WIRELESS LAN SETUP
SHARP
20
For MX-2640/3140/3640N series, two connection methods are available for Wireless LAN:-
Infrastructure Mode:
Infrastructure mode allows for wireless communication between two client devices via a host (access
point). The MFP connects to an access point to obtain an IP address.
Simultaneous usage of Infrastructure mode and wired connection is prohibited.
Access Point Mode:
Access Point (Ad-Hoc) mode allows for direct wireless communication between two client devices.
Wireless devices acquire an IP address from the MFP directly, allowing Print/Scan features to be available
from mobile devices.
Simultaneous usage of Access Point mode and wired connection is allowed however, mobile devices will
not be able to connect to the intranet/internet when connected to the MFP Wireless LAN.

EEPROM HANDLING PROCEDURE
35
WARNING:
Never execute Sim16 to clear U2 trouble WITHOUT investigating the root cause of U2 trouble by using
the following procedure:-
1. Ensure to follow ESD procedures (using an earth strap) while handling the PWBs as EEPROM data
may become corrupted due to static charge.
2. Never insert the EEPROM to the socket in reverse.
3. U2 trouble occurs 100% if the machine is turned on after inserting the EEPROM in reverse.
Execution of Sim16 to clear this U2 trouble will lead to corrupted data which cannot be fully
recovered in the field.
4. Make sure that PCU, MFP & SCAN EEPROMs are not switched - label each EEPROM for
identification purposes before removing from the PWB.
5. Please handle EEPROMs with care to prevent bending or damage of pins.
They will be broken if bent several of times. (This type of trouble has been reported many times.).
6. Do not use foamed styrol etc. for packing during the transportation of EEPROM.
Foamed styrol easily generates static charge. In some cases, EEPROM is damaged just by placing it
into foamed styrol.
7. Make sure to use black sponge (anti-static) for packing during transportation. The black sponge is
also used to pack EEPROM provided as service parts.
CAUTION:
Please note that counter data and machine adjustment values are recorded in the EEPROM. If the data in
EEPROM is corrupted, it is impossible to recover. In such cases, the only solution will be to initialise the
EEPROM therefore, counter data and adjustment values will be reset to “0” or “default”. Once all the
adjustment values are set to default, it will be necessary to readjust all the adjustment values (ie. perform
a complete run-up procedure).
Caution to prevent damage on EEPROM:
In case any trouble other than U2 occurs to the machine and the PWB has been replaced (eg. remove and
reinstall the EEPROM onto the replacement PWB for example) and U2 trouble occurs right after power
on, never execute Sim16 under this condition.
As previously mentioned, the data in EEPROM will be corrupted after Sim 16 execution therefore:-
In such cases, EEPROM may have been inserted in reverse or MFP and PCU EEPROM may have
been switched.
Turn off the machine without execution of Sim16, install the correct EEPROM into the proper
position (on the PWB), power on the machine again and then execute Sim16. This way, U2 trouble
should be cleared.
Sim16 should only be executed to clear U2 trouble if it occurred without performing any repair or
maintenance as such.
As previously mentioned, execution of Sim16 won’t clear artificially-generated U2 errors. Instead, it may
actually damage the EEPROM, HDD storage and backup data.

4. Check that E7-03 trouble does not occur, and the UI icon which indicates rebuilding of the
mirroring kit is displayed.
5. Execute SIM62-20 to confirm that the HDD status is displayed as HDD1/HDD2=OK/OK.
6. Power OFF the MFP device (Primary power switch) and set DIPSW1 to OFF.
7. Power ON the MFP Device
8. Clear the FAX/SCANNER image memory by executing SIM66-10:-
This memory must be cleared for all models equipped with FAX/I-FAX and Network Scanner in order to
keep compliance between the HDD data and the image related memory.
9. Install the E-Manual Data onto the HDD using SIM49-03.
10. Install Watermark data onto the HDD using SIM49-05:-
U2-60 trouble will be displayed when no Watermark data is present . After installing the
Watermark data, reboot the MFP and cancel U2-60 trouble by executing SIM16.
11. Import the storage data backed up in Step 1.
Use SIM56-02 or device cloning/storage backup function to import the Address book, Image
Send registration data and User authentication data etc.
Import the Document Filing data, User font and macro data - (The JOB LOG data can be backed
up but cannot be imported).
Caution:
• When replacing the HDD for the mirroring kit, ensure to use a new HDD unit.
• If an HDD that has been previously used for a mirroring kit is used to replace a HDD, the
operations and the data cannot be assured and E7-A5 trouble may occur.
