change the display units for your energy, so you can view your usage in either pounds or kWh. You can also adjust your brightness and standby settings, as well as view some information about your IHD device. Touch the electricity area of the home screen, as shown by the pink circle, to see more detail about your electricity consumption. You can see your live usage here, or choose to view your historic usage over the last day, week or month using the menu on the right hand side of the screen.

Settings menu page 1. Here you can set up

Wifi, adjust display unit, brightness and standby setting and see information about your IHD. Pressing the down arrow will take you to settings menu page 2. Settings menu page 2. This has information about your meter and some help. Press the up arrow to return to settings menu page 1. You can change your display units between money in £ and energy in kilowatt hours (kWh). This example shows money selected. Adjust how long your IHD stays powered up before it enters standby mode.

Setting up your Wifi connection

By selecting Wifi from the settings menu, you can connect your IHD to your Wifi. After touching Wifi, you’ll be greeted with the Wifi setup screen. Enter in your network’s SSID and password. Wait a few moments for your IHD to connect to your Wifi. Congrats, your Wifi is all set up!

From time to time you may receive messages through your IHD – just touch the envelope symbol at the

top of the home screen to view them. 3 Frequently Asked Questions Will a smart meter save me money? The meters themselves don’t save you money – what they do is give you all the information you need to start cutting back on your energy spending. By understanding how much and when you use energy you’ll be able to make changes to your behaviour and start making savings. We can also help you understand how to save the most energy using your smart meter data. What do I do if there is an issue with my meter or in-home display? If your IHD isn’t working, make sure it is properly connected to a power supply or has fresh batteries inserted. If you’ve still got any issues, call our team on 0333 405 5555 and we’ll help you fix it. What if I’ve lost supply? If you’ve lost electricity, call 105 to get in touch with your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), who maintain the power lines. If you’re having issues with your gas, call the emergencies line on 0800 111 999.
