7 Transport and storage 7.1 Transport G Transport the solenoid valve carefully. G Avoid knocks and vibration. 7.2 Storage G Store the solenoid valve dry in its original packaging. G Store the solenoid valve only with the connections blocked off . G Avoid UV rays and direct sun irradiation. G Observe the maximum storage temperature (see chapter 5 "Technical data"). 8 Functional description The GEMÜ 205 directly controlled 2/2-way solenoid valve has a plastic valve body. The fl ow direction is stipulated and indicated by an arrow on the valve body. 8.1 Valve closed Valve closed When the valve is closed the medium flows into the valve body and presses onto the piston. The valve remains closed. Observe the permissible operating pressure (see chapter 5 "Technical data"). CAUTION Damage to the solenoid / destruction of the solenoid! ® Danger of burning out of the solenoid if operating pressures are too high! CAUTION Valve does not open! ® The valve cannot be opened electromagnetically if operating pressures are too high. 8.2 Valve open Valve open When voltage is applied the solenoid in the valve actuator is activated and lifts the armature. This opens the valve outlet.

G The solenoid valve may only be installed in aligned pipes in order to avoid stresses in the valve body. 10.1 Installation with solvent cement sockets CAUTION Damage to the valve body! ® Only use solvent cement suitable for the valve body. The solvent cement is not included in the scope of delivery! G Apply solvent cement on the inside of the valve body and on the outside of the piping as specifi ed by the solvent cement manufacturer. G Connect the valve body to the piping. 10.2 Installation with solvent cement spigots CAUTION Damage to the valve body! ® Only use solvent cement suitable for the valve body. The solvent cement is not included in the scope of delivery! 1 2 1 2 Installation with solvent cement spigots G Apply solvent cement on the outside of the valve body spigots 1 and on the inside of the piping connector 2 as specifi ed by the solvent cement manufacturer. G Connect the valve body to the piping. 10.3 Installation with threaded sockets The thread sealant is not included in the scope of delivery! G Screw the threaded connections into the piping in accordance with valid norms. G Use appropriate thread sealant.

10.4 Installation with union ends CAUTION Damage to the solenoid coil or bush! ® If the solenoid coil is used as a lever, the solenoid coil and bush could be destroyed. G Use only the spanner fl ats provided to tighten the solenoid valve into the piping. G Unscrew union nut 1 from valve body 2. G Reinsert O-ring 3 if necessary. 1 2 3 Removing the union nut CAUTION Damage to the valve actuator or valve body! ® Adhere to technical welding standards! CAUTION Damage to the valve body! ® Only use solvent cement suitable for the valve body. The solvent cement is not included in the scope of delivery! G Push the union nut 1 over the piping 4. Connect the insert 5 with the piping 4 by cementing / welding. G Screw the union nut 1 to the valve body 2 again. G Connect the other side of the valve body 2 to the piping 4, too. 5 1 4 2 3 Installation in the piping 10.5 Electrical connection DANGER Danger from electric shock! ® There is a danger of injury or death (if operating voltage is higher than safe extra low voltage). G Electrical connection only to be carried out by an expert. G Disconnect the cable from the power supply before making the electrical connection. G Connect the protective earth conductor. 1 2 3 4 Electrical connection G Insert the cable through the locking screw 1, the pressure ring 2, the seal 3 and the housing of the connector plug 4.

205 1 2 Connection to the terminal block Different connections are available depending on connector plug type and voltage. Item Connection 1 Supply voltage (+) 2 Supply voltage Protective earth conductor G Connect the cable to the relevant terminals on the terminal block. G Push the terminal block into the housing of the connector plug (acc. to DIN EN 175301-803, previously DIN 43650) until it audibly clicks in position. G Ensure that the cable is not caught. G Tighten the locking screw on the connector plug. 1 2 3 4 Connecting the connector plug G Push the connector plug 2 and the gasket 3 onto the valve actuator 4. G Tighten the fi xing screw 1 with a torque of approx. 0.6 Nm. If the torque is too high the thread may be stripped. 11 Commissioning CAUTION Danger from medium flowing out! G Before commissioning make sure that there is no danger from medium fl owing out. G Before commissioning check the tightness of the media connections. CAUTION Valve does not open! ® The valve cannot be opened electromagnetically if operating pressures are too high. CAUTION Danger from foreign matter! G If the plant is new and after repairs, rinse the piping system with the valves fully open. G Make sure that the operating voltage corresponds with the permissible valve voltage. G Make sure that the unit is installed properly. G Test the function of the solenoid valve. G Check the tightness of the media connections and the solenoid valve itself.

11.1 Optical position indicator Valve closed Valve open Optical position indicator 12 Operation 12.1 Normal operation During normal operation there is no need for adjustments at the valve. 12.2 Emergency operation via manual override The solenoid valve is equipped with a manual override 1 and an optical position indicator 2. Only operate the manual override in case of malfunction (ensure power is off = currentless)! 1 2 Manual override Open the valve via manual override: G Turn the lever upwards. ® The indicator of the optical position indicator moves away from the valve actuator. Manual override open Close the valve via manual override (ensure power is off = currentless): G Turn the leaver downwards. ® The indicator of the optical position indicator moves towards the valve actuator. Manual override closed 13 Servicing CAUTION Damage to the valve! G Only the spare parts stated in chapter 13.3 "Spare parts" may be replaced. G The valve may only be repaired by GEMÜ. Preventive maintenance / cleaning is recommended in consideration of the operating conditions and in the event of noticeable changes in switching times or noise arising during switching.

G Pay attention to adhered residual material and gas diff usion from penetrated media. Parts Disposal Valve bodies, valve covers in accordance with material identifi cation Screws, armatures, bushes, compression springs as metallic core scrap O-rings, diaphragms, sealing and plastic parts as domestic waste type commercial waste Solenoid coil as electrical scrap 15 Returns G Clean the solenoid valve. G Request a goods return declaration form from GEMÜ. G Returns must be made with a completed declaration of return. If not completed, GEMÜ cannot process credits or repair work but will dispose of the goods at the operator's expense. Note for returns: Legal regulations for the protection of the environment and personnel require that the completed and signed goods return declaration is included with the dispatch documents. Returned goods can be processed only when this declaration is completed.