• If an HDD that has been previously used for a mirroring kit is installed, the original data may be
erased.
• When removing the HDD after installing the mirroring kit, be sure to remove both HDD's
together.
• If only one HDD is removed and then reinstalled, the data of both HDD's may
not be identical, causing an error.
• When removing the HDD for maintenance reasons only, disconnect the HDD SATA connector of
the MFP PWB first, and then perform the required maintenance. With this procedure, both
HDD's are disconnected from the machine.

Is it possible to Tandem
MX-2640/3640N series with another
MX colour device?
Tandem operation is only supported with
MX-2640/3140/3640N series only.
Is it possible to retain the Destination
Address (Image Send Mode), once the
current Scan operation is complete?
To enable this function, change,
SIM55-03 SW30-3 from 0 (default) to 1.
Once enabled, go to System Settings-Image Send
Settings-Operation Settings menu and enable the “Hold
Address for a while after scanning is completed” option
for the relevant Image Send mode.
TROUBLE CODES
ALL
C4-00
To prevent static discharge (change of bias voltages),
upgrade the PCU firmware to 04.04.G2.00 (or higher).
Also check the operation of the Drum Phase sensors
and the clutches that change the position of the
Primary Transfer Belt . The belt may not be locking
securely into the colour or BW position.
PG Section 51, item 20 (x2). PCLC-0373FCZ1
U2-00
The latest Running Change firmware now supports
U2-00 cancellation therefore:-
1. Upgrade the MFP Firmware to 03.00.A2 (or higher).
2. Clear U2-00 trouble by executing SIM16.
MX-EB11
E7-47 trouble
To support MX-2640/3140/3640N series, the ACU
firmware version must be upgraded to 01.00.A2.
Use SIM49-10 to perform the ACRE firmware upgrade.
GENERAL / MISC
ALL
Error K, C, M, Y in Sim44-26 and/or
machine hangs in Sim46-74 when
trying to print the calibration sheet.
Check/replace CF card on the MFP PWB.
MFP fails to boot (or keeps rebooting)
Please ensure the CF Card is installed correctly.
Make sure it is seated all the way and "clicks" into
place.
No Output Tray Is Allowed error
message
The above message can be displayed if the machine
power is turned OFF just before the lift up of Tray 3 or
4 is completed.
To work around this issue, open & close Tray 3 or 4
when the message appears or upgrade the PCU
firmware to 04.01.G1 (or higher).
MX-DE13
MX-DE14
The MXDE13 or MXDE14 desk unit is
not recognised correctly (1 or 2
drawers missing from the
configuration) after installation.
To support future models, the Transfer Motor SB
installed on the MXDE13 & MXDE14 desk unit has been
changed since June 2013 production therefore, when
the current desk unit is installed onto an earlier
machine for example, both PCU & Desk firmware must
be upgraded to the latest version to ensure
compatibility.
PAPER FEED & TRANSPORT
ALL
Machine indicates Paper Out
condition (especially after recovering
from Pre Heat or Auto Shut Off
modes), even though paper is still
available in the cassette.
When experiencing the above phenomenon, upgrade
the PCU firmware to Special ROM version 04.02.G2.a0
ALL
APPD1_N Duplex jams or Corner of
paper folding.
To increase the operating tolerance in duplex mode if
paper curl is present:-
1. Adjust the fusing temperature (SIM43-1) to reduce
paper curl.
2. Replace the ADU Gate Plate (PG 41-67) with a
modified type LPLTP8560FCZ1 so that the Delivery
Gate is open to maximum position.
3. For a temporary workaround, remove the ADU right
upper cabinet and fix a paper clip onto the ADU
Base Plate to open the Right Delivery Gate to
Maximum position.
PRINT CONTROLLER
ALL
The MFP may intermittently hang
(stops printing) with Rendering
displayed within the job status, only
when printing from a Windows
environment.
Update the MFP firmware to 05.00.A2 (or higher).
Also, there is a Microsoft Hotfix available that may
address this issue:-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2996207/en-us
In addition, disabling mDNS within Network Settings-
Services menu and WSD under Network Settings-Print
Port Settings has also resolved this issue in some cases.
Unable to print using AirPrint
Upgrade the MFP Firmware to 03.00.A2 (or higher) and
ensure AirPrint is enabled:- Settings-Network Settings-
Printer Port Settings-AirPrint Settings
After upgrading from Windows 8 to
8.1 or 2012 to 2012R2, “Features”
information on the printer properties
is not displayed.
This is caused by the OS upgrade.
If you change the Printer Name or change/reset the
Port properties of the queue, the Features information
will return.
Using PC-Fax Preview function on
Windows 8.1 or 2012R2, the preview
image and sending result is incorrect
When using PC-Fax driver on Windows 8.1 or 2012R2,
set the FAX resolution setting to 200x200dpi,
400x400dpi or 600x600dpi.
Unable to install OSX10.8 Drivers -

Downloaded From" setting to Mac App Store and
identified developers or Anywhere.
Printing multiple page reports from
different paper trays as separate files,
is it possible to stop the MFP device
from bypassing jobs held when a
paper out condition occurs, to prevent
an out of sequence output/report?
Enable (check) the following setting change on the MFP
device:-
System Settings - Operation Settings - Disabling of
Bypass Printing
IMAGE SEND MODE
ALL
When using the Address Book
Forward function from Settings-Data
Backup menu via the Operation Panel,
the Address Book does not appear on
the target machine.
The Address Book Forward function is only supported
with models from the same model series:-
Examples:-
MX2640/3140/3640N to MX2640/3140/3640N = OK.
MX2640/3140/3640N to MXM365/465/565N = NG.
Please Wait message appears when
scanning multiple page jobs when
using the document feeder.
To prevent lines occurring due to optical contamination
when copying or scanning, shading correction is now
performed as default in-between each scan job (hence
Please Wait appears and the start button is greyed out
for a very short period).
However, you can disable this function (so that shading
correction is only performed at the beginning of the
Image Send or Copy mode) by changing following
setting
Sim 53-09 - Change Item B
(SIDEA SCAN POSITION ET_JOB) from 1 to 0.
How to scan to Office 365 email from
Sharp MFP?
Check the following settings under Network Settings ->
Service Settings -> SMTP
Primary Server: smtp.office365.com
Port Number: 587
Reply Email Address: ****@onmicrosoft.com
SSL: ON
SMTP Authentication: ON
User Name should be same as the Reply Email Address.
Note: IMAP is not supported on the current Sharp
MFPs therefore only SMTP protocol can be used.
The correct port for SMTP with SSL enabled is 587 for
Office 365 email.
Scan to Email fails when using
hotmail.com or outlook.com
As Microsoft will not accept any email that is not
RFC5322 compliant, the sending email must have a
name and valid email address in the header therefore,
when configuring SMTP settings on the MFP, make sure
to add a Name & Email Address in the Default Send Set
menu (under System Settings\Image Send
Settings\Scan Settings).
Scan resolution is locked at 300dpi
When BK Letter Emphasis is ticked in the destination
settings of the Address Book or in the Scan Settings
under System Settings\Image Send Settings, the scan
resolution on the operation panel will be locked at
300dpi and cannot be changed.
Similar to the situation above, when using the PDF
compression kit and the scan file type is selected as
Compact PDF, the scan resolution will also be locked at
300dpi.
IMAGE SEND MODE (CONT’D)
MX-FX11
Unable to send Fax as the machine
indicates extension phone off hook
when using PABX.
On some PABX, the line voltage may be low enough for
the machine to think that an extension phone is off
hook - this is usually indicated with the telephone
symbol appearing on the display .
Change Fax Soft Switch 114 , Bit 8 from 1 to 0 to
disable this detection.
DOCUMENT FILING / PUBLIC FOLDER
ALL
Unable to browse the NAS/Public
Folder, even though the Public
Folder/NAS settings are enabled
within the Network Settings menu.
The NBT/WINS Port (Security setting) must be enabled
to use NAS/Public storage. For security measures, this
port setting is disabled as default.
Can you use Domain User Accounts to
browse the NAS/Public Folders?
NAS/Public Folders support local accounts only
(programmed on MFP)
EMAIL STATUS ALERTS
ALL
Is it possible to configure the MFP to
send only a single email alert for each
alert condition?
To enable single email alert notification for Customer
Email address only, configure the following soft switch:-
SIM 55-03 SW28-3 (change from 0 to 1).
Note: For dealer email address, multiple email
notifications will still be received.
Configuring Toner Low Email alerts to
be sent at a specific toner remaining
level
If you wish to receive toner low emails at a specific
toner remaining level, configure the MFP as follows:-
1. Enter Simulation 26-69.
2. Change Item F (Toner E-Mail Alert) from 1 to 0.
3. Set Item B (Remaining Toner Level) to the specified
level when the Email alert is sent:-
Examples: 0= 5%, 1=10%, 2=15%, 3=20%, 4 = 25%
(Default), 5=30%.
Note: Depending on Model, the details within
Simulation 26-69 may differ therefore please refer to
the Service Manual for the relevant model series.
